...so is it a bad "Sin City" clone ?

Visually, it looks just a Waking Life. That was an awesome movie.

Absolutely not.

It's directed by the same person, using the same technique. I didn't much care for Waking Life myself, but I've got very high hopes indeed for A Scanner Darkly. The original novel by Philip K. Dick is absolutely brilliant, and I can't wait to see what they've done with it.

A Waking Life had really interesting ideas about the difference between being awake and asleep,but it was kind of a slow movie, way more intellectual, kind of like a documentary. If this new movie is based on a Philip K. Dick story, I'm more excited about it, because of course he wrote the story that Blade Runner was based on. I'm gonna have to check out this book:)

I didn't quite like the rotoscoping in Waking Life (though I didn't like much of anything in that movie). Too wavery. But it looks much more controlled in A Scanner Darkly.

And this is nothing like Sin City

not to change the subject of this thread, but i kinda liked sin city... after i turned down my critic nerve i was able to enjoy the flick.

How the fuck did you get "Sin City clone" from this?

i want to see the story but dont understand the thinking behind this 'animation' technique.

it's real film thats been turned into a cartoon...

why ?

.. cant see the function behind the animation in this one...looks like they decided that it should be this way without any particular reason...I mean in Sin City the animation had a function...

I think it's because people like to try new things. It might be great, or it might give you a raging headache. Who knows?

...havnt seen it so maybe I wait with the conclusion... too.....

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I really like Rory Cochrane and Robert Downey Jr. is just amazing.

If you take the live action and make it animated, you still, in theory, retain the depth of the performances, but there's more you can do with it (effects-wise) since it's animated

...its also less "real"... more like an cartoon..which can make it harder for an audience to feel with the actors...

However, MINORITY REPORT, TOTAL RECALL, and PAYCHECK where also based on his writing, and as a fan they where terrible adaptations. BLADE RUNNER is an exception.

I don't understand the Sin City conection but it looks like a cool movie.

I hated Minority Report. I'm not sure why, but I only watched it twice and then sold it. Total Recall was entertaining, but Paul Veerhoven is not the best person in the world for deep stories, although Starship Troopers was a really fun movie. I think Ridley Scott adds a real depth to the movies he produces, and that's probably why Blade Runner stands out so much. It's one of my all time favorite sci-fi flicks.
Also, I was madly in love with Rutger Hauer.
