Bullshit.
I just drove all the way out to Circuit City with one goal in mind: to get The Devil's Rejects soundtrack. It has some great tunes (Midnight Rider, Freebird, Rock On, Seed of Memory), and I finally decided to get off my ass and go get it.
I get up to the checkout counter. This bitch won't let me buy the damn CD, because it's parental advisory, and I'm not 17. "But I turn 17 in 10 days!", I explain to her. She won't let me get it. If only she knew the kind of gruesome shit I watch on a daily basis...like a few "f" words are gonna effect me... ...I oughta chop her up with an axe. Sorry for the rant, but the restrictions on freedom of speech are getting fucking rediculous. |
I know how you feel. I didn't know they had it on cd's though? I bought an ICP and Twiztid cd with my gf when I was 16....but then again people think I'm like 25, and I had all my spikes and makeup on... They didn't question me then, but I tried buying Killzone for the PS2 there and they wouldn't let me. Imbeciles!!

They've got the little stickers on CDs (bottom left corner). http://www.mishmashmagazine.com/imag...jectscdbig.jpg |
Damn you Tipper...
I can't believe how much they've starting actually following that crap, same with videogames. Last year my grandma picked up a Mortal Kombat game for my brother's birthday and they friggin' carded her! Insane... |
Ive never actually tried to buy a "Parental Advisory" CD, but I have figured out what stores will/wont let me buy R rated movies. Are there any other places you could buy it? Try them if there is.
Blockbuster wont let me off with anything, but Zellers and CD Plus dont seem to care. It's all a matter of experimentation. |

@Despare They carded my mom when I went to but Kiss: Psycho Circus for the Dreamcast last year. It's stupid. |
Yah I'll probably try Best Buy.
What I just don't get was if they let it slide, they'll make an extra $15 and a customer will be happy. Instead, a customer walks out of the store empty handed. We both lose. |

Best Buy blows though. |

Best Buy I've never had a problem with. They've never carded me, and I like their selection. They're a little farther away, however. |
Blockbuster here is insane. They change ratings. They make them up themselves, so even if a movie isnt supposed to be R, I cant rent it. Oddly enough it does work both ways....but not often in my favour.
|
Wow I have never had a problem with getting cared any where and I look like i'm 12. But then again if they did card me I could always just pull out my ID, and walk out with the item anyways. :D
|
Here ya go. It's probably cheaper than it was at the store anyways...
http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Devils-Rejec...QQcmdZViewItem If that doesnt work, just go to ebay & search 'devils rejects soundtrack'. There were plenty of them listed. In regards to getting carded, it's pretty stupid. I remember when I was 17 & RATM's Evil Empire came out. I went to buy it at Best Buy & the bitch wouldn't sell it to me.... I just went back an hour later and went to a different checkout counter & that guy sold it to me no problem. Also, I always have to laugh at the little 15 year old kids that card me when I buy a ticket for an R rated new release. Kill Bill for instance, this little twerp that could not have possibly been old enough to drive, takes my money, prints my ticket & then holds it in his hand refusing to give it to me until I show him my ID. I just had to laugh at him as I tossed it at in his direction because I was 25 at that point and have been legally allowed to see R rated movies for more than a third of my lifespan while this kid is probably still wishing he could get in to them. |
I don't know what they have where you live, but you should try Tower or Dimple Records....the people working in those stores are usually pretty cool......I took my niece to Tower to buy a cd on her 13th birthday, and she bought and paid for it herself without me, since I was next door at International Imports:)

Wah Wah - you bunch of babies. . . wait until you have to get up three times a night to go pee or your joints creek everytime you get out of bed . . .why when i was a kiddie we had to walk up hill in the snow to rent a movie - - - -and they were LASERDISCS!!!

i hate getting carded. they've carded me for movies, cds, and get this one rubber cement. in case no one is aware of what that is it's glue. and it sucks cause i'm only 15, so i have to go back and have my mom buy it.
it happened to me on mother's day once. i was tryin to buy the special edition of Pulp Fiction and they carded me. my sister was there and she was 17 at the time, but she didn't have her permit or anything. so we had to spend half an hour tryin to get my stepdad (who drove us to Wal-Mart) to go in and by the damn thing. i hate cenorship. |
Have a bum buy it for you..just give him like $1.75 extra so he can buy himself a 40
Just make sure you watch him while hes buying it |

There has to be age restrictions on violent and sexy material. Would you like a little boy terrified by the grim horrors of Haute Tension, Saw or Wolf Creek? Teenagers are always going to complain, since teenagers want to be classed as adults. But, like it or not, until you are an adult your parents and The State are responsible for you. So be resourceful - like someone just said, give a bum a bottle of cider from your parents' cabinet and ask him to buy/rent stuff for you. |
In response to the last remark, if we're going to have classification, let's do it right, eh?
Last night I walked in to the same store and bought Dead Alive, possibly the goriest movie of all time, and had no troubles. But heaven forbid I buy that CD with a few 'fucks' in it. If they're going to "classify" they need a consistent system, or no system at all. I say fuck it. |
OK, that's it. I'm starting an HDC geriatrics club where I can speak freely about spending an hour coding a program in Basic on my Commodore 64 so I could catalogue my VHS tapes. Who's with me?
|
Gee
That really sucks man. I remember being that young & the stickers were just starting with Tipper Gore leading the way on this crap. Personally I just buy at my local video store on some special items but its all good because I actually know the owner. Still this sucks & I'am glad I'am not in high school anymore because this is the type of crap that used to get me really worked up. Its like Walmart editting movies themselves.
|
I think some of you kids really should find some underground sources too, and forget the likes of Walmart and Blockbuster, who have a bad reputation for dealing with 'troublesome' films.
Consider the Japanese approach to censorship: violent, sadistic rape and body-tunnelling gore is applied with great relish and deemed just fine, but a glimpse of muff or cock will never, ever do. Alky: are you saying the classification for Dead Alive is the same as the CD and the store has been inconsistent, or that the ratings are different and the store has been correct? |
word?
like everyone else said, that fucking sucks. i'm 26 and that happened to me when i wanted to buy an NWA cd at 16, but you've got an advantage that i didn't have: the internet... just download it on itunes.
|
Actually I'm all for the banning or resricting of sales of gangsta rap and 'dark' metal.
Not because it might corrupt... but because it is $H!T :D Although I do like SlipKnot, so they are exonerated. |

I'm only 14, yet managed to obtain two rocks of prime crack cocaine from a gentleman in my local Back Alley, and not only did he not ask for any I.D., he even told me to come back for some more at any time, or that he would even deliver if I wanted five rocks or over!
So clearly things are not that bad for us kids. |

Yes he did - did I forget to mention that?
It tasted a bit like tuna. |
Slip this in
Oh that brings back memories. Anyhow I'am with everyone here about using legal internet sources to get what you need. Censorship certainly does suck & it does seem to limit alot of folks rights to getting the music or movies they deserve. Iam not for corporate censorship either practiced by any number of sources.

Quote:
They sold me 'Dead Alive', they wouldn't sell me the CD. |
So both carry the same rating then.
You're right - they shouldn't have sold you either. Or both. :D |
just buy it online
|
If there were no ratings then everything would have to be safe for little kiddies to watch. I'm 33 if I want to watch graphic horror and listen to music telling me to kill a bunch of people I shouldn't be stopped because it could make some dumb 10 year old go out and kill someone. So ratings have a place but censorship sure as hell doesn't. Now if people under age buy stuff they shouldn't be able to and their parents go mental about it and go to the press etc then it makes the politicians try to make stricter rules or start banning stuff, like they tried to in the UK with Grand Theft Auto and Manhunter. I know it sucks if you are under age but think how much it sucks if you are over 30 and suddenly all the stuff you want is either censored or banned!
Any way you can always find someone else to get it for you, or as others have said just get it from the internet. Rant over;) |
Good points, and it boils down to the inability (or reluctance) of parents to take responsibility for their children and not blame their wayward actions on videos and computer games.
Even if, in an alternative universe, this media did put such ideas in young heads then it is again the parents' responsibility to not allow their children exposure to the material. |
