So, the 2006 remake. What does anybody think of this? Have they done it justice? Have you seen it? If so, how crap was it?
|

I've heard mixed opinions about this film, I'm wanting to be proven wrong. I'm hoping that for once hollywood can get it right. I'm thinking the guy out of scream, julia stiles, doesn't work for me. Oh yeah and Pete Postlethwaite! That's just a joke! |

either, i hope it's not a disappointment either. i just don't c julia in a omen flick myself she is more of a save the last dance........... you get the point! if you could have picked the cast, who would it b? |

Yeah, julia "chick flick" stiles. Can't see it myself, I can't take here serious. Save the last dance, fuck yeah. I was forced to watch that by my loving wife, well I thought she loved me anyway! As for my cast, I don't know really to be honest. I think they're better off with unknowns or up and comings, if not maybe just one well known actor to keep you interested. That blonde bird that was in the ring, she was quite humble and almost a believable character. Somebody like her. The dude, I'm not so sure about him cos I'm guessing he would have to be the lead, apart from the little boy. The boy, he could really be anybody also, but from what I've heard he sounds more cute than devil-like, so I don't know. Maybe that's the idea? |
well i am American. there are many different nationalities that post here!
yeah that movie sucked and as does the rest of em! and i just wanted to c who you would pick! :D |

I think with actors you already know, you find yourself comparing them to other movies, and tend not to enjoy them as much. |
I think the Omen remake will be a stinker...
So i'm waiting untill it comes out on DVD.....bastards.:( |
what's up dante!!!!!!!!!
@bb i agree with you, i do tend to classify the person to the kind of the movie they make! |

The Omen (2006) was possibly the best remake of a horror movie to come around in years. It had no disrespectful changes, kept the exact storyline, and, aside from the kid and Julia Stiles, the acting was good. And it was cool to see Mia Farrow ('Rosemary's Baby') play the nanny, and very well.
Long story short, if they create an exact remake, people will bitch. If they change the plot for a remake, people will bitch If they're going to remake a horror movie, THIS is the way to do it. |
At the time of posting this thread I had not actually seen this film. However, I can confirm that after watching this film yesterday I was pleasantly happy with the result.
I didn't quite understand why they had to have julia stiles waking up with strange dreams, that were actually more interesting than the real thing! However, apart from that I would say that on the whole it's really good. Didn't like the kid one bit, I wanted to smack him in the mouth! Along with Julia! I didn't feel disapppointed afterwards. I haven't seen the original series of omen films, and so I think that helped to be honest as I didn't have any expectations about this one. |
So you were complaining about a remake of a movie you havent seen?
|
wasn't expecting much either, but it was actually pretty decent.
that little kid was annoying as hell though. look at person, pout, squint eyes, look at camera, pout, squint eyes. arrggghh also how inappropriate was the "tension" between the kid and mia farrow when she's feeding him strawberries ?? haha |

The Omen was the first decent remake of an old classic I ve seen in the millenium. The smartest thing the director did was to stick to the original's script, with small tweaks here and there. The casting was really debatable, but the rest was decent enuff. But still, it aint a remake which can be said to be even "on par" with the original, which was really brilliant.

I really liked this remake, but i also find the story line very facinating. I really wish that I had not seen it in the theater though, because everyone there thought it was suppose to be this big Scary Bloodfest, and all I heard was complaing and sighs and stupid middle school kids on their cell phones! Do some fucking research before you go to the movie and ruin it for everyone else cause your bored! Or atleast see the first one! |
i have heard nothing but possitive reviews of this remake... i really need to get off my ass and see it.
|
I disagree. The original Omen is much better. Hills have Eyes was better than the original though.
|
The New Omen was trash and I know my movies I think the problem was following the original so close. It needed somethin else All I know is when I fall asleep to the movie it wasnt good enough.

I sooooo sooooo have no interest in this remake. The original was one of those basically perfect big horror flicks. I bet it's basically one of those "holy crap I shouldn't have spent the ten bucks" type movies. I know I sound cynical, but as many people have pointed out, remakes have become an actual problem lately. What bothers me the most about this rash of remakes is the rather offensive implication to today's (read: "younger") audiences that the newer films update and replace the original flicks ("Look, we have MTV cutting and modern effects! That makes us cooler, just 'cuz!"). This effectively makes the new audience ignore the original films as if they never existed.
I haven't seen the film, so technically this is a rant, criticizing the trend and not the film, but it seems appropriate. |
i think the origional Omen is one of the most perfect horror films ever made.
i havent seen the remake but i'll probably check it out to see how a new cast does with the origional script. my film reviewer friend said that if you havent seen the origional, then its probably worth a look. If you have seen the origional then there isnt much point. he did say it was compitently made though. |

What we are saying is that it was a fun little modernization to a classic. |
The thing that annoys me is that people compare things to the "original", what is that? They compare the war of the worlds with the "original", when in fact it was based on a book by orson wells. If they do a film about a book, they say it's not as good as the book, they make a newer version of a film and they say it's not as good as the first. I think most people are biassed, as it's only the people who've seen the original that complain.
After seeing the remake of omen however, I do now want to see the others. But only cos I liked the story, I ignored the fact that they picked a shit kid, that julia styles can't act, that they got trumpet blower pete postlethwaite to join in. The modernisation enhanced the story line for me, if they stick a load of white paint on your face and make spooky ghost sounds it doesn't automatically make it better, like they did back in the day. Like I said before in another thread, we all have our exorcist. Salems lot was mine, and it probably counts for the omen too. We have our own memories of how the original affected our state of mind. |

If H G Wells were alive...Anyway I think that the real problem with all those remakes is that it shows that horror genre is on his worst momment. Not only 'cause today most part of this kind of films are prety bad it's just that the only way to get more audience it's remaking all time clasics.

going to see it tonight

Wow I saw this movie last night and FUCK DID IT SUCK! I love the original and everything but this was brutal. They tried to make the same movie word for word. I read in my RueMourge Meg that the writter of the original wasnt even credited even though they used the same script, they gave credit to another writter who just threw in a couple exta scenes
