Any critic here who wants to fight Ewe Boll?

Am I too late? Is this old news? Oh well...

From Gamespot:
Ever since House of the Dead hit theaters in 2003, Uwe Boll has become one of gamers' favorite whipping boys. Besides the aforementioned adaptation, the director has turned two other high-profile games-- Alone in the Dark and BloodRayne--into critically eviscerated would-be blockbusters.

Although he hasn't received many box-office dollars for his efforts, Boll has been the subject of the slings and arrows of countless snide forum posts and deprecating articles. So, today, when Skewed & Reviewed first posted a press release announcing that Boll wanted to take on his detractors in the boxing ring, many took it to be the latest in a series of running jokes about the Schweinfurt, Germany-based filmmaker.

Guess what? It isn't.

Today, GameSpot contacted Boll's recently-hired-but-already-weary-sounding publicist to inquire if the release on Skewed & Reviewed was indeed the real thing. "Here is the press release that you requested," was the sum of the terse e-mail response, which came with a complete version of the release attached.

"Uwe Boll Challenges His Critics 'To Put Up Or Shut Up!'" was the headline of the bellicose statement. It went on to throw down the gauntlet to Boll's online detractors, much like the titular characters did in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

"I am fed up," said Boll. "I'm fed up with people slamming my films on the Internet without see[ing] them. Many journalists make value judgments on my films based on the opinions of one or two thousand Internet voices. Half of those opinions come from people who've never watched my films."

To answer his critics, Boll is orchestrating what might be considered one of the more bizarre sweepstakes in memory. After he finishes the ongoing shoot of In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, and the subsequent project, Seed, starring the TV incarnation of Conan the Barbarian, bodybuilder Ralf Moeller (Gladiator), Boll will move onto the big-screen version of studio Running With Scissors' controversial Postal series. During that shoot, Boll will personally take on his biggest detractors in boxing matches to be used in the film.

"Towards the end of the filming of Postal the five most outspoken critics will be flown into Vancouver and supplied with hotel rooms," read Boll's press release. "As a guest of Uwe Boll they will be given the chance to be an extra/stand-in in Postal and have the opportunity to put on boxing gloves and enter a BOXING RING [emphasis in the original] to fight Uwe Boll. Each critic will have the opportunity to bring down Uwe in a 10-bout match. There will be five matches planned over the last two days of the movie. Certain scenes from these boxing matches will become part of the Postal movie. All five fights will be televised on the Internet and will be covered by international press."

However, not just anyone who is so inclined will have the chance to put the smackdown on Boll. "To be eligible you must be a critic who has posted on the Internet or have written in magazines/newspapers at least two extremely negative articles in the year 2005. Critics of 2006 will not be considered," said Boll's statement, meaning that said disparaging reviews must predate the theatrical release of BloodRayne.

Boll also called out two of his fellow filmmakers by name to take him on in the ring. "Roger Avary and Quentin Tarantino are among the most eligible candidates," read the statement, referring to the writer and writer/director of Pulp Fiction. Avary also wrote the screenplay for the film version of Silent Hill and will write and direct the upcoming big-screen spin on the Driver games.

Would-be challengers must submit proof of negative reviews and/or comments via e-mail to [email protected]. They must also submit to a physical to prove they are a healthy male between 140 and 190 pounds and must sign a waiver saying they will not subsequently ask for fees or residuals following their ringtime with Dr. Boll. In recompense, the winning challengers will be provided hotel rooms in Vancouver, location of the Postal shoot.

Someone send him the link to my review of "BloodRayne"...

I d love to kick the shit outta him and make him see some stars and (possibly?) some sense...

Despare 06-16-2006 11:57 AM

Has to be prior to Bloodrayne I believe it says...

noctuary 06-16-2006 12:11 PM

I'd fight the fucker. Too bad I'm just an anonymous Internet persona.

How bad a guy can he be, if he invites his detractors for a physical smack-down session? C'mon. Boll's an okay guy, and as for his films being reprehensible or unmitigated, heck, I had a great time with House of the Dead.

Elvis_Christ 06-16-2006 06:05 PM

^^ Totally agree with there dude.

Why can't they have something like this with Ron Howard. I'd fuck that cunt up :)

I know...that review of BR which I wrote is the most decent, polite & kind one which I ve written of his movies yet.

If he read my reviews of his earlier works, he might take a nose-dive jump into the Pacific and spare us from more of his shitass work.

bwind22 06-16-2006 08:52 PM

I've shredded all 3 of his movies on this forum. Too bad I'm not a critic...

And what a pussy to call out QT. Hey Uwe, try calling out someone other than the scrawniest director in Hollywood.

I hope Ewe kicks the fuck out of whoever he fights.

You actually like those 90 minute wastes of life he calls films?

mothermold 06-16-2006 10:02 PM

For Uwe's sake I hope he's a better boxer than director otherwise he's likely to have his arse handed to him.

This like all of Cuntburger's films is a cheap publicity stunt and I propose we take up a HDC collection fund to possibly retain the services of say....Royce Gracie..hell even Mike Tyson(I'm pretty sure he needs the cash)to pound on Mr.Boll's arse proper.

I've only seen House of the Dead and thought it was crap but had a bunch of laughs at its own expense. I'm just sick of the whole I hate Uwe bullshit. He made some bad films so what? Don't fuckin' watch them there's no need for this bullshit crusade against him.

Well, what the fuck else we gonna do? It gets boring telling everyone what I think about this horror movie or what I bought at Wal-Mart today. I say, let us bitch, and if need be, let us bitch slap.

Hate_Breeder 06-17-2006 07:42 AM

I'd shank em

Think that he'd stop making movies eventually.

You guys had fun with House of the Dead? Are you serious?

You could say the same thing about remakes though. Don't watch them if you don't like them. The problem with Ewe is the fact that he takes liscenses that could be made into really good movies like Bloodrayne, HotD, Alone in the Dark, Far Cry, Hunter, Fear Effect...

Although if you REALLY think about it would somebody have put these game licenses to better use? All I know is HotD sucked and since I was a big fan of the game hated the movie. Haven't seen the others so I can't comment on their quality but I can make an educated guess. He's the Ed Wood of videogame movies. The cast of Dungeon Seige is crazy cool though with Jason Statham,
Ray Liotta, and Burt Reynolds.

Uwe Boll
"They were better than actors. We looked for local Romanian actresses, but there they are all from the theater and act very broadly. For 150 euros a piece the whores would be naked and do as they were told. It was better.” - Uwe Boll (in an interview for Bloodrayne: The Movie talking about why he chose to use prostitutes instead of actual actresses).

I can see where Elvis is coming from...

but the thing is, when we know about the games, and we know that there can be kickass movies made outta em (look at Resident Evil & Silent Hill), Boll's efforts are really, really disappointing. It sorta breaks the hearts to see such an awesome and splendid game get spoiled rotten on the big screen.

For example, Alone in the Dark. I remember when I played it the first time, I used to glance over my shoulders repeatedly just to make sure there were no beasts prowling in the dark. (aint kidding, some games did have that effect on me when I was younger). And Boll's movie adaptation? Damn its like a trip to Sunday mass. Go, watch, hear from one ear, roll em outta the other, and forget it in a hurry, lest you throw up.

Why watch em? Its sorta hard to not watch a movie which is based on a game which you have played for so long and have grown to love and adore. In Boll's case, you can only hope. I hated HoTD, I hated AitD, still I went to see BloodRayne. I was disappointed again, but I went.

All the guy could do, is make at least a decent adaptation of the game. If no plot comes to mind, why not stick to the plot or premise of the game itself? Even Doom, as much as it sucked, still had some really kick-ass scenes.

I know Urge will have a similar opinion about this too...

I hope I made some sense...my two cents in.
