Shelters Upset PETA Killed Animals Instead Of Adopting Out

Norfolk, West Virginia -- Two North Carolina counties have stopped turning over shelter animals to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Officials said they were surprised to learn the group euthanized cats and dogs instead of trying to find them homes. They said they believed the animals were being taken for evaluation, and were being adopted out -- and that euthanasia would be only a last resort.

PETA said unfortunately, even some healthy animals may be euthanized if PETA cannot find them homes. Documents show PETA euthanized about 6,100 domestic animals from 2001-2003.

Two PETA employees have been charged with animal cruelty for dumping dead animals they collected in eastern North Carolina into a shopping center's garbage bins.

Investigators had staked out the bin after discovering dead animals had been dumped there each Wednesday for the past four weeks. Neither police nor PETA have offered any suggestion on why the animals might have been dumped.

The organization said the two had been picking up animals to be brought back to PETA headquarters to be euthanized. One of the employees has been suspended. Both are free on bond, and are set to appear in court Friday.

The group's president said PETA would be "appalled" if the pair did dump the animals in the bin.

Thieves Fed Dead Woman To Guinea Pigs

UK - A woman's remains which were stolen from her grave may have been fed to guinea pigs by animal rights activists, it was claimed yesterday.

Police believe two people spent more than four hours digging up the body of Gladys Hammond, whose son-in-law breeds the animal s for medical research.

And last night, there was speculation that fanatics from the Animal Liberation Front may have been responsible and taken the outrage even further.

A source with links to the ALF said: 'There are no lengths that these people will not go to and feeding this poor woman to the guinea pigs is the sort of irony they would like.'

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Baker, heading the inquiry, refused to say which parts of the body had been had been taken during last Wednesday's raid on the grave in the cemetery of St Peter's Church in the village of Yoxall, Staffordshire.

Mrs Hammond, who died aged 82 in 1997, was the mother-in-law of Chris Hall who breeds guinea pigs at a farm in nearby Newchurch.

I think that you can do, believe, and practice, most anything you like, but keep it in your house and to yourself. If you don't want to eat meat for moral reasons, that's great, but make sure you practice what you preach. Also, don't expect the rest of the omnivorous human world to follow your specific doctrine.

Yup, I feel really guilty eating meat. I honestly do. I swear. I have a hard time killing anything except: mosquitoes, wasps, and hornets, because those bastards are dangerous (wasps because me and my dad are allergic to them, hornest because they swarm). Everything else is just senseless to me. However, I, as a human, have a hard time not eating meat, especially in my family. It's something I'm either going to have to come to terms with or bite the bullet and give up all together. It won't be out of self righteous indignation, or because a bunch of hypocritical morons shout in my face, but a personal commitment. I sure as hell won't expect everyone else to feel that way.

You know, all of this brings to mind something I saw on tv years ago. It was around Christmas and me da and I were watching the news. An old woman, and I mean 80 or higher, not very ambulitory, was wearing a fur coat in NY city at the wrong time and place. She hobbled out of her car, cane in hand, when these young protestors jumped right in her face. I'm a liberal, and I was an even bigger liberal then, but that made me sick. Really really made me sick. I mean, if someone of our generation was wearing fur, I could sorta see getting in their face, but a woman who probably got her coat from her husband in the fifties...that's fucking ridiculous, especially since she could barely walk. You just don't attack old people for wearing fur.

I have a mink stoll that was my grandmother's. I abhor the wearing of fur, but I'm gonna keep it. It was my grandmother's, and well...her memory outweighs my conviction on this subject.
