SCARIEST MOVIE SEARCH.....please help!

Can you guys help......the only scary movie for me was the Exorcist and I have NOT been able to find something that compares to that movie !
I've taken some advice from people who I probably shouldn't have and saw that movie, "The Thing"......what a DUMB movie....I was laughing !
I saw "The Innocents".....it was a black and white flick......totally STUPID !
And I'm sorry to offend those who like Friday the 13th......but that stuff isn't scary AT ALL for me.

Can anyone give me a list of REALLY SCARY movies ?!?!

THANKS !!

Jen

More market research, it looks like...except this time designed to look like it was written by some crazy kid...these marketing people must think we're silly or something.........................

Alien gave me nightmares my whole life. Every few months I have a dream with one of those things in it to this day....and if that doesn't work for you then watch "Beaches" with Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey....that'll give ya nightmares...

There's no hope...

Obviously you're beyond fun scares, since you think they're dumb (because JC's masterpiece, which I assume you're talking about, is near perfect, for me).

So I guess you need to try some exploitation shock.

Try Last House on the Left, Cannibal Holocaust, Eraserhead, or I Spit On Your Grave.

(If you are, in fact, genuinely searching for a film...)

Market research...huh ?

I don't understand someone's reply ? Market research ?
I am new to horror.com, I just registered today......I came upon it after searching google. Me a kid ?? I'm a 29 year old female......nice try though.

No really, I'm looking for truly scary movies......I want to start a collection and need either great classics, (must be comparable to Exorcist) or newer stuff. Maybe along the lines of Hostel.....anyone see that by the way ?

Calm down a little bit. They give everyone that's new a hard time....most of the n00bs anyways.

As far as scary movies, I found the movie Deadbirds scary for some reason. That's the only movie that has ever really creeped me out. But I have yet to have any nightmares because of a movie. If you need anymore help, just ask. :)

By the way, you asked where we're from. I'm in Georgia in the states. I can't wait to move....

And Hostel was a good storyline and all, but too much uneeded and unwanted gore and nudity plauged the film to make it anything worth while. I didn't care for it so much.

Hell yah, dude. Dead Birds was a great little B-horror flick. Some genuinely scary moments in there.

Too much gore?...What dat means?...WHO doesn't need or want it? :p

My problem with Hostel is that I really wanted some of that "too much gore" at least SOMEWHERE in the first 45 minutes (no one even tripped, got a paper cut, got poked in the eye or stubbed a toe:rolleyes: )...And, as far as I'm concerned, the film NEEDED it...

As for the question in this thread...Ever heard of a movie called 'Night Of The Living Dead'?...Oh...It's in black and white (the original)...So...You may not like it...

The Flayed One 05-22-2006 08:26 AM

There's really no way to say what the scariest movie, or even a scary movie, is. Peoples fears and what affects them differ so much from person to person. I never found Exorcist all that frightening. Great story, and a few creepy moments definately. I think Exorcist III is one of the creepiest movies ever. For a lot of people, it's too dialogue driven. I really don't like having everything in my face, though.

Yeah...I always say that...

Hey!...That reminds me....You guys remember that movie where they're on a ship out in space, and whatever they're most afraid of is what kills them?....One guy had a fear of snakes (or worms, something like that)...And someone had a fear of heights...I think there were spiders, too...I can't remember what the girl was afraid of but, I would LOVE to see that movie again...Wish I could remember what it was called...It was quite a while ago...More than 10 years...I think...

filmmaker2 05-22-2006 08:59 AM

Okay, maybe you're not a market research person.

Some of it WAS needed. When I mean the "unneeded", I mean the gore in it that did nothing either way to improve the film or not.

Example:
When it shows blood all over the floor with no apparent reason for it being there. Just a huge puddle of blood, but no ones been killed there.

The gore in Hostel just didn't feel right for some reason. It was different than other gore films. It just felt out of place in that paticular title for some reason. And maybe it's just because the over amount of nudity in it.

I'm pretty sure that was to show that lots of people HAD been killed there...

Well...THAT was just retarded...Completely unnecessary...And, I really feel that if they hadn't wasted so much time with the soft-core porn, they could have used THAT time for more gore...I felt like it was two different movies, and I liked the second one a lot, but hated the first one...That's just me :)

The nudity really downgraded the film IMO. That's why the gore seemed pointless I think. It was porno with blood. Not that that's a bad thing *smirks showing teeth*, but the gore paired with the porn just doesn't work.

"I love you, you know" ~Nicole Kidman to Mike Myers - Hyperactive Boy leashed to jungle gym...Saturday Night Live Skit...You gotta picture it sounding like that :D

If you absolutely need a newer film, and can't appreciate the classics, I found The Blair Witch project pretty terrifying. A hell of a film.

The Entity, thats pretty creepy, well I thought it was anyway.

Or Bloodsucking freaks, badly made film and most would say it is crap but it is quite unsettling in places.

That's the funniest SNL skit ever made. I'm really glad that I wasn't the only one to ever see it too. Every time I try to quote it people are like, "What the fuck are you talking about?" Thanks Rayne.

jenfra 05-22-2006 07:49 PM

Thanks.....

Thanks guys.....alot of great films I'll check out.

I must say though, many so-called scary movies are just so boring for me.
Let's take "The Thing" for example.....it really is so silly watching it. (No offense to those who like it)
I mean think about it.....can that crap really EVER happen ??
What scares the hell out of me is the slight possibility that something in the movie could possibly be true, or exist.
Good example.....The Exorcist......well, maybe not to that extent.....but there have been quite a few reported cases of demonic possession or whatever you'd like to call it.
And Pope John Paul has acutally performed some exorcisms himself in Europe.
Also, I don't like when there is a so much nudity in a horror flick......I say just leave that crap out. (That's what porn is for).

So now that you've got a feel for what kind of flicks I prefer, maybe you guys have some more suggestions.

I'm telling you, nothing like watching a horror flick on a first date. I can tell right away if the guy is a wuss or not !!!

VampiricClown 05-22-2006 07:57 PM

Haha, well, you won't find too many wussies here. I've yet to find a horror movie that's really scared the hell out of me.

The Thing....I personally found it boring. Both of them actually.

About The Exorcist, I've not seen this movie yet. But I'm not a believer of all the demon stories. And for some reason, religious horror films do not really interest me.
