First Job

Well, I just started my first real job today, a "Sales Associate" at a local Convenience Store/Gas Station. Amazingly enough, it's more than minimum wage! Not much more...but still:)

What did everyone else do as their first taste of the workforce?

noctuary 05-14-2006 05:11 PM

I was a fry cook at a Captain D's (a fast-food seafood place, for those who don't know.) A wretched job that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

pinkfloyd45769 05-14-2006 06:43 PM

Telemaketer, i wonder if i ever called any of you??!!

ItsAlive75 05-14-2006 06:53 PM

Cashier at Brookfield Zoo... it was actually a fun job. Got to go eat by the monkeys every day, sometimes they'd circle jerk... sometimes they wouldn't. It was like a beat-off roulette every day. Whaaaat a summer.

Miss Olivia 05-14-2006 07:06 PM

My first job was at a Wendy's burger joint. I started off as fry girl... I always went home feeling like a french fry...
Ick.

You were gonna get a spider monkey? You better keep that monkey somewhere safe when you have that baby... somethin' tells me there'd be a battle for dominance... with hilaaaaarious results.:D

Webmaster for a CD import store. Found out that no matter what it paid I couldn't deal with computer work. 8 hours a day doing computer work and/or playing GTA (the first one) while waiting for something to do. Quit and got a more active job, no use not being happy just to make some dough right? I did double the guy's business though, he didn't even accept credit card orders on-line it was all phone and mail. Ahhhh... the good ole' days.

The STE 05-14-2006 08:17 PM

I've never held a regular job

horror_fan_Nick 05-14-2006 10:57 PM

My first job was a blowjob :p

On a more serious note...can't work till October. :)

Spallalala 05-15-2006 12:15 AM

My first job was a market research job...Great pay shit areas to work on haha. I ended up telling the boss I would leave ( because he threatened me with a law suit over something I had said when a client was around..either way...He was a dickhead and heard things wrong)...but yeah. Did that for just under a year.

My second job was the same shit. Much nicer place tho. Just ended up walking out on that one haha. Shit jobs were given to me while I was there..Actually cheebs and I both got up and left haha. We just said fuck it and walked out.

Well there you go.. Thats my job history haha.

Towel/water/ball/uniform boy for the Saints.

I don't know if you can really call it a job since I didn't get paid, but that was the last thing I was worried about with an oppurtunity/expierence like that.

cheebacheeba 05-15-2006 04:49 AM

Worked at "The icecream factory", a shop that sold icecream, icecream cakes, and shakes.
I mixed icecream (unflavoured unfrozen icecream STINKS by the way), cleaned out fridges/freezers, and wrote stuff on cakes.

OH - I remember you - Brookfield, whoo what a place. . .

my first real job, other than my many circus and zoo gigs, was in an autoparts warehouse - we'd ship out orders to local auto parts and mechanics. i loved my job, it was like grocery shopping with an enormous cart and i could wear my walkman (back when there were walkmen) and not talk to anyone all day. i loved my job so much i would forget to take breaks and piss off all the older 'union' guys who didn't want me to go so far beyond my quota. . . then, despite being the most productive shipper in the warehouse, i was let go.

Abominus 05-15-2006 05:11 AM

Lifeguard, stupid kisd seem to like to drown.

SKOOFx 05-15-2006 05:40 AM

Believe it or not, my first job was a beer-boy in a liquor store. We would stock the coolers with beer and carry out cases for customers.

Stocking the coolers in the back room....away from the boss....if ya get my drift...was a fun time.

At seventeen....it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

1beastieibe 05-15-2006 08:18 AM

Very first and shortest job was working as a Busser at a Buffett, until my supervisor went mad when his 15 year old girlfriend broke up with him and he started throwing trash cans around and hit me.

kpropain 05-15-2006 11:01 AM

My grandfather owned a painting business when I was a kid, so I started painting houses at the age of 10 during the summers during the week, what fun I tell ya, nah actually it wasn't too bad a job for being a kid, and making about 250 to 300 a week, was pretty cool...

lovecraft 05-15-2006 12:20 PM

I stuffed Sunday newspapers early Saturday morning.

It was horrible.

It took hours to get the ink off my hands.

stubbornforgey 05-15-2006 01:04 PM

chainleen 05-15-2006 01:59 PM

My first job was waiting tables at a resturaunt my parents owned at the time. It blew, there are no labor laws when your parents were involved. I don't think I ever saw a paycheck from my dad and the tips sucked.

The_Return 06-19-2006 06:16 AM

Just an update:

Im loving this job. I mostly work out at the gas bar, and with gas prices the way they are hardly anyone wants to pay an extra 5 cents per litre for me to pump their gas. So basically, I sit in my little booth with the radio blaring, occasionally getting up to fill a car. Easiest job EVER.

The Flayed One 06-19-2006 07:04 AM

I was a text-fitter for a book bindery. Basically, people measured the spine of a book, put the title on a slip of paper & handed it to me. I entered it into a computer, decided what size the text should be, hyphenated where need be & spell checked. If the title wouldn't fit on horizontal, I put it on vertical. Dear god, was it boring.

horrorobsessed 06-19-2006 07:07 AM

i'm too young to get a job yet. just need a couple of months. damn the child labor laws!

anyway, the closest i've come to a real job is mowing grass. yuck.

orangestar 06-19-2006 08:40 AM

Bussing tables at a buffet. I also filled the salad bar, did some cashiering and what-not. Pretty boring over all, so I only did it for 6 months.

AmericanManiac 06-19-2006 06:27 PM

Busboy/Dish washer at a food place, needless to say it was only 4 months before I got mart.

My first real fulltime job was planting grape vines on vineyards in rural N,S,W. Long days and hard work, but good money for a 17 year old. I also got to travel and stay in hotels paid for by work ect.

I used to take my girls there when they were younger and when we lived in PA.
What a great place to have a first job!

On our way home we would always stop to buy fresh food from the fabulous amish roadside stands...yum:cool:

The_Return 02-06-2010 07:08 AM

Good Lord, this thread is ancient...what prompted this bump? Heh.

For the record, I ended up working at that place my first post for over 3 years. Worked other jobs too, but always stayed there part-time as back up. Didn't quit until I moved away last summer.

ferretchucker 02-06-2010 08:37 AM

I've helped out my self employed dad on occassions but my first real job starts soon...Bed making at a nearby holiday resort. Still, I'm hoping to transfer to catering or the sports desk.
