My question to all of the goodbye threads is why? Most of the time, they end up coming back anyway. All you should really have to say is that I won't be on for awhile. We all know they usually come back. Secondly, why do they leave in the first place? It's not like it's an actual place you have to drive to or anything. You log on, post, then leave. It's that simple. I honestly don't see the point in leaving, let alone they do always come back (like mentioned before). I'm not trying to put anybody down, I'm just calling them as I see them. But, that's jsut my opinion.

Yeah, that's true. Women can do that to you. At least you're back, because that's all that matters. Glad to hear you're over her.

You're welcome! :) It's always good to hear how much people love this site, because no matter what happens to you, the people here will cheer you up, no matter what. That's why I love Horror.com! And no, I was not paid to say that.

Haunted 05-13-2006 03:21 PM

At least mine was creative.

Maybe it's the mood that I'm in, but I really want to say, "Don't roll your eyes at me, goddamnit!"

Sometimes, I find that "goodbye threads" done in the correct vein are curteous ways of letting people know that you're going to take a breather. It's kind of like being in a room of friends and excusing yourself to go have a smoke or go get a soda.

In my situation I intended to step out longer than I did, so give me a fucking break. I happen to like HDC more than I thought. I've met some really cool people here, and I enjoy their conversation more than I thought I did, so I came back. Piss off!

Again, this could be the mood I'm in, or I could just be really offended, because this is a thread with only one purpose that being to take the piss out of other members for no fucking reason what so ever.

..bullshit....then I have to take the pissssss out of nearly all the members of HDC..why would I do that ? .....its more like an information thread...

Haunted 05-13-2006 04:05 PM

Well, I guess I wouldn't know why you'd want to do that, but I don't see what information you're trying to put across except that some people are a bit anal retentive about posting certain things.

I mean, Jesus fucking Christ, we have 8 billion tournaments going on, spam out the ass, all kinds of bullshit threads, and you're worried about people saying they're going to nip out for a bit?

Sadly, I don't think I've seen Darkman (but the title does ring a bell). I was just commenting on why he said it in this thread.

My question to all of the goodbye threads is why?
Some might say, it is a delusion of grandeur - that so many people might care.

Others could think the goodbye thread is attention seeking.

Yet more would offer it is a simple mental boost, or shot-in-the-arm - an 'unfortunate thing' that can generate instant reaction and comfort (even sympathy) and only takes two minutes to type.

Of course, a few people might be genuinely pleasant and polite. But - ouch! - the 'not going after all' admission has gotta hurt...

:D

P.S. I've had enough, I'm leaving because my dog died once and there was a time I wasn't sure about things and I need a little time, a little time to think things over. I better read between the lines, in case I need it when I'm older. Now this mountain I must climb, feels like a world upon my shoulders. But through the clouds I see love shine, it keeps me warm as life grows colder. Innnnn myyyy liiiiiffee.... there's been heartache and paiiin....

Haunted 05-14-2006 04:48 AM

Oh I do love the "attention seeking" rational, because that's the solution to everything. I think that people who use that reasoning should stand in front of a mirror and said the phrase "attention whore" out loud. Just to see how you'd come out of it.

In other words, that a bullshit reason, not to mention a blanket statement.

Jesus Christ, some people get their panties in a wad over the stupidest things.

Why mke a thread about the types of threads that you hate? Seems a bit silly as well as counterproductive to me. Of course, posting in a thread that I think is dumb is also dumb, so we're all in the shitter.

Zero 05-14-2006 05:02 AM

for the record:
1) I have never actually made a 'goodbye' thread - mine are more arithmetically arranged absences.

2) I think some people post goodbye threads for the simple and straightforward reason that they are going to be away - even if only for a little bit - and are courteously notifying those of us who might miss them

and, 3) I took Haunted's advice and repeated "I am an Attention Whore" in the mirror - it didn't really help.

It was just a random thought about how I am here and not here.

My not being present in this forum has no bearing on the rotation of the earth. The sun will rise and set tomorrow and the Gods will still play.

I dont see anything wrong with telling people that you are taking a leave of absence. Its not really my style but to each his own. Some people want the people they care about to know that they arent going to be around for a while. Some, myself included, dont really give a shit enough to tell people I am taking a break.

When I first came here I loved this forum and all the people in it. Now its a shell of its former self and with all the constant bickering, I wont mention names, it can become mentally draining.

Its like walking into a room and you find all your friends fighting, do you stay and listen to the BS or do you leave until it settles down??

_____V_____ 05-14-2006 06:23 AM

why does anyone need to say goodbye anyway? If you were here for a long while and got tonz of friends, all you can do is go to your User box and PM all of them or email them that you were leaving...thats it...

Most people like me dont have many friends in here. Contacts and acquaintances maybe, but friends nope. So if I disappear for a while I am not missed or noticed...

Same goes for people who are too old and pass away somewhere out there, and the news never reaches the forums. Others might meet an accident and get bed-ridden in the hospital, and cant make it back here...

Its a fact...many things happen to people outside the puter...and it would look ridiculous if someone posts "I have been hit by a truck and went through 4 operations in the past week, so I ve come to say farewell and goodbye." wtf...you are in the ICU somewhere and you hook onto the puter to post a goodbye thread at HDC?

(and, to clarify the record, I NEVER posted a goodbye thread - just a mathematical observation)

I'm with you on this one.

And as far as the godbye threads, when someone goes away, and someone notices, they're all like "Where did (Name) go? What happened to (Name)?"

So that's my theory. At least some people say where they're going. And I did leave, I'm not on the computer much at all anymore. Everytime I sign on, everyone on my buddy list all say "I haven't talked to you in forever" and stuff. I just don't find the computer as interesting as I did once.

agreed - i hate it when people suddenly disappear - like Moonlit Meadow, i loved her, she was great and funny and smart and i haven't seen a post from her in months. . . personally i would have liked a goodbye thread just to know what's up (of course, in fairness, there might have been one. . . i don't pay that close attention)

I still say it should be a rule. Make a goodbye thread, don't be allowed back on site :D

Ditto! Horror.com is like my home away from home (in which I post in here when I'm at home, so that's kind of comical). I love this place because of the great people I've met! So yes, I'd make my last breath be on Horror.com!

ItsAlive75 05-14-2006 07:55 AM

If you're going to leave, why not just leave? Seriously, we don't all "know" each other here. Sure, some of us talk to other members outside of the forum, hell maybe even visit from time to time. So if you're saying you wanna say goodbye to them, there's really no purpose... because you talk to them on the oustide anyway.

Basically, there's no reason to make goodbye threads. The ones you care about you talk to anyway, and the ones you don't probably don't give two shits anyway.

Christ on a crutch, talk about your double standards, eh? It actually, expresses my point, though, in a sneaky kind of way. The thread was kind of double standard. *raises eyebrows a la Groucho Marx*... then again, I could be totally wrong about that.

However, the point still stands that I was, in fact, getting my panties (leopard print, mind you) in a wad, while yelling at people for getting their own panties in a wad. I was deservedly and dutifully called out, and I stand corrected.

MisterSadistro 05-14-2006 05:33 PM

Haunted 05-15-2006 04:33 AM

Precisely

Not everyone is attention whoring when they say good bye.

Okay, I promise I won't say anything else.:D I promise.
