Horror Director Tournament
I have selected 16 of the most reknowned horror directors (Well, 14 actually, plus 2 up and coming horror directors) to compile a tournament to determine the greatest horror director of all time...
You can vote based on whatever you want. First director to 7 votes wins (but if I'm not online to decalre the match over, it continues until I am which means the first director to 7 votes may not neccesarily end up winning if the other one passes him before I sign on and update the thread.) Anyways, there's only 16 director's involved so most people should be familiar with at least a couple of their films... Ready? Here we go...... Round 1 - Match 1 Alexadre Aja - High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes (remake), {FYI- He's also directing Halloween 9, due in 2007.} vs. Tobe Hooper - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original), Eaten Alive, Salem's Lot, The Funhouse, Poltergeist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Spontaneous Combustion, The Mangler, Crocodile, The Toolbox Murders (remake) |
Tobe Hooper.
Heh,you will be putting me in this thing in a couple of years.:D |
Alexandre Aja
High Tension's script was a little suspect which is the only bad thing I have to say about it. Hills Have Eyes was one of the very rare good remakes and with an upcoming Halloween film, plus only being about 28 I believe, he's got the potential to blow Hooper away. |
I was expecting a blowout, but we're all tied up right now after the first couple of votes. 1-1
Aja is only 27! (Hard to believe the guy's less than 2 years older than me and already has 2 pretty kick ass films under his belt plus another on the way. I need to get my ass in gear...) |

I totally expect a 7+ to my 1, obviously he hasn't surpassed Hooper in films made or quality films made, but he got my vote because I believe in time he'll far surpass him. |

Alexandre Aja

Hooper still gets my vote out of respect for past gems.
|
This is blowing me away, but Aja leads Hooper 3-2!!!
This could be a major upset in the making. Need more votes... |
Tobe Hooper
|
Another vote for Aja here. Sure, he's only made two films so far, but both of them were excellent. Hooper, on the other hand, has made a very few good films, and a lot of really awful ones in a 30+ year career. Not a good average.

AJA
|
...
you people are crazy... :p
Tobe Hooper (The ending to Haute Tension ruined the movie completely for me) |

Aja leads 5-4! Need more votes... (And just FYI, I'll be signing off now until much later this evening so vote away....) |
Tobe Hooper
|
As an overall director, I'll have to go with Aja. Yes, ending of 'High Tension' sucked royally, but it had a lot more going on in it than that.

Aja
|
Tobe Hooper. I hated High tension for the most part.

Alexandre Aja pulls out a massive upset over Tobe Hooper 7-6! (wow!)
Round 1 - Match 2 Dario Argento - The Bird with Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre, Inferno, Opera, The Card Player Clive Barker - Hellraiser, NIghtbreed, Lord of Illusions First one to 7 wins... |

Dario destroys Clive 9-2!
Next match coming right up. |
Round 1 - Match 3
Let's see if the tournaments only other up & comer (The first was Aja) can pull off as big an upset as his new school peer... Eli Roth - Cabin Fever, Hostel {He is also slated to direct 4 more upcoming horror films between now and 2007. Hostel 2, The Box, The Bad Seed and Cell.} David Cronenberg - Shivers, Rabid (aka Rage), The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers First one to 7 wins. |
thats a hard one, but ill go with cronenberg.
|
Eli Roth couldn't direct traffic down a one way street :D
CRONENBERG !!!!!! CK |
They'll all be hard. I only took 16 very well known directors.
2-0 Cronenberg is out to an early lead! |
