Hard Candy

Just got back from seeing Hard Candy. Surprised there isn't a thread about it already, anybody else here seen it?

The_Return 04-30-2006 02:07 PM

Im not sure I want to.

The STE 04-30-2006 02:24 PM

The STE 04-30-2006 03:12 PM

well, enjoy isn't the word I'd use, but it is a hell of a movie

Posher778 04-30-2006 03:36 PM

I'll rent it, I already know exactly what happens.

The STE 04-30-2006 03:37 PM

oh, you got it spoiled for you? Bummer.

Posher778 04-30-2006 03:39 PM

Yeah, it's apparently not scary.

The STE 04-30-2006 03:48 PM

well, no, nor does it want to be. That's like saying something like Last House on the Left isn't scary. It's fucking intense, but it's not scary.

Posher778 04-30-2006 03:51 PM

So, it's sort of like Red Eye? In a way?

The STE 04-30-2006 03:52 PM

I haven't seen Red Eye so I can't really say. It's kindof like Audition, but the first 90 minutes are condensed into just the first act, and the rest of the movie is the torture bondange and mindgames stuff

Posher778 04-30-2006 03:59 PM

Oh, sounds weird then, how long is if fully?

The STE 04-30-2006 04:44 PM

almost 2 hours

satanshorn 05-04-2006 01:00 PM

Great film! She's the kinda hard candy I wouldn't mind sucking on! The torture scenes are more psychological than anything. The film really investigates the machinations of the internet pedophile seduction game.

BH14 09-19-2006 09:27 PM

SPOILER*************

Just saw it tonight... Even though the movie seemed to drag at times, it definitely made me cringe and re-adjust myself watching it. That's just so wrong what she did! It's a good movie but not one of the best movies that I seen this year. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.

slasherman 09-19-2006 10:25 PM

.the movie reminded me of Misery (1990) ...I think Hard Candy is a little overrated..I expected more after the trailer...

the movie was good but I wouldnt watch it again. I expected it to be much better but the movie moved at a snail's pace at times.

joshaube 09-20-2006 11:44 AM

I couldn't reccomend this movie more. I've asked everyone I know to watch it. It's not the best movie of the year, but I believe it's one of them. Really well done; and the acting is just brilliant. Some may not like the pace, but its set up well. Its affective.

they arent anything alike in the least other that the fact that a female has a male prisoner.

each movie was paced differently - the motives of the females were completely different. they handled their issues differently.
the style of direction/acting/ etc was completely different.

its like saying platoon reminded you of goodfellas because someone shot a guy in each film

psycho_butthead 09-20-2006 04:14 PM

I loved this movie. I thought it was very welll made with excellent acting.

Burning in Hell 09-21-2006 09:43 AM

Excellent movie. it might be slow, but it more than makes up for it with its psychological side. And the teen girl (can't remember her name) offers a fantastic performance.

The STE 09-21-2006 12:43 PM

What are you talking about?

Neither features spaceships, machine guns or anything to do with Chinese-motif bathrobes whatsoever - that's three things the two movies have in common, and I'm sure you can hunt for more.

...have you seen "Hard Candy" ? ....the whole movie is about changing the victims mind....and make him understand what he have done is wrong....

joshaube 09-22-2006 03:25 AM

The movie isn't about changing his mind, or making him realize what he's done wrong. She even says it's not. Her only job here to to punish him. Not help him.

..it doesnt help to understand your a pedophile...to change someones mind isnt necessary about helping...that can be a punishment

urgeok 09-22-2006 05:34 AM

you know - you can draw comparrisons and find links between any 2 films no matter how unseemingly related they are.

personally - given the mood and direction of either film .. i cant see it even if i try.

they seem the same to you - then i guess thats the way it is for you.

i'm conceding on this one as i always draw comparrisons between donnie darko and napoleon dynamite (as one being the dark side of the other)

No its not about making him change his mind. She never tried to do that. She just made him realize what he did was terrible and that he deserved to be punished.

Spukky 09-26-2006 01:50 AM

Loved this movie.
One of the better movies I've seen this year.
This one is certainly gone be in my DVD collection when it's released.

...its a mind change

I took it more as...

SPOILERS GALORE IN THIS THREAD SO I'LL ALERT YOU NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T YET REALIZED.

.
.
.

"I don't want your sorries, your pleas for forgiveness, or your sayings that you'll change. I don't fucking care about that. You did what you did, and there's nothing you can do to change it."

I felt that sort of mentality. I can't argue whether it's like Misery because I haven't seen Misery. But I didn't get the sense she was trying to persuade him that it was wrong. She was simply punishing him; her goal wasn't to get him to say he was sorry, or to realize it was wrong. She just wanted to, well, make him pay.

which was kind of obvious. so what's the whole point of this discussion. the mind fuck is not in getting to see what we think is the bad guy, change his mind and become repentant, but to see this little girl basically take an evil turn. his previous actions are only questioned by her, the audience in turn is questioning this girl's actions.

bloodybill81 09-28-2006 02:08 PM

really want to see it

I can't wait to see this movie! I've heard some pretty good shit about it, and now this thread has me wanting to see it ASAP
