I'm going to break my moratorium on the General forum just to respond to this... Why is that people automatically equate Satanism with "evil?" People seem to cling to an outmoded concept of medieval "devil worship" (which doesn't actually exist, by the way) without bothering to learn what Satanism truly is. I'd be willing to bet that more than a few of you reading this currently live by Satanic principles, you just don't know it yet. Check out the official Church of Satan website if you want to learn about the real deal.

Note: I'm not a member, and I never have been. I can get behind their beliefs, but for one thing, the ritual aspect loses me, and I've just never been the joining-in type.

You're saying that it doesn't exist even within small circles of individuals who practice it on their own with no real knowledge in "Satanism"? I don't agree with you there. If somebody believes in Satan and worships him as the dark lord then they are inherently evil because the being they worship is the lord of evil correct? It doesn't matter what they do because they, in essence, worship evil. I think what isn't clear there is the definition of evil and what it really is to people. Just an opinion I guess, but the whole "devil worship" concept is there and it does exist although the people who participate that I've known are idiots who would do the things they do no matter what the cause. They simply use the devil as a justification of their stupidity. Mind the typos, I'm tired.

Yes...there are true "devil Worshipers" I know one. An older guy with an above average intelligence level. IMO.

Noctuary is correct though in that Satanism is very, very different from devil worshipping...and yes...many of us, either consiously or subconsiously walk in line with it...from the understanding I get from information that I have read, anyway.

In a nut shell, and keeping it EXTREMELY basic, Satanism boils down to this, (again, only from information that I have came across):
"Take care of yourself and your needs/wants first, everyone else is secondary." The belief in looking out for number one and to hell with numbers 2, 3 ,4 etc... Now I could be off a bit here, it's been a few years since I was looking at this information, but from what I can recall, thats basically it.

No, you're right... There are a few random diabolists who do indeed believe in and worship Satan as an actual existent entity. From what I've seen though, these people tend to be former Christians who want to rebel and flirt with the dark side, as actual Satanism has no concept of any deity whatsoever. And you're also right in that these people tend to use this as an excuse to do whatever they want regardless of the consequences and say that they were merely performing the "Dark Lord's" will. I'm thinking of Richard Ramirez, etc. here.

BTW, it's nice to actually see some people who are informed on Satanism. It does go a lot deeper than what could be conveyed without its own personal thread. Anyone care to start one?

I taught my kids that there are many different religions, any religion that they were interested in learning about, I discussed with them....I left it up to THEM to decide what religion (if any) to choose....Religion is a very personal thing, and they have minds, beliefs, and ideas of their own...

I have also taught them not to be offended by other people's views of THEIR beliefs...And not to offend others because of others' beliefs...
