Can Someone PLEASE Help Me Figure This Out?!

I have been trying for 2 years to figure out how to link music files (mp3s) to a post...I ALMOST got it...But, this only plays a little bit of it...What am I doing wrong?...What (FREE) site CAN I use to do this right?...I think this one is messing up because the file size is too big, but the upload says it can do up to 50MB at a time...So, I just don't get it...

If you know anything about this sort of thing...See if you can figure out why this isn't working...Please...

bloodrayne 03-09-2006 10:47 PM

OH...And if you DO happen to get any of this...Don't turn up your speakers/headphones too loud

bloodrayne 03-10-2006 12:00 AM

Also...If you get some of this...Don't make fun of my voice...AND, don't tell me that it's too fast, cuz I already know that...I HAD to make it too fast because I had a time limit...Buttwipes:p

I'm just using this to test with, because it's the smallest audio file I have...

AUSTIN316426808 03-10-2006 12:05 AM

It unfortunately worked just fine for me.:D

LMAO...Smarty pants...Okay...I have some questions...Ready?

Did you get a full 60 seconds?
If not...How long did it play?
You didn't get an 'error' message?
Any idea why I would get an error message?
Did it take a long time to load?
Are you on dialup, DSL, or Cable?

If this works (a full 60 seconds, without pauses) for a few people...I'm gonna try a bigger file...AND encourage you guys to sign up so we can share audio files here

There are a lot of musicians here, and I would truly love to hear some of their music...It would be MUCH easier if we could access it through this site...AND it could be added into sigs........IF it works...

We could also share some of our favorite songs from bands that everyone might not be familiar with

OR...We could use it so that we could hear each other's voices...If you have a microphone...I think that would be pretty cool.....There are particularly some accents I'd love to hear;)

If it DOESN'T work....I would still need the name of a free site where we COULD do this...

Thanks for helping out, Austin:cool:

Hmmm...Maybe the problem is that I'm on dialup...

I'm gonna try a bigger file and see what happens...Probably take me forever to upload something...

Would you be interested in signing up at filelodge.com (it only took a few seconds) and trying to upload an audio file and post it here?...Would you have time for that?..It's also an image hoster, and accepts all file types....This could really be something we could all use

bloodrayne 03-10-2006 01:11 AM

Okay...This one is a little bigger...It's 1 minute and 21 seconds...I get about half of it then I'm getting the same error message as on the first one...

We could actually play games with these...You know, something like 'guess what this soundbyte is' or something...

:o...Well..When I first did this (checking out the audio recording on the computer) I had just woken up and did the first thing that came to mind (I had just watch Gothika before I went to sleep:rolleyes: )...And with no musical accompaniment.....So, it wasn't exactly supposed to be...good...or anything...Just an audio test file

So you want me to post something right now to see if it works?

Yeah!...That would be awesome!...I'd like to see if you have any trouble uploading something...AND if I can get it from here at HDC...How long it takes...AND if a full-sized audio file will fit at that site...

I just tried the second one again...Only got about half....I'm not sure if this is gonna work for the people on dialup...

Still waiting for better suggestions

@DJ...You got ALL of the second one?

I think I did it wrong the first time. Does this one work?

Hmm..It said 1:21...So that's kinda weird...Must be something to do with the uploading process or something...I still don't understand why I can't get the whole thing...If it IS because I'm on dialup, then I am definitely gonna need a better audio hoster...

Dammit...Back to the drawing board...

Thanks for trying though...I REALLY appreciate that...

I guess now this thread will just be for ideas on where to upload mp3s effectively...

Oh...try it without the IMG tags...Click on the one that says 'music file'...or something like that...I'm gonna try it with the tags removed...

m3u?...What kinda file is that?

@Austin...I couldn't get it to play with the tags removed either...But, now I'm wondering if it's a problem with the media player...Or if I just can't play that type of file...Maybe I can only do WAVs and mp3s...

You're asking the wrong person. I don't know much about computers, I just uploaded the song onto file lodge and they gave me the link. I too have never seen a m3u.

When I click it, it plays on iTunes. Just a guess, but maybe that's the only thing it'll play on.

Ahh...that definitely makes sense.....But, the whole thing plays for you?...If so, maybe that site WILL accept a full-sized mp3....I would try it, but I KNOW it would take a very long time for me...And I have to be going in a few minutes...I'm sure I'll be trying all sorts of stuff with it later tonight...

Yeah, the whole thing plays...

Another thing I just noticed is that when I upload a file onto file lodge it turns it into a m3u. I specifically picked another file that I knew was mp3 and the link they gave me for it says m3u.

It actually converts the files?....That's strange...Both of mine came up as mp3s.....There must be more to this than we know.....lol......Obviously :D

Sorry I couldn't help, maybe someone here with a little more computer literacy can.

Oh...You helped a LOT...Now I know that it's worth actually trying to upload a whole mp3 on that site...It saved me from having to try it for no reason, which could have wasted quite a bit of time, if it didn't take it....Know what I mean?

Yeah...and one more thing...

It doesn't convert the file because another file I uploaded says mp3. I guess the couple of files I thought were mp3s actually weren't.

Thanks :) ...But, that means that YOU were able to get this, too.....I take it that means you are NOT on dialup...

And, I suppose that means that I am screwed (as far as using that site), as well as the other members here who are on dialup...

Doesn't ANYONE know of ANY place that we can link audio files (for free) that doesn't conflict with a dialup connection?

Come on guys...SOMEONE has to know something...

Am I the only one that would like to put some music on the board?

Thomasgeorge 03-11-2006 05:57 AM

I have also been trying but no luck

You could try using yousendit instead. I used to post on a board where a lot of people shared video and music files, and it always worked just fine. Not sure whether it would still work okay with dial-up though... I haven't used a dial-up connection in ages. Unfortunately, yousendit has a download limit. That is, any file you upload can only be downloaded 25 times (I think.)

Oh, that's weird...I never heard of anything like that before....Thanks for the information

stubbornforgey 03-11-2006 10:00 PM

we use SpRjukebox..
It also pops up on screen in what ever forum you add it to ..the song title/singer/
length...while your listening to it.
if somebody else has SpR they can ask
for the song by simply typing
/stubborn jukebox (name of song)
and it gets sent
Kinda kewl but kinda not cos the send
lags your comp...so i turn mine off .
