Demon Hunting Films

Is anyone a fan of demon hunting movies or tv shows. I've always loved the good vs. evil, satanic forces being hunted down movies (and shows), like Skeleton Key and Supernatural and The Exorcism of Emily Rose and was wondering if anyone else has a passion for movies like these. Or if anyone has seen this new movie Demon Hunter that released on Feb. 7th. It looks really good but I haven't had a chance to see it yet, so I was wondering if anyone has and what they thought of the movie or the cast or the story, or just any details you might have at all.

Demon hunting

Ya, I like a lot of those type of movies.Seeing as I am a catholic,I look at demons maby a bit differently than some. Not that I think demons have the kind of power the movies give them, but, I know that they are real. How? Experience.

i would'nt get my hopes up,it looks like the director's next project is a sequel to "Roadhouse" and he's coming off a string of direct to video stinkers some of which i've seen.

however there's always that outside chance that this film could be the exception.

and yes i just luv g. vs. e. movies.:)

I haven't seen Demon Hunter, and am not typically one to run out to pick up horror movies, especially those I know next to nothing about... but a friend who knows I'm a huge Stephen J. Cannell fan mentioned they'd seen this one at the store and thought i'd want to know.

This is a real departure, I think, from what Cannell normally does (he was the creative power behind Renegade, Silk Stalkings, Simon & Simon, the A-Team, and 21 Jump Street.) but he has a LOT of talent and creative juice so I'm planning to check this flick out.

darkangl2025 02-18-2006 10:17 PM

Demon Hunter seems to encompass a lot of different qualities found in movies, like Last Day and Constantine and even Saw and the Exorcism of Emily Rose. It just looks like a really creative horror flick. Has anyone seen it yet?

manicmyk 02-18-2006 11:22 PM

I think it is definitely worth checking out. It has a lot of Horror and Comic book elements and sometimes cool flicks can slip by. Truthfully thought I am a nut when it comes to stuff like this. How can you pass up a flick with Billy Drago?

LOL! You haven't shattered my hopes, just lowered my expectations... that said, going into a movie with realistic expectations can make any movie enjoyable... so, I think I'll still pick it up, just not expect something on par with "the great american novel" :)

So that makes my next question what would you put it on par with?

I am a huge fan of these demon hunting movies and TV shows. I used to love Buffy when it was on air. However, Supernatural has been great lately. I love the attitude of Dean and the relationship between the brothers. As for Demon Hunter, I watched it recently and I would recommend it. The story may seem familiar in the beginning, however as the movie progresses, it gets more suspenseful and there is a great twist. I know for sure that the DVD has a fight sequence rehearsal bonus feature on it; so if you like those kinds of things, then you will enjoy it. Have you watched anything else by Stephen J. Cannell before?

manicmyk 02-20-2006 03:22 PM

I can diig where your at. I guess I am a little crazed when it comes to watching every G vs. E flick or show. Still, I am not deterred this looks to be cool and I will be picking it up. I have seen tons of Steven J. Cannell stuff. Everyone has been exposed to something of his, I am sure.

My friends and I watched Demon Hunter late last week and it was a lot better than I expected. There are parts where the sound is kind of loud, so we ended up keeping the remote handy so we could turn it down during the Rock / Music Video sounding portions.

All in all, for my first demon hunting / g vs. e film, I liked it, and my friends will probably be able to talk me into watching another one, even though horror is not my preferred genre! :)

I'd recommend folks give the movie a chance as there is some nice stuff tucked away in there.

...well, you're certainly in the right place then :D

doc 80mph neckr 03-08-2006 09:14 AM

:) If I didn't say it before, here, I should have... my friends and I are *finally* back in the same town for the first time since college, and they've asked me to pick back up with my habit of joining them for movie night... otherwise known as a night where they pick a movie to show and give me little if any warning about what I'm in for.

They theme the nights... but rarely tell me the theme in advance for fear I will decide it's not my thing and not come. (Bad movie night should be called B-Movie from hell night!)

So, I've started getting the titles of possible movies from them in advance, and hitting the web to get nice folks like ya'll to tell me what i'm in for!

If I have a clue, then even though I'm the type to turn my head at the least little sign of blood, I'll still go and have a good time hanging with my friends. But if I don't know I'm in for a film where I'm gonna feel like I came out listening to the film rather than watching it and I expect a film where I will be glued to the screen I come out frustarted and having been unable to concentrate on the story (if there was one. :) )

It just helps to know going in if they've picked a serious pick, a light comedy, an award wining film... or one that is infamous! :)

Ya'll giving me realistic expectations for Demon Hunter, i think, has a lot to do with my having enjoyed it! :)

urgeok 03-08-2006 09:17 AM

why dont you get back at your friends ..

tell them that one night is your pick night .. and show up with Yentl.

doc 80mph neckr 03-08-2006 09:20 AM

LOL! Now that is tempting! Either that, or an Olsen Twins film!

Problem is I think they know my sense of humor well enough to expect me to pull that kinda thing on 'em. :)

I should find some title that has two films, one that sounds like their kinda thing... and a different film with the same title that would make great "turn about is fair play" material! ;)

I will give them credit though, we do always have a blast. :)

urgeok 03-08-2006 09:22 AM

just put a shit film in a good DVD case ..

like you bring over the Sin City special edition, but before hand slip a teletubbies DVD in there.

doc 80mph neckr 03-08-2006 09:23 AM

:) You are wicked! I like it!

urgeok 03-08-2006 09:28 AM

cant take credit for that ... back in the day of vinyl i had a buddy at university who switched a friends favorite record with some junk ..

he pretended to get pissed at the guy and in a fit of rage pull out the (supposedly) rare and beloved disc and smashed the hell out of it - (it had the same label .. thus the effectiveness of the prank.

i guess the guy went 10 shades of white and looked like he was going to have an attack ..

it was a great gotcha .. cant beat the old bait and switch.

Elvis_Christ 03-09-2006 02:13 PM

Haha thats awesome. You probably would've had to pull me off the guy if that happened to me :D

doc 80mph neckr 03-09-2006 03:09 PM

My friends would have murdered me for that one... of that I'm certain! :)

But tossing the olsen twins (or some equivalent) in the DVD player on them I could get away with... and in a few weeks they might even laugh about it! ;)

An alternative type of demon hunting movie you might want to check out is Frailty. I think it has Jaqauin Phoenix.
