Best villian
I haven't seen this topic yet.
Who do you think is the best villian and why? |
christopher walken in View To A Kill (Bond)
because he was truely nuts .. i like the crazy genius type. there arent many horror villians i like - they're mostly one dimentional bores. ... one exception .. chop top was pretty damn funny .. innagoddadavida baby ! |
Best villain: nice topic.
Of course, it depends whether we're looking for a villain who's just that: nasty, or an anti-hero. In the latter instance, like so many after me I'm sure, I'd have to go with Freddy Krueger. I'm not a huge fan of the Elm Street series but they had their merits. Freddy though was a very effective anti-hero franchise. As for true, evil villains, I'd be hard pressed to think of anyone worse than the sadistic Japanese commanders in Men Behind the Sun. And although not a horror, Gary Oldman was very good in The Fifth Element. |
Tim Roth makes a pretty good villain. Especially in The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover & Rob Roy.

Rutger Hauer in "The Hitcher"

Krug, if for no other reason than that he fucking carved his name into Mary's chest. That's totally one of the most dickish things I've seen in a movie.
In the same vein, the "villain" in Oldboy. When he gave Dae-su Oh the remote to his pacemaker and Oh pushed the button...I was just like "holy shit, what an asshole." I mean, literally, I said that out loud (with a smile on my face). Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West. The character its self isn't particularly better/worse than other villains, I just put him towards the top because of Fonda's fucking amazing performance. Plus, we get to see HENRY FONDA KILLING CHILDREN! That'd be like Tom Hanks playing a guy who rapes a nun to death or something. I mean, he just shot him. Holy shit. John Doe in Se7en. Spoiler warning for the next one. Leonard in Memento. I know, he's not really the "villain" of the movie, he's the protagonist, but here's my reasoning (and why there's a spoiler warning). "Teddy" didn't kill his wife. Sure, Teddy was a prick, and had him kill other peoples who ALSO didn't kill his wife, and was taking advantage of Leonard's condition to do so, but Leonard did both of these things to kill Teddy, and one could argue that Teddy was doing what he was doing out of genuine friendship to Leonard. Leonard did what he did out of spite and anger towards Teddy. So, really, Leonard could be considered just as much of a villain in the movie as anybody. |

there's two actors(that come to mind) who played assholes but not really villians.
robert carlyle-trainspotting harvey keitel-the bad lieutenant good villians: ben kingsley-sexy beast(a real bastard...but part of me admired his character) tom towles-henry: portrait of a serial killer(he played an excellent scumbag) ralph fiennes-schindler's list(hated his character's guts) gary oldman-leon(slimey and unremorseful) dwight yoakam-sling blade(c'mon a mean rotten hillbilly) eihi shiina-audition(never has the face of torture looked so good) christopher walken-true romance(he's got the gangster role nailed) alec baldwin-glen garry, glen ross(an arrogant prick you love to hate) ...and list goes on. i picked these actors because i found myself through out these various films despising(for the most part)their characters(actions).thus..in my mind they played great villians. |
