irreversable

not a horror film i know but anybody seen it? What u think?

Skaboy 02-06-2006 01:23 AM

I've seen it and I have it in my collection.

The main talk here is of the protracted rape scene and I personally think that the fire extinguisher is one of the more graphic scenes commited to celluloid.

As a film, I think Irreversible has great merit: it's a good story and telling it in reverse really makes you think. You see these normal people at the end and you know what they're headed for because you've already seen the end, at the beginning of the film.

4/5 in my book.

overrated...but some shocking scenes

noctuary 02-06-2006 06:31 AM

One of the most disturbing films I've seen. I found myself seriously considering stopping the movie during the infamous rape scene.

Creeping-Death 06-12-2006 06:18 AM

Just saw this movie last night - man, I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. The fire extinguisher scene is insane. Looks so real all being one shot (no edits, no cgi). If you're a fan of disturbing movies - you need to see this one.

Intense is a good word to sum up this film.It goes from raging speed coked up pace to sweet lovey at the drop of a hat.

PR3SSUR3 06-13-2006 06:13 AM

I wouldn't say at the drop of a hat - in fact the journey back from seething darkness to peaceful light takes the entire film.

I don't think I have seen a movie that has affected me as much as this one since my childhood. I think the first time I watched it I had a general feeling of unpleasantness for about 3 days afterwards.

Exactly - I still can't stop thinking about it..

Would you put it on par with "Last House on the Left" and "I Spit on Your Grave"?

Which one do you think is the better of all the 3, guys?

Personally, I d say I Spit on Your Grave. That movie does have a dark, surreal touch to it. But IMO, I cannot distinguish much between these 3 flicks.

Also I read somewhere that another movie called "Threading Over Dark" is in the works, due to be released soon. It has some scenes which are said to be unlike anything which has been seen in the 3 mentioned above. No idea about that one.

oops sorry. Posted twice.

i havent seen irriversable yet .. but i did see the other 2 and i think 'I spit' is far less exploitative and nasty than 'last house'

I have all 3 of these on DVD, seen them all a few times, and for me, without doubt, Irreversible was by far the most disturbing/unpleasant. By a long way.

As to which is the better film - I think Irreversible was certainly the most technically accomplished. However it was made with artistic sensibilities in mind, and can benefit from much newer production technologies than the other three.

As far as which I like the best - I would have to agree with I Spit. I am just not sure why :( I think it might be something to do with the revenge that the main protagonist metes out on her attackers. I think the crimes that the villains in these movies commit are so nasty and unpleasant that the revenge is all the more welcome. And this is the only one of the three where the victim gets to take revenge herself. However, I guess this makes I Spit the most formulaic of all three as well.

The rape scene is damn intense. However the earlier scenes (you will know them when you see them) are so brutal that I think for me it somehow lessened the impact of the rape scene - I think I was still trying to digest what had gone previously.

Despare 06-14-2006 03:05 PM

The rape scene was just shot so differently from other scenes like that. Irriversable was a good flick but I wasn't as shocked as I thought, although the

*SPOILER*

hooker with the penis was deffinatly one of those "What the hell?" moments.

Last House was pretty good but I Spit did such a good job with the revenge story. Wonder how that movie Chaos that came out in 05' is...

Amalthea 06-15-2006 12:13 AM

What about a Disney Sleeping Beauty version?!
