I can't believe it....

I decided to buy some horror movies over the weekend so I found cool, unrated copies of "Night Of The Demons" and "Squirm", but the "Sleepaway Camp" box set.... I can't believe the "Sleep" series were actually censored versions! :( Thank God I looked at the back of the covers and saw the "R" rating and hopped online to investigate it and found out they were all cut. There was one of those generic 'double DVD' package that had 4 movies, one of which was "Sleepaway Camp 1". Runtime.... 88 minutes, the box-set, 84 minutes. That's a gonna account for a good chunk of gore and violence missing. The worst cut one is part 3. I think a whopping 5 to 6 minutes was missing due to heavy trimming of the death scenes. Although it was 'included as a deleted scenes' package as a still gallery?!

i read somewhere that chains like blockbuster and wal mart were pushing for all these cut films - its retail censorship in my mind.

urgeok 01-23-2006 08:06 AM

blockbuster has christian roots ..

they had cut version specially made for them...

not sure if it still happens now or not ?

since they are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy let's hope not. i read a cool book called Veni Vidi Video about the birth of the video industry (rentals, etc.) - it was cool and made me sad at how corporate it has all become

I bought A Tale of Two Sisters at walmart.. its rated R. Was it edited some?

urgeok 01-23-2006 08:14 AM

i saw an unrated Betty Blue at walmart .. couldnt believe it.
next time i was there it had been pulled.

Umbrella Entertainment brings out excellent uncut versions aswell.

Blockbuster are scum.

The STE 01-23-2006 04:05 PM

fuck Blockbuster, Hollywood Video's the place to rent from (in-store, at least. Netflix is still #1 for rental in general)

Dude! That's just it. The "Sleepaway" set was from Anchor Bay. And it's fucked up. At least 4 minutes is missing from part 1, and over 5 minutes missing from the sequels. And the bitch of it is, part 3 offers deleted gore scenes as lame ass movie stills?!

Ehhh, I dunno.... believe it or not, one of the local Blockbusters actually has a DVD rental of "I Drink Your Blood" unrated. Yeah, threw me for a curve, too. :)

The problem is the friggin MPAA always seems to feel the need to get their dirty little fingers on all the gory horror VHS/DVD's and hack em to oblivion. :( The MPAA sucks.

Guys, any other ideas? 'Blue Underground' has nothing even close to it. Any other media companies that might carry the uncut versions, either in a set or separately?

Zero 01-24-2006 05:07 PM

there was this guy on the corner of 5th and 31st - said his name was Julio, but might've lied - he had some unbelievable uncut shit . . . tell him Benito sent you
