I am cooking food today

Yes, I am in the kitchen, today I am making pumpkin pie for some buddies, and some vegetarian chili for myself to keep in the fridge. Between these two things the kitchen will smell real nice today! I just feel like doing it. Is anyone else cooking today, and what are you cooking? I wanna know so please post--this is interesting to me--

scouse mac 11-13-2005 09:08 AM

Just made a spicy hot sausage pasta. Piece of piss to make and can be done with meat or vegetarian sausages. Delicious!

ItsAlive75 11-13-2005 09:23 AM

I'm gonna make a Jack's pizza.

...I'm sure that doesn't count.

stubbornforgey 11-13-2005 11:04 AM

ooooooooh...a good freind of mine is training to be a head chef.
Friday night he invited us over to his campus for his final assesment exam..he had to run the kitchen n do the main menu etc.
This lil fuck has my total respect from that day forth!!..
He did this thing with kumaras..(u call them yams..or sweet potatoes)

mashed with ordinary potatoes, bits of bacon, cheese, onions
n cream..rolled in bread crumbs n deepfried ..served with sour cream..
that accompanied a garlic steak and toss salad.
dessert was...peppermint cake (dunno the flashword for it) served with some damn sauce n a topping...all hand made by this guy.

entree...oh drool!!..i dunno how to pronouce the stuff he prepared.

his reviews were totally outstanding and well deserved.

The five a day rule doesn't figure too highly for you then? :)

Its the five pieces of fresh fruit/vegetables that is the minimum requirement for a healthy diet (so those boffins in the white coats say anyhow).

What the fuck? I should hope that they sucked, why combine noodles and chocolate?

cheebacheeba 11-13-2005 03:23 PM

Grey, what they call biscuits in the USA is something completely different...I assume the case in NZ in the same as it is here in AUS. Maybe someone could explain it to her.

DRY crispy noodles are great when dipped in chocolate...in fact, I've got a great recipe involving that, if anyones interested.

Today, I made breakfast...freshly thick sliced bread, cheese, some lean steak, under and over which was cooked some chopped onions, birdseye chilli, semi-crushed peppercorns, fresh garlic and ginger, some wholeseed mustard, and grape tomatoes. Slow cooked under pressure.
Served with green tea + mint infusion.

NB: I agree on the fresh fruit and vegetables, they make up the majority of my diet...not to mention, people, you really DO need them. No shit.

I usually find a way to squeeze it in if I sleep late... pI feel like I'm cheating myself if I don't eat 3 meals and then designate them their respective names.

But I'm also a neurotic ass, so... there ya go.

And, I totally vote for the biscuits!

filmmaker2 11-13-2005 06:57 PM

In case anyone was wondering, here's how it breaks down: The Pie turned out just okay, my oven has a little problem with heating evenly....so the top crust was better than the inside crust. But the puddinglike pumpkin filling gelled up nice.

The chili worked out fabulously on the stovetop; about half a gallon of chili was produced, medium spicy through the addition of two small chopped jalapenos. Yum yuuuuuummmms. It was simmered for about an hour, hour and a half, wasn't looking at the clock. Made the house smell wonderfole!

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being serious. I really wanted to know if you went to MACDonalds for breakfast, I call the McMuffins biscuits because y'know, the sausage is part of the overall food, and since its the focus of the biscuit I call it a sausage biscuit.... I don't know how you could pull the word "sarcasm" from my question, but my bad if it came off that way.

Am I the only one to think of the Bill Hicks bit about Jim Fixx?

"Im Jim Fixx, and im dead now....an I dont know what the fuck happened. I jogged every day, ate nothin' but tofu, swam 500 laps every morning - and im dead. Yul Brynner drank, smoked and got laid every night of his life - he's dead. Shit! Yul Brynner smokin', drinkin', girls are sittin' on his cueball noggin every night of his life. I'm runnin' around a dewy trackat dawn...and we're both fuckin' dead! Yul used to pass me on his way home in the morning. Big long limosine. Two girls blowin' him. Cigarette in one hand; drink in the other. One day that life's gonna get you, Yul."

stubbornforgey 11-14-2005 12:02 PM

bugga that..!!
no cooking for me today..
em having a mac donald breakfast while em slogging away at work...n for lunch i think i will tackle a subway sammich.

no mulier 11-15-2005 04:24 AM

A subway sandwich was considered quite a novelty in Manila. I sampled it once, the one with crab meat. Quite delicious.

Nowadays, if I wanted some kind of novelty, I'll cook it up in my kitchen. :)

scouse mac 11-17-2005 09:31 AM

Just in the process of making a madras, but with fried rice or just boiled? I can't decide.

It was fried rice.

filmmaker2 11-17-2005 04:57 PM

Okay, I cooked the chili thing again, here is basically how it works. It's a loose recipe that you can do by eye, as we say. Make as little or as much as you want. And vary the proportions of the ingredients as you like. It's fun! Here it is:

Take some ground beef and cook and drain it. If you want to make it vegetarian, prepare some ground meat-style soy beef. Set aside.

Peel some potatoes and cut them into nice round slices. Throw these into a big-ass skillet and fry and brown them nicely.

Add some fresh diced tomatoes and some diced green chiles to the browned potatoes. Add a good amount of both, so they're noticeable. Throw in a good bunch of chopped garlic also.

Add the ground meat and some water. Heat the whole thing up and cook it for a good long while, stirring frequently. Add water as needed to keep the potatoes under some boiling liquid. The liquid will attain a rich soup-like consistency.

When the potatoes are tender and start to break up, the dish is done! Serve with a little rice on the side.

stubbornforgey 11-18-2005 10:26 AM

hahahahahahaha!!
took me 30 minutes to get a pie and a drink from the local dairy due to my debating with the store owner..

I CAN SEE NONE OF YOU FUCKERS WENT TO SCHOOL!!!!..(silence)

i asked for the combo but only paid 2.70$
n the store owner was like ..no no no no no..'shaking his pakistani head' 2.90$..then as quietly as i could tole him..

'BANNED FROM REDHILL CORNER STORE'

pinkfloyd45769 11-18-2005 10:59 AM

All of this for 20 cents??? Damn, i'd hate to see the way you would react over $20!!!:D

cheebacheeba 11-18-2005 11:41 AM

Stubborn...yeah, I've had this kinda shit happen before, "deals" that equate to more than individual items...USUALLY if you call them out, they swallow their bullshit and let it go - Fucking LAME when they don't. You should've told him to call the police, made a big ol' incident out of it, report it to your local newspaper, ANYTHING to call him out for the ripoff anas that he is.
But hey, I guess there's not a lot to do but the whole "buyer beware" thing...there's a lot of bullshit goin' on, even in your supermarkets.
