Loooong drives
 

I'm going back to Iowa in a few hours, and with the road construction and rain it should be a 4 hour drive. I usually just put cd's on, but that gets pretty old after a while.

What do you guys do on long road trips (either by yourselves or with others)?

I ask because I need ideas and we need new threads.

I just went on a 4 hour road trip to Steele, Missouri...and thank christ there was halfway decent conversation, or I'd have gone nuts. We hadda leave at 6am, and I was so sleepy I forgot my cd player:(
Last year my friend and I took a 4-5 road trip to Chicago, and we had fun just yacking and listening to music..Oh, and playing the Slug Bug game, and making fun of rural Illinois. We're going back this year, and it'll prolly be the same deal...cept this year I got this awesome game that reads your mind..I plan to do some major annoying with that thing.

When I'm all alone I just turn the radio way up, and sing with it.

Not that it's really relevant...but anyways...

The drive between NSW and Victoria is very nice and scenic.
Multiple routes can take you through either snow, mountain, or heavily forrested areas. Nice long drive, a lot of cool diners in between...cool whichever route you take.

There's also a little hippy town up north from me...up past the touristy location of "byron bay", around 6 hours drive from here, it's called Nimbin. The govt kinda swept it under the rug so to speak...it's like little amsterdam. For real. I've only been once, but it's like smokers cafes, weed getting sold on the street, hash, cookies, salvia divinorium, wormwood, but yeah...mostly about the weed, and shrooms are seasonal.
The whole town is a trip...so chilled out and in the middle of miles of nowhere...naturally, their food ROCKS too...and everything, including accomodation, is dirt cheap.
Great scenic road trip, great desitination.

If I travel around half an hour north, there's this cool place called the Galstone Gorge. Basically it's a long winding road that goes DEEP down into a valley, the winds back up the other side, but you can get out in a few places along the way...at the deeper points, it's pretty much subtropical rainforrest, very cool, inspiring.

I guess I should mention that Sydney also has some awesome beaches...and they just keep getting better around the coastal areas, pure clear water at most, they smell great, and yeah...I think our beaches rock.

Scaring other drivers is always a fun little time killer:D

I like to look at drivers until they wave at me. My friend's are always like "Who was that?" I should start thinking up back stories for these people :D

I'll find out this weekend. I've got a 12 hour drive to Philly to pick up an actress, take her to Charlotte for some pick up shots, return her to Philly and come home. :(

I drove from la to northern idaho once like 26 hours straight. I just listen to cds and old amway tapes. amway tapes really suck up the miles. you get tranced into their marketing schemes

I masturbate whilest listening to the Jurassic park soundtrack and drive with one Knee, wearing 3D glasses and shouting Office Space quotes at the passerbys

So you get arrested a lot, huh?

Nah.... cops are so damn stupefied that they just tell me to put on some pants and be on my way

What do you do once you get out of the drive way though? ;)

I just returned today from a long drive...5 hours north, and the same five hours back...I fucking HATE that drive..

But...It's a hell of a lot better than the 16 hours we gotta drive to get to Houston...I'm REALLY glad that I don't have to do THAT one anymore

I don't do too well with long drives. If I'm the one driving, I tend to get that highway hypnosis thing, especially at night. As long as I'm with someone else that I can trade off with, I'm fine though. The best time-killer for me is to read. A lot of people get motion sickness when reading in a car though...
