I need a Nerd
My sound card isn't working for some reason. It was fine 15 minutes ago, but now it says it's not installed.
help :( |
.

Did your sound card come with your computer? And if it did, do you have the startup disc that came with the computer?

try rebooting

It's so ironic. This is one of the few nerd things I could actually help someone with. One of my few chances to talk nerdy to someone!

*cough drivers
start>settings>control panel>system>hardware tab>device manager get a list of hardware installed on you machine, any errors? anything in the sound section? |
btw, a Nerd just refers to someone who's unpopular (usually for asthetic reasons). You need a Geek.

I highly recommend the P2P program "Ares". You can find it on Download.com |

ME TOO !
I NEED HELP TOO !
this problem is driving me fucking crazy : my boyfriend's computer for some reason has no sound. it has a program on it called guitar pro on which we can hear the sound perfect, but for some reason if we try to watch a movie or listen to music... nada ! please, please, please computer geeks ( and i say this affectionately )... help me before i rip my hair out ! |
I believe Guitar Pro is a MIDI based program (I have it somewhere) and it wouldn't affect WAV sounds such as movies.

it never hurts to update/reinstall them or - make sure the cable is still plugged in from the CD player to the soundcard/motherboard .. |
it says that everything is functioning correctly. i have no fucking idea what he did.
how would i reinstall the drivers without the installation cd ( idiot lost it ) ? anything i can download off the net that would be compatible with windows xp ? for the trolls who would say this isn't the place to be asking this, know that i couldn't give a flying fuck :) |
Quote:
you can reinstall the drivers with the 'live update' option instead of disks... you'll get the latest version that way. If there isnt anything on the Windows site you may have to find the model and make of your card (it's printed on the card usually) and try to find the manufacturers home page (support area) i hope thats not the case - it's doable but it can be a pain in the ass - soundcards and modems are notoriously pricks to install .. |
oh i really hope that's not the case. i'm already in a pissy mood because of this crap ! thanks for your help urge.
i can't even watch house of 1,000 corpses like i wanted... fais chier  |

or some crook at a PC service place will rob you blind doing 5 minutes worth of work to get it going. if it doesnt you can PM me .. i can give you a list of last-ditch-effort things to try .. |

Bah, why did it seem to think the sound card was uninstalled anyway? I think it just wanted to piss me off.
Why do computers hate me so? :( |
