Anyone here ever make a coffin ?
I lost the number of the guy I talked to about making me one once before. I'm not King Woodshop, but figure it can't be too hard to do. Anyone ?

Apparently when the sarcasm rains around here, we all got wet.
Getting one the old fashioned way would be too much work (esp to clean out the inside). I am not burying a hamster/bird/kitten/midget/bunny etc. I need to make as a prop for a film. I figured tonight would be a good night to get started on it since I'm not getting anything else done right now. CK |
If you don't mind forkin' over thirty bucks...

Me thinks it would depend on how simple or extravagent you want it to look.
A simple pine box type coffin, such as those seen in spagetti style westerns, would be quite simple to make. One of a modern standard I think would be quite difficult. Especially if your not a carpenter. I would think though that a qualified cabinetmaker could build one for you. Perhaps you may be able to rent one from a local mortcian. Seriously. |

Thanks, guys. Between these and plans I got in a PM, I should be all set. And I thought I'd get nothing done today :D The inlay patterns on the sides add a real nice touch to it. I wouldn't have thought of it.

I've never considered making a coffin...But, I HAVE seriously considered buying one...For a very simple reason...
I HATE TO WASTE MONEY!!! What's the point in spending a couple thousand dollars on something to bury in the ground?...I would rather get some use out of it first... Use it as a coffee table (sans zombie :p)... Use it to store things in...Maybe blankets or keepsakes...Then when you die, they can take all of your things out of it and keep them to remember you by, then just throw your dead body into it:D Hell...Maybe even sleep in it...They put all that padding in it, and a pillow too!...I'm sure I won't be able to appreciate all of that when I'm DEAD... Anyway...My point is...I'd rather use it for SOMETHING, than just waste it for nothing... |

I know someone who will likely have no use for one in about 2 months :D
On the subject of getting use out of it, they have the official KISS one. Goddamn. Is there anything they won't put their logo on and shill ? To think I wanted to be Gene Simmons when I grew up... <sigh>. What a disappointment he is to me now. CK |

Why not make a KISS cooler then (if they haven't already) ? Because they can charge $10,000+ for the coffin. Putting beer in it is just a way for them to justify actually buying one. Pathetic.

Plus, KISS has their name on practically everything known to man, it was only a matter of time. I'm waiting for the KISS urn. |

A friend and I made one for the movie I made earlier this year, nothing fancy, it was really easy.....
measured the guy who had to bust out of it measured and marked the wood, sawed the peices out and all we used it for was a shot of a the guy breaking out of it so we just super glued it together. |
Mine just gets approached by the lovely having a nightmare and the vampire in it pops eyes open and grabs her arm. Nothing amazing. It all comes down to pacing and shot selection to make people jump.
CK |
If that's all then quality super glue would probably hold up just fine as long as you make it just wide enough so that his arm wont run into it on the way up.
I'm don't strongly recommend that you use it just giving you the idea in case you're on a crappy budget(as I was) or other ideas fail. |
buhhh- jettt ? What's that ? LOL nah, I just need it for one freaky looking scene. As long as it gets to location in one piece, I'm good to go.
