No Metal

Having been to many horror forums I've noticed alot, maybe even most, of people on them like Metal music. There is nothing wrong with this, I just don't like it at all and I'm wondering if anyone else here is not into Metal.

urgeok 06-30-2005 06:40 AM

i think the desperate marriage between metal and horror is hilarious myself ... (well, sometimes hilarious - oft times tiresome)

i dont mind metal but it is hardly something i would limit myself to.
I like a broad variety of everything - as do a lot of older people.

by the way - some of the most effective moments in horror movies are when quiet classical music is playing as a contrast to the horrific events on screen.

death metal blasting during carnage in a horror movie is a pretty worn cliche - it becomes a parody of itself immediately.

bloodrayne 06-30-2005 07:35 AM

I like Metal quite a bit, mostly industrial underground...BUT...I also like a wide variety of other things, too...

AUSTIN316426808 06-30-2005 09:17 AM

I don't really like one genre of music any more than the next

ItsAlive75 06-30-2005 09:32 AM

The only metal I like is Atreyu, and I'm not even sure if that's considered metal...

But yeah, I like punk.

newb 06-30-2005 10:24 AM

Fishfuck by Gwar:
Fishfuck, baby
Gonna fuck you with a fish [X2]
Gonna take a rivercarp and ram it up your butt
You slut You whore Why are you my Mom?
Fishfuck, baby
Gonna fuck you with a fish [X2]
Gonna take a moa-moa and swim it up your butt
You slut You whore Why?

never heard any but one of their songs, but their lyrics are fucking hysterical

ItsAlive75 06-30-2005 01:19 PM

Some more delicious Gwar lyrics: HAM ON THE BONE

Ham on Ham, Ham on the ham on the ham on
Now my hand grasp
my throbbing root and shan't unclasp
Go to the head of the class
as I madly stoke my flaccid shaft
Ham Ham Ham Ham - Ham on the Bone

I think its about eating a delicious ham dinner.

The STE 06-30-2005 02:04 PM

while "Gonna fuck you with a fish" puts Fishfuck way up there, I still think B.D.F. has the funniest/most obscene lyrics for any Gwar song

HaHa...Dustin absolutely LOVES GWAR...And that's one of his all-time favorites of theirs...lol

BTW...Some of you 'older guys'...GWAR is SUPPOSED to be funny...So is ICP...

The name 'GWAR' is an acronym for 'God What An Awful Racket';)

What punk bands are you into?

Deposable 07-01-2005 12:02 AM

I wanna slap you right in you're face for that diss against Letterman. I guess you're a big Leno fan

I HATE METAL! well... I hate 90% of music, I am a music nazi.

The whole death, blood, darkness, anger, melodramatic bullshit is overplayed and un-original.

I am a sucker for a good message and a good melody. I want music too be unique and different, metal is not. Its all the same. People anger at life because God gave them a small weiner. hahaha

I think Alice In Chains, T00L, and (OLD) S.O.A.D, Ultra Spank were unique and creative. probably the last good metal band.

Hate_Breeder 07-01-2005 04:21 AM

FUCKIN METAL ALL THE WAY

Not cheesey metal though. I mean like Gorgoroth, and Black Dahlia Murder, Heaven Shall Burn, Twilight Ophera, The Kovenant, Ministry, Slayer, Unanimated, Dark Funeral, Bleeding Through, and of course Burzum

I don't believe so.I could be mistaken.

As far as Letterman, i'm not much on late night TV.

I never really thought of Ministry as a Metal band, more Industrial. However I haven't heard any of their latest albums. For me they started sucking after Psalm 69. Quess that's what happens after you quit doing smack....Ministry that is, not me.

Hmmm...Alot of the 'industrial' stuff that I listen to is a bit heavy on the guitars (but, I'm a guitar freak, so that's what I tend to lean toward)...However...Industrial is DEFINITELY heavier on the effects...Plenty of distortion, slides, some techno stuff added in sometimes, usually a pretty good mix of 'techniques'...They ARE pretty similar overall...

Elvis_Christ 07-01-2005 05:49 PM

A lot of modern industrail music is definatley guitar driven and is better for it because it doesn't end up sounding so dated. I used to really enjoy the Godflesh album Streetcleaner.

 ^ not metal and never was ^ Music Nazi? You just sound ignorant about music at times. You shouldn't discredit a genre of music you know nothing about.....

I haven't listened to many modern bands (apart from local gigs and a few grindcore bands) and mainly listen to punk these days but you can't beat bands like Obituary (amazing structures and tones) & Death (started modern death metal) that shit was just as innovative and important as Sabbath...... and as was mentioned before you can't go past Pantera. Reinventing The Steel has some amazing work riff wise on it - the intro to Revolution is My Name comes to mind - top that Mr Iommi!

What about Cowboys From Hell?...The guitars in Cemetery Gates blow me away:cool:

Elvis_Christ 07-01-2005 06:05 PM

Awesome stuff for sure. I really like Domination off that album the breakdown and solo in that song kick my ass.

NO KIDDING!!!

OH..But what about Nine Inch Nails 'Perfect Drug' for some wicked guitars?

And have you heard any Opeth?...The way they mix the accoustic with the electric in the Blackwater Park album (ESPECIALLY in 'Harvest') makes it almost haunting.....I LOVE the 'feel' in that one

Dammit, I love guitars...lol

Elvis_Christ 07-01-2005 07:52 PM

Yeh they are pretty cool. I used to be a massive NIN fan and have been meaning to check out their new album for old time's sake.

Nah I haven't heard any Opeth. I was looking at some of their LPs the other day and they looked interesting. I might have to give them a day in court.

Opeth is one of my favorite metal bands. Check out their album "Damnation", it is all acoustic/ undistorted and some nice vocals. I used to be into black metal, listened to Emperor, Graveworm (still good), Mayhem and Burzum. Darkthrone, all that shit. Now i really don't like it very well.

Mostly i listen to psychobilly or at least things i can dance to. Bella Morte, and Rozz William's Christian Death are two great deathrock outfits. I like pretty much everything, even rap and country... two very underrated genre's in my opinion.

Death metal and horror seem to fit together. Listen to some Grindcore sometime, it's even more of a match for the gore obsessed. Pig Destroyer is okay, Anal Cunt is terrible and great.

When have you sold out a club? or sold a enough CD's too pay your rent? or have people wearing you're bands T-shirt

My music opinion is stabborn, not ignorant. Ignorant would mean I would have never have listened too metal before and couldn't list any reasons for my dislike of metal bands but yet still talk shit about them.

Hate_Breeder 07-02-2005 02:02 AM

WTF?!?!? Isnt Pantera considered industrial?

Yes. Industrial tends to have more electronic elements like keyboards and drum machines. Also most Industrial is light on guitars.

Pig Destroyer has a LOT of amazing, wicked lyrics....Unfortunately, you can't hear them to appreciate them because their 'music' and 'singing'(growling/grunting) are so horrible...

I absolutely LOVE this one, but I don't listen to the actual song...I got rid of it...Couldn't hear the words over the 'noise' anyway...Such a shame:

Junkyard God...by Pig Destroyer

My knuckles are bleeding on your front door
and these flowers are wilting in the rain.
They were for you and now they are for no one.
They are irrelevant as mercenaries in times of peace.
They are smoke twisting off the lips of a movie star.
Here is a boy with paper skin who longs to touch the girl of broken glass.
She loves it when he wears his skin like that.
In tatters.

I've never actualy looked at the lyrics much. It's just energetic, but i did like those lyrics you posted. They were alright for grindcore.

Industrial metal: KMFDM, Bile, Beherit, The Kovnant
Industrial: Vnv Nation, Skinny Puppy, Wumpscut

Alice in Chains is grunge more than anything, definately not industrial. I'm not trying to be a douche, but damn, they are as far away from industrial as you can get. Music genre's get annoying and confusing anyway.

Agreed...My daughter and I were just trying to give a good definition to 'Nu-Metal'...I told her that it seemed to be more metal/pop to me (Linkin Park)...She said she felt it was more metal/rap (Slipknot, Limp Biskit, Korn)...So...Yeah...the subgenres DO tend to get confusing...

And I urge you to check out some of Pig Destroyer's lyrics...They are all at DarkLyrics.Com...You may be surprised :)

I don't agree with Pantera being called industrail  there's nothing industrail about them at all and Tool and Alice In Chains? I'd consider them rock band nothing to do with metal.

But yeh subgenres are confusing.... I don't get what the fuck ppl are talking about at times.

Well...Whatever ya wanna call 'em...I will still always put Pantera, Alice In Chains, and Tool in the same category...I can throw Nine Inch Nails in there sometimes, too :)

And..I love them all......"A rose by any other name"...;)
