terrifying bits in kids movies

Hello, I'm new. I was thinking last night about what the most scary bits in children's films are:

I'd gave to go for the boat ride in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

What about you guys?

Well, yeah, any chick that would live with seven dwarfs.....that is kind of a given....

I have to go with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory also.....in fact, Gene Wilder just flat out creeped me out all the way through that movie, to be honest. Oh and the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz are pretty out there.

Disney's cartoon vision of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow still makes me nervous. In fact, most of the classic Disney villains have their scary moments in their movies. I still think Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty is one of the best villains ever.

Also, does anyone remember Return to Oz? that whole movie has a creepy vibe to it. or the Dark Crystal or the Secret of Nimh? or the cartoon version of Watership Down? all those are fairly scary, in their own ways.

Yeah, I know...the mental hospital escape, the wheelers, the bitch that swapped her heads...for disney, back THEN, it was a little messed up.

Uh, the Iron Giant...The part where the giant went all war-machine was kinda hardcore...

The villain from thundercats was kinda scary?

I know there's a lot more...but yeah, I'm sure most are drawing a blank on this one.

Those dancing puppets who took their heads off in "Labyrinth" freaked me out as a kid.

In fact, that whole damn movie scared me.

I was still little when Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out. That movie terrified me, especially when...who was it...Christopher Loyd ((?)) became a cartoon...eyes popping out and what not...Was that really a kids movie? I know Gremlins scared me but I'm not sure about being old enough to watch that either. Or we could go with the movie that scared me for the better - Nightmare Before Christmas.

Heh, I'm back again. My computer's browser died for a while there.

Labyrinth and The Peanut Butter Solution are kind of creepy.

Shade 06-25-2005 06:19 PM

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Return to Oz...maybe that was on purpose...I also remember watching some cartoon with a goat that was different from all the other goats. It was a special goat. So they killed it...Actually I think it commited suicide by walking out into the tundra...I mean, clearly that goat didn't have a chance out on the frozen tundra! What kind of lesson did I learn there?

What does everyone find so creepy about Labyrinth? It's still to this day one of my favorite movies of any kind....I didn't even find it scary when I was 4:confused:

Shade 06-25-2005 10:29 PM

I loved the Labyrinth when I was little and I still love it now. Sexy, sexy David Bowie with his pants...A lot scared me when I was little but I can't say that movie was included...

I was just refering to bowies pants and what Ive read about them here at hdc. When I was little the junk yard scene would make me sad but thats only cause I thought she would never make it home.

orangestar 06-26-2005 11:36 AM

I find it funny that his genitalia is so blatantly obvious to me now, but as a little kid I didnt notice.

The Chilly Down scene was always scary to me as a kid, but the movie as a whole remains one of my favorites of all time.
