ok now to save this thread you can say your top ten scariest moments or scariest movies. my moments are:
1: Wait Until Dark: When the movie is almost over and audery hepburn has stabbed alan arkin an can't open the door so she mutters "the window" so you think she's safe and the movie is about to be over, then out of nowhere alan arkin jumps out from a darkened room and leaps onto her. i went six feet in the air and my friend shemica covered her mouth as she spat out pop.

2: Audition: the reason it's lower this time is because it doesn't have a certain scene that's scarier than wait until dark but the whole movie is scarier. The scene i would pick is her vomiting into a bowl and feeding in to the guy she has dismembered.

3: Carrie: i wasn't scared but, only because i listened to the comentary of another movie mention it. but from what i have heard i am putting it here.

4: Misery: she F#!%ing hit his foot with that hammer.

5: The shining: The "here's johhny" moment but only because shelly duvall portrayed fear that transended to the viewer.

6: Cujo: When cujo jumps on the screen on the opposite side you think he will. you think he'll go for the mother but he goes for the window.

7: When a Stranger Calls: When the police say "jill we've traced the call... it's coming from the upstairs phone, we need you to get out of the house as soon as possible." my eyes got as big as carrie's and i had to hold myself as she tried to get across the house unnoticed.

8: Halloween: i want to say two for this one. The moment at the end where you think everything is alright then you see him get straight up. it wouldn't be nearly as scary if he had his back a little arched, the fact that it was completely straight somehow made it creepier. but anyway as he gets up your like, "noooo.. look behind you run!!!!" The other moment is when michael is in the ghost sheet and the girl is like f@#$ you and makes a call and the chase scene music plays as he slowely comes toward her without her knowing scared me because it's kind of like those separation moments except she didn't know he was coming.

9: Freaks: the ending chase scene was one of the most suspenseful hollywood has ever produced.

10: Friday 13th: I hate to put this movie on my list but the opening scene is scary because you can see it through ms. voorhees's eyes and you see the fear of the girl just throwing those boxes trying to stay alive genuinly scared me.

I can't do moments because nothing has ever just flat out scared me in any one paticular film, there have been a number of horror movies that have creeped me out but none have scared me.


as far as the scene you picked from Wait Until Dark I thought it was predictable, effective and exceptionally directed but predictable.

are you on crack how is it predictable. it's in a movie that's not about jump moments. i first saw it on a bravo countdown. i was like what movie is this. i was thinking how is this scary then alan arking jumps and i was like oh my $h!t some guy with a knife has just jumped. my bowel system came out my (Y) <-- thong lol. anyway my bowel system came out my @$$ i got so scared.

If you see it for the first time the way you did with just that specific moment then I guess it could make someone jump but the first time I saw it I was watching the movie and when that paticular part came I knew what was about to happen.

I don't find films scary... I watch them to heighten my enjoyment of horror.

so wait do you get scared by horror books or games

books no, Doom 3 & Clive Barkers Undying Pc games both made me jump quite a lot... but I wouldn't go as far as saying they scared me.

did you play resident evil 4

the only console I own is an N64, and it's in the loft. I may wait to see how the next gen consoles perform.

get an xbox 360 it has a game called gears of war. it's a mixture of hollywood action films and asian horror films such as ringu, the eye, and Ju-On

I hate this movie with a passion.





And i didn't think it was scary at all, just stupid.

What did you hate about it?

I'm kinda in the same boat as a few others here. I have yet to see a movie (since I was six) that out right scared me. There are a few that had moments that actually made me jump though:

The Exorcist; The quick one-two second flash of the "demon" during Karras' dream sequence.

Jaws; When the severed head bobbed through a hole in the boat while Hooper was scuba diving checking out a wrecked boat.

Event Horizon; When Sam Neills wife appeared beside him in a dark sequence while in the maintenance shaft.

I know this is real weak, but for the life of me, I can't remember any others at the moment. They may come to me.

Ohh, and for the record, Doom 3 had a few spots that made me jump as well.

Few films actualy scare me, but their concepts are often scarry.

From scarriest to least scary of the top ten:
1.Trillogy of Terror 2 (the puppet thing robbed me of many hours of sleep when i was young, even if this whole movie is a bit cheesy)
2.Nightmare on Elm St. 2 (again, loss of a lot of child-sleep)
3.The Exorcist (part where she's crab walking down the stairs)
4.Hellbound Hellraiser 2 (horrifying concept)
5.Last House on the Left (really this movie was just extremely saddening to me)
6.Alien 2 (just because of the facehugger skittering around when Newt tries to sleep)
7.Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the first, origional one. It's got very practical camera angles with not a lot of the suspensful music overdub which makes the scene where leatherface smacks the kid with a hammer unpleasently bizzar and macabre. Like "What... did... did that just happen? Holy crap, that's fucked up.")
8.Creepshow 2 (the second story about the thing in the water was very creepy)
9.The Hills Have Eyes (crazy ass cannibles raping women and trying to eat babies. Not really scarry just horrific and disturbing)
10.The Beyond (the main zombie in this is really terrifying. if i saw it in my house i'd piss my pants)

A lot of people will probably disagree with me on almost every one of those, but to hell with it. They scared or had an impact on me.

The only literature that has frightened me are stories by H.P. Lovecraft. Mainly "The Lurking Fear". Check it out.

Nice list, I strongly agree with you on many of those, mostly The Exorcist crab walking scene. Holy shit, I was scared to look at stairsets for weeks after.

Haha, yes. I was 13 when i first saw that movie and it still had the "oh crap... i really could sleep with the lights on tonight, couldn't i?" impact on me.

i need some help with Wait Until Dark

is this worth renting? it sounds good and stuff, but what exactly is it about, what year is it? etc.

Strange thing happened. I went to look at my dvds to respond to this question and I realized something. That out of the 100+ horror movies i own i find only Ju-On and Ringu to be truly terror inducing. Plenty are DISTURBING but few are truly scary.

1 Jaws1-3- I saw the 3rd one when very small, and my mom told me sharks dont attack unless you mess with them, a few years later I saw a little boy die Alex style on the Oregon Coast about 3 feet away from me!

i was replying to bwind because Phantasm is my favorite film and his most hated .. its a little thing we share.

How the fuck can you hate Phantasm :confused: its a classic. I just got the Tall Man figure..... it was a bit shoddy but its still pretty awesome!

a lot of critics will say it's a mess of a film .. but a very watchable and enjoyable mess ...

I think it's great fun ...

A lot can depend on your frame of mind when you first see a movie though .. or there might be something - or a style that
just rubs you the wrong way .. i can see Phantasm rubbing people the wrong way .. its the ultimate dreamy 'style over substance' film ... and a lot of people dont like that.

i like that style a lot .. with the exception of The Beyond .. one of those movies everyone loves but i hate ..

so .. there's no figuring it out i guess .. it's whatever presses your personal buttons - for better or worse ..

Yeh I hear ya. It is a very confusing kinda film narativley but it makes up for it visually and the incoherence gives it a nightmare quality. Great characters too you find yourself attached to them because the are really geniune and likable guys. I really dug what they did with so little budgetwise. This film looks amazing for the budget they had.
Did you pick up the Tall Man acton figure yourself dude?

I thought the Beyond was a brilliant film but I've struck a bunch of people that hate it with a passion. I liked it a lot more than House By The Cemetery and Zombie plus it had a lot more happening in it than City of The Living Dead. My favorite Fulci film I've seen so far.

The New Nightmare Freddy Krueger looks mean and the Leatherface is a acurate depiction of him in the original film. A little fake blood here and there and these things look amazing.

the little guy looks pretty funny :)

i'll have to hunt that one down ..

i have the 1st 3 sets of mcfarlane movie maniacs - complete but i stopped getting them after that.
