remakes
opinions please what is your favourite remake ever made
My personal one is the thing |
I really, very much, strongly disagree with most remakes...but I liked The Amityville Horror and Dawn of the Dead remakes...
|
Amityville. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, The Thing, House On Haunted Hill, Cape Fear, Texas Chainsaw Massacre are not too bad
I guess it depends on how good the original fairs by todays standards |
The Thing: Probably the best remake of any Genre that I can think of.
Phantom of the Opera: The original with Lon Chaney Sr. is and always will be the best, however, I did like Herbert Loms version of it very much. Dracula: Bela's a classic, but Christopher Lee runs circles around all others. Ther are others, but I'm on a tight schedule. |
I won't state my opinion on remakes because I have already ad nauseam, but I like several. Cronenberg's remake of The Fly is one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite. I also really enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead remake, I couldn't believe how much I liked that movie. Cape Fear was a good one. I'm sure there are several more, but I can't seem to think right now.
Typos! |
The Thing and Night of the Living Dead are my favourites, Dawn of the Dead was decent but in MY OPINION The Amityville Horror is the worst ever. It makes the original look like an Oscar nominated movie.
|
Definatley Carpenter's The Thing. I really like Tobe Hooper's Invaders From Mars and Scorcese's Cape Fear.
|
FUCK!!! totally forgot about Cronenberg's remake of The Fly. Awesome remake totally up there with The Thing.

Watch out !!!
Looks like everything is gonna get a makeover. It certainly is good news for the DVD industry which loves selling & raking up previously Dead and buried movies in 'new dvd format' to the young and curious of us . |

i'm not a fan of it but it was his biggest commercial success (kiss of death for the hard core horror fan i guess) his Invaders from Mars was brilliant - a ton of fun .. great performances - James Karen is the best ! You could tell the whole cast was devoted to the spirit of the film .. and it was suprisingly faithful to the origional .. |

(he had a hell of a time getting his plane off the gound !) richard donner has been overshadowed by the speilberg name as well ... everyone thinks of the Goonies as a spielberg film ... it wasnt .. |
Remakes are starting to piss me off. Sure, I have nothing against the idea of them, I even have 1 on the Best Horror Movies list in my sig [The Fly]. But the thing that pisses me off is that theres so damn many nowadays. No originality left, so they take the easy way out. Almost gaurnteed money, and not as much work as coming up with your own idea.
I do enjoy most remakes that Ive seen however, and the 99 version of House on Haunted Hill is one of my favourite movies ever. Dawn of the Dead was O.K.... and Amittyville was pure garbage. |
house on haunted hill was good as was 13 ghosts. I believe the same company that remade them remade ghostship, what the hell happened there(although the opening was world class) do you know of any other projects from this company
|
I fucking hate Speilberg (granted I love his early work like Duel, Jaws, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind) almost as much as a hate Ron Howard...... burn in hell Ritchie Cunningham.
|
Why did everyone hate the Amityville remake? It gave me the smae feeling the original did, except added more scares. I loved it. Did ANYONE else?!
|
must agree i thought amityville was a pure frightfest from start to finish

I hate remakes. And I won't support them. Grow some balls and write something original. |

So you just don't like anything mainstream, am I right? |

13 Ghosts is okay; I love the make-up and it really is a fun film. Trite and completely ridiculous as it is....LOL....and the original was actually worse....I never thought I would feel that way. But the original was just so bad it was hilarious.....:p |
