Things that bug you the most in a Horror movie..

For me It's when they run upstairs. And when they scream or cry loud when there hiding. Why don't they just say here I am Kill me!! God Just shut the fuck up!!

ShankS 06-02-2005 03:56 AM

yep, loads of em....

-screaming out loud
-going out front and leaving door wide open
-walking about in the woods in underwear...not that I complain :p,
-leaving kitchen knives in the most prominent position for a burgler.
-being chased and get in the car, realising they aint got any keys.
-walk about in the dark trying to hide, whilst shining a torch as bright as a fucking light house.

there's more...

btw amk how you been? glad and is nice to see you posting :)

I'm doing alot better. I'm on Zoloft For my Bi-Poler. It looks like it's helping!! I will be posting everyday now. Thanks for asking!! ;)

Vodstok 06-02-2005 04:17 AM

Yay! She's back :)

what i hate:

Tking down the badguy with a half-assed attempt at injuring/killing them (usually something that wouldnt incapacitate a normal person...) and the Turning their fucking back on them, assuming they are dead.

In my horror movie, when Michael Meyers gets knocked down and lays there, Jamie Lee Curtis cuts his fucking head off and tosses it out the window. No sitting up menacingly at the end and disappearing.

allmykids 06-02-2005 04:33 AM

Oh there's another one I hate............. When they try to fit through something that's to small. Like in SCREAM when she gets stuck half way through the doggy door in the garage!! LOL DUMB ASS!!

allmykids 06-02-2005 04:42 AM

Oh By the way I bought a three pack dvd and I already had one of them. It's DONNIE DARKO So Who ever Wants it PM me with your address And I will send it to you. It's never been opened. First one to respond Gets it!! :D That right FREE!! ;)

Preacher 06-02-2005 05:18 AM

I hate it in hollywood horrors when the bloody makers decide that they have to explain every fuckin thing about the bad guy / monster to the point that it isn't scary any more.

Why cant somethin exist just because it does??

Vodstok 06-02-2005 05:26 AM

Because they take film critics to heart rather than the viewing public, and a great number of critics want to know why.

I try very hard to only explain things that need explaining in the stories i write. Maybe i'll get to make movies someday....

I agree with you 100% on this... Part of the beauty of Alien and Predator were that you dont know where they are from or what they want, they are just there and people die.

Oddly enough, Scream said it best when Skeet Ulrich mentions that its scarier when you dont know why.

Fear of the Unknown, the oldest and most powerful fear there is.

Something else i hate: When atmosphere and story take the back seat to gore. Gore isnt scary, its gross. Its only acceptable when it's obvious that scary wasnt the goal, IE, Dead alive(aka Braindead)

Preacher 06-02-2005 05:30 AM

Damn right.

One of my fave films, The Thing is cool cos its just there. They dont even know why or how. It just is.

urgeok 06-02-2005 05:47 AM

i hate all of the cliches where people do crap and things dont work as they would in normal life situations because they are needed to build up 'suspense'

it's just lazy cheap ass filmmaking. a talented writer/filmmaker knows how to build up suspense by keeping things believable and tense .. without resorting to worn old cliches.

unfortunately in the genre of horror ..there are very few decent filmmakers - most of them are pathetic hacks.

Vodstok 06-02-2005 05:51 AM

Exactly why i cant watch a lot of them, also why i dont bother watching sitcoms.... What is the point of watching something when you can accurately predict the entire plot, ending and all, in the first 5 minutes?

Incidentally, if anyone wants to comment on the predictability/use of old conventions in my stuff, there ar elinks in my sig. i would appreciate the feedback.

fuck ! dont even get me started on sitcoms.
they are the reason why i stopped watching TV over 20 years ago.
garbage shit TV - an insult to the intelligence (if you have any)

the little i've been exposed to lately is even worse ..
why is it that people find sexual innuento so risque when they hear far worse at work every day. I wonder all the time how unfunny and unimaginative someone would have to be to thing ANYTHING in a sitcom is even remotely funny.

i love clever, origional, well made comedies ...
you wont find that in a sitcom (unless you consider Fawlty Towers a sitcom - i dont)

sorry if i stepped on any toes but thats exactly how i feel.

i hate that shit ..

Vodstok 06-02-2005 06:05 AM

There is the occasional sitcom that breaks the mold. Married with Children was one. It was horribly predictable, things were going to end up shit, you knew that every time. it was how they did it that was great.

News radio was just odd, in a good way. Jimmy James is my hero, and since he played Milton in Office Space also, Stephen Root is a god to me. Patrick Warburton was also great as Johnny Johnson... Freindly, charaismatic, loveable and thoroughly evil :)

Back, on subject...

"Too Creative" Kills. Probably why I am not a huge slasher fan. I cant stand situations where some completely off the wall rube goldberg machine is necessary for the kill. Final Destination was the only movie i haev seen so far where this one was actualy done well, and as it turns out, necessary. I absolutely loved it when the teacher got killed.... Thatw as the most incredible coincidence i have ever seen.

Another one: The movie establishes a theme, then deviates from it regularly. Example: Urban Legend....

there's a difference between being Too creative - and simply being full of shit..

i dont like them either .. the complicated serial killer with superhuman timing.

when i mean creative i mean someone clever enough to make suspennse out of sensible and real circumstances..

its hard to do - but it's not impossible ..

filmmaker2 06-02-2005 06:32 AM

He wears glasses--so I must strangle him with his glasses! He has a bottle of wine, so I must strangle him with his bottle of wine!

I kicked him in the kneecap and poured a glass of water on him, so now it's safe to turn my back! Oh thank goodness.

sandy_x 06-02-2005 02:17 PM

i hate bimbos in horror movies wen they run back in the house to save their hamster ye the killer wants your pet ffs or they hear a noise wen loads of ppl have been killed and they dont run out the house they go to see wat the noise was.

Nudity...Honestly...It really gets on my nerves...It isn't scary, in ANY way, and it's a pain in the ass when you have to 'edit' everything for the kids...

Yup...It's apparently an American thing...Actually...The kids know that the 'violence' is all fake...But, the nudity is TOO real...I wouldn't let them see REAL blood, guts, gore and violence either...

And, like I've said a million times...When I watch a horror movie, I wanna see HORROR...If I wanna see nudity and sex, I'll watch a porno..

so what if nudity is real ?
we all have bodies ...

what message are you sending ?

impaling a woman with a knife is ok, but impaling her with a penis is evil ?

and .. we arent even talking sex here - just nudity

They know it's not REAL...Therefore they are NOT looking at any violence...Just people PRETENDING to be violent...

jay o2 waster 06-03-2005 05:24 AM

try getting your head around this you two:

violence and nudity, and both drive the story line.http://www.fatspy.dk/store/images/Fa...Holocaust3.jpg

i mean thats all you see on american TV ..

but one slipped nipple and the world comes crashing down ..

hangups being passed from generation to generation ...
making the most natural thing in the world (our bodies) completely unnatural and something to be ashamed of ...

no too cool :(

They are completely unashamed of their bodies...But, they respect their bodies as something sacred to be shared with someone special, and not with the entire world...They believe in marriage before sex...And I think THAT's pretty cool ;)

Also, they have no desire to see strangers naked, and personally neither do I...Nor would they want strangers to see THEM naked, and I wouldn't either...

yeah - thats something else but there are different reasons for it.

the more twisted horrors - violence = sex.

everytime michael puts the knife in - it's really his way of having sex ... the same as a lot of other horrors.

substitute the knife for a dick in a lot of films
(the same way songs about 'Rock and Roll' are really about fucking)

a couple of other reasons for nudity is to get people to see it ...people love horror movies and they love tits.
Look at the cover art on every single box - sex appeal is the draw.

the more valid reason for nudity is to build tension ..
when you are nude you are at your most vulnerable.
clothing is the 1st protective layer we hide in.

shower scenes are more frightning because we know how much more terrifying it would be to be stalked in the nude rather than in our covering ...

that of course goes back to years of conditioning to the point where we are now uncomfortable with our bodies ... the only thing that is truely ours .. weird.
