It's about a rag-tag group of kids who form a baseball team, coached by an alcoholic. They can't win any games until the coach gets a flame-throwing right hander girl to be their pitcher, and they start winning. The championship game comes around and they lose, but they've all learned so much about life (and themselves) that they're proud of second place and they celebrate.

Check it out, Walter Matthau is amazing in it.
