Until the Phantom Menace came out, i was under the impression that hardcore star wars fans were cooler than Star Trek fans.. Then i saw a fat guy dressed as darth maul who had been waiting outside a theater for 3 days.... That being said, i cant wait for reveng of the sith. And fuck you if you judge me for liking it. Im of the purer faith, i Love empire strikes back and i think Jar-Jar should be castrated, but godamnit, i love star wars. the very 1st star wars movie was great.. the second one pretty good .. the 3rd one on up - meh.
The fan hype has taken on a life of it's own .. driving a lot of people away from liking the films .. i'm very close to being one of them. They do have their important place in film history .. the 1st star wars set a new standard in FX than even a layman can recognize. its a fine movie ... star trek has a different charm .. the movie form of a TV show most of us (older folk) grew up with ... so we had a built in affection for the characters .... again though .. the hard core fans ... loser weirdos. i think star wars will always be more important .. star trek more loved. i like and dislike them both equally but for different reasons. |
The star wars movies, even the new ones, despite their cheesiness, have scenes that get my adrenalin pumping.
The pod race, Darth Maul vs the two Jedi, Obi Wan vs Jango Fett, Darth Vs Luke (pick one), ROTJ space battle (greatest dogfight in history), the battle for hoth..... Hell, Yoda vs Dooku was actually pretty cool..... |

I dont really like the new Star Wars. But the original trilogy is pretty awesome. I own all of them. And the special effects were wayyyyyyy before its time. And also all the effects were done by kids just coming out of high school with no job basically.

Did i not explain it clearly enough in my last post? Number of posts does not change the relevance of your opinion, HOWEVER, criticizing the subject of a thread because you dont htink it "fits in" with the forum when you have been here a day or two is unwarranted. To be honest, if a long timer had bitched about talking star wars on a horror forum, we would probably tell them to drop it also, but, the fact is, with so few posts, he has not earned the right to tell anyone what they should or should not be discussing. You may have noticed, my final point in the whole thing was that if you dont like the subject of the thread, stay the hell out of it. Actions speak louder than words, if you think there are too many off-topic threads, then make an on-topic thread yourself and shut up. |
