What is this film
 

I remember an eerie film when i was younger and cant think of the name of it.Im sure it was made in the 70's and all i can remember is it was in a house and towards the very end of the film,a woman i think was holding a baby and something was trying to come up through the floor so they put a rug or carpet over it then the whole house was posessed and the phone reciever on the wall unhooked itself and waved around up and down the wall...thats about all i remember

does anybody know the name of this film?

I'm pretty sure it was "E.T." -- the uncut, NC-17 version of "E.T." It was originally a horror film, but they pared it down and shot some additional scenes so it would get a PG.

This is most definately, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. One of the best SciFi movies ever. You just described the scene where the aliens come to get the little boy out of the house and into the spaceship. The vacuum cleaner goes haywire, phone flies off the hook and plays the boop-boop-boop tones they used to communicate with those of us on earth, etc. Check it out-a great film!
