Burnout
How many people here push themselves until they crash?
I have been working on a project for months now and i go weeks of constant programming, going in early, skipping lunch, maybe a few lunch breaks... I am a dynamo, but then eventually, i just cant even look at the computer anymore.... Today is one of those days (hence why i am here). I didnt eat anything but a cereal bar this morning, and i had a cup of coffee (with skim milk... blech...) As a result, i havent been writing. Cheeba probably thinks i fell off the earth because i havent touched my cooking site in over a month. Hell, i am so dead these days, i held onto 3 Farscape DVDs from netflix for over 2 weeks because i just didnt have the energy to watch them.... And we have a baby on the way :D hopefully this project will be done by then, but who knows? anyone else push themselves too hard? |
i was on a project once where i was working from 7 in the morning till 1 in the morning .. often 7 days a week .. for 3 months.
our company was being bought out so i was doing the work of 4 people .. the other 3 on the team just gave up and waited for their packages. near the end of the 3 months i almost lost my mind .. nearly killed anyone who bothered me .. ready to snap. NEVER AGAIN !! |
I think thats what working in a kitchen is all about. Everytime I get hired to open a kitchen in a new restraunt I work 60-70 hours easily. Although I eat (you kinda have to when you are trying to write a menu and get thr recipes right), eating is good for you.. energy and what not. Im burt out from hours like that, I'm looking for a new profession. Kinda sad being burnt out at 22, but Ive already opend three kitchens and managed 2.

Damn kids.... :)
I guess im paying my dues now urge (although by 29 you'd think i'd have done that already.......) the work is okay though.. I'm an "accellerated learner"... I've only been programming for a year and a half but i have been writing stuff that would indicate much more experience. |

I'm writing a story for a deadline on June 1st and I'm not halfway through it. If I don't have it in on time I most likely fail the writer's workshop, and if it sucks I won't have a good chance of publishing it...
And I'm spending my time here... |

I'm a stupid procrasinator aswell. :( |
Umm, huh-uh.
Wait... Nope, nope...I don't. I am the atypical big dreams, great ideas...no flame under my ass. |
I do. I work well under pressure. also, when i start doing shit all of a sudden i wanna do like 50 other things.
is a fun one! |
I don't really push myself on any certain projects, but I do only sleep about 3-4 hours most nights and still go to work every single fucking day. I feel worn out all day long, but when it comes "bed time" I just can't do it.....so yeah, I do kinda push myself I guess, and come the weekend I am sooo burned out.

And how much longer do you have? Pressure fuel creativity a lot of times. My best projects in English Class were written the night before they were due, or that monring. Not that i am saying you should wait until the last moment.. just dont stress too much. |
Yea I did, years ago, worked in a truck repair shop for 16 hours and then took a road service truck home and was on call all night long.
Fell asleep at a stoplite once, in a bad neighborhood, with a service truck full of tools, not too smart. Plus my lady just had our first, and I didnt get to spend much time with them for the first 6 months after my daughter was born. Now give me my 40 hours and dont ask for more, if I cant get it done M-F 8-430 tuff shit. Family is way more important to me. I work with guys that work 12-16 hours a day, 6 days a week, they would probably work Sun. too if we were open. Fook that, what are you going to do take the money with you when you croak?? Maybe they should put on their tombstones " I wish I spent more time at work" |

Congrats dude! |
I have been one the verge of "burn-out" for months now. I've been working 52-60 hrs. a week, working on "honey-do" projects at home until its way to dark to see, getting maybe an hour of wind-down time if I'm lucky then dragging my ass through the house and passing out in bed...just to get up 4 hours later, bounce of the walls to the shower and do it all over again. It's rougher the older you get. I definately reccommend that you get some rest now...before the baby, because after that, a good nights' sleep will only be a dream.
