PC Assistance

So, I got a new graphics card put into my machine last night...installed by a friend, who doesn't SEEM to have fucked up too badly.
I upgraded from a
Nvidia gforce4 MMX440
to a
Radeon 9200SE

So, it works fine, I can see blur graphics, and use games that require this "pixel shader" shit...however, some settings seem to have changed during the installation.
I don't know WHY putting in a graphics card would ever possibly effect this, but this problem wasn't there before installation, an it is NOW.

Basically, my pc will NOT open cd's/dvds anymore...as in, it won't let them autorun, OR be explored.
When I try and run a cd, THIS comes up in a little window:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications.
Choose Close to terminate the application.

THEN, I get the choice of close, or ignore...either does the same thing, the cd doesn't run/can't be opened, and that's it...Happens with both my cd and dvd drives...

If anyone is any good with this BULLSHIT and has any ideas better than mine (kicking the pc into small peices), I'd thank you kindly for your reccomendations/assistance.

try opening up this file in notepad, (its to do with ms-dos enviroment behaviour).

ChEEbA 05-10-2005 11:23 PM

Man, I can't even FIND it let alone open it...I mean...aw, fuck this pc shit...

zwoti 05-10-2005 11:40 PM

gonna be a system file, by default xp hides these files so you will need to go into folder options and "unhide" them

that's assuming you have this file, have seen problems in the past where the file has been deleted

ChEEbA 05-10-2005 11:45 PM

Don't worry man, I'm just gonna end up puinching a hole in my monitor...I don't do the pc stuff, and this has reminded me why.
I think I'll have someone in to fix it, rather than irritate myself even THINKING about this any longer...
Let me guess? what you're telling me is really simple right??
No doubt.
Fuck I'm over this shit...one thing after another.

this is simple to sort out Cheeb, you'll need to find the AUTOEXEC.NT file....

Go to C:\Windows and find the 'Repair' folder, look through this folder till you see the 'autoexec.nt file', the files will be alphabetical so it will be near the top. Once you've found the 'autoexec.nt' file, right click it and then click copy. Now go back to C:\Windows and find the 'system32' folder. Right click the 'system32' folder and click paste. This will copy the backed up 'autoexec.nt' file from the 'Repair' folder to the 'system32' folder.

mscs.dll is to do with Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Server, so I'm not sure why you're getting the error... I doubt this, but are you on a network with servers?

have you deleted anything recently, or moved some files around. May also be spyware interfering.

dev!ls advocate 05-11-2005 05:04 PM

dude, what you do is this, restart your computer, if that doesnt work then get some spyware stuff, i.e spybot search and destroy, (google it) then use it, if THAT doesnt work then, basically, you're screwed... but thats what i would do... good luck my friend...
