the albums everybody had
in the days of vinyl .. there were a few albums that everybody had. Since i still collect vinyl, people are always giving me their record collections and there are a few titles i have 6 copies of each as a result.
Here are the ones from my time : Fleetwood Mac - Rumors Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd - The Wall Peter Framton - Frampton Comes Alive Supertramp - Crime of the Century Supertramp - Crisis What Crisis Carol King - Tapestries Led Zepplin - IV Steve Miller Band - Book Of Dreams The Eagles - Hotel California i know there's more .. I'm not talking personal favorites .. just the albums everyone had .. thanks to mothman .. Rolling Stones - Some Girls |
well, the first stuff that I ever stated listening to was the Rolling Stones. (Hell yes) they are still great. Then I got into Van Halen and other classic stuff.
so my first album ever (It was a cassette) was Rolling Stones: High Tides And Green Grass |
Ha ha.
Bit before my time this but my dads got a few classics. Rumours is def my fave. He's also got Houses of the Holy. The thing that scared the shit out of me when I was a sprog was the start of the thriller album with the bloke laughin. Ash |

I almost put down Thriller in the list ... but not everyone had that one .. at least no one i hung with. Kiss - Destroyer is another one though .. and Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies |
Jump!!!

Ha ha.
This is really bringing the old farts into the picture. Ash |
The only vinyl record I have is AC/DC's Back in Black.
I didn't buy it, and I don't listen to it because vinyl quality is like someone playing you a song over the phone. |

There are audiophiles who can argue that technically vinyl is better but i dont get into all of that. A scratched album can sound like shit - true ... but i have a thorens turntable and an empire stylus and my albums are pretty much mint .. they still sound crisp and clean ... not as convenient as CD though .. |
When I play it it's all crackly and shit. :(
|
I had Samantha Fox and Madona. Two sluts one stereo.

KISS Double Platinum, baby.
(Oh I'm so embarrassed) And the "Phantasm" soundtrack. I still have my old vinyl Phantasm soundtrack. Anyone wanna buy my Japanese "Halloween" soundtrack? It's very rare. First release. |

i think that would be in the 'What do you have that no one else has' thread ..(if there was one) my phantasm soundtrack is on CD .. one is a combination of phantasm and phantasm2 and the other is on 24K gold ..(part of the box set) |
Lets not forget these two.

We had a lot of Mamma and the Pappas stuff back then. Still love listenin to that now (although now I got the CD).
If you want to extend this thread a little bit, my fave singles when I was a kid were video killed the radio star, the double dutch song and the one animal from the muppets did. Ash |

Wonder whether anyones got any Chaz and Dave as well.

i aint got mo prob with vinal but it is a little out dated, im more into cd.
i dont realy have much of a vinal collection myself but i do use my dads alot, and it takes up the entire attic, he has all the esintals. i cant think of any thing off hand but i know he has all of the kiss, led zepplen, pink floyd, stones, hendrix, mainly rock but there is also some slow shit to. and just so you know im 17 and i dont think vinal is for the geriatrics. |
I gotta go with cd, but...here's a few I noticed a whole buncha people had:
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection - I guess it was pretty much her best stuff on that. Michael Jackson - Bad - It was a good time for him...IMO, a lot went downhill from here. Live - Throwing Copper - And rightly so, this was an awesome album, no question. Pulp Fiction Soundtrack - Sure, it was a funky, easy listen...seemed alotta people liked it. Eminem - The Marhall Mathers LP - I personally think he did his best work and collaborations on this album, to date, it's his only album I actually like. And here's one that everyone SHOULD have: The War of the Worlds musical...that there was the SHIT, and some of the best drunk/stoned music ever IMO... - B. |

In response to your question, Urge, I had the Samantha Fox album because I wanted to be her when I was ten.
"I wanna have some fun. Move my body all night long." Don't you remember, "Naughty Girls Need Love Too?" Where in the hell were you? Wait, don't answer that question.:D ;) |
I have a vinal....5 Man Electrical Band! Ill be damned if I can remeber the name....something about butterflies maybe?
|
A lot of people (at least here anyway) had the
INXS 'KICK' album... |
That album was a belter!
("Belter"... geddit?) |
Nevermind - Nirvana. Hell, even my dad had Nevermind
|
Most of this shit was on tape!
For me growing up everybody I hung with had..... GUNS N' ROSES - Appetite For Destruction FAITH NO MORE - The Real Thing METALLICA - ... And Justice For All IRON MAIDEN - Number of The Beast AC/DC - Back In Black and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap MOTLEY CRUE - Dr Feelgood and a bunch of shit people would get off their old brothers and sisters plenty of stuff like JUDAS PRIEST, ALICE COOPER, TWISTED SISTER. In High school it was all about.... NIRVANA - Everything possible (shit Kurt's suicide sold 1000000x more records than ever.... then people started wearing those fucking horrible Kurt D. Cobain obituary tees... fuck those people used to piss me off 'cause after years of slagging off the band for not being able to play or for being to weird they were suddenly the biggest fan because it was 'cool' now) RHCP - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik NOFX - Punk In Drublic DEAD KENNEDYS - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables and Give Me Conveinice Or Give Me Death SEPULTURA - Roots FUGAZI - 13 Songs, In On The Killtaker and Red Medicine MELVINS - Houdini (I still listen to this fucker everyday!) MUDHONEY - Superfuzz Bigmuff JANE'S ADDICTION - Nothing's Shocking PANTERA - Far Beyond Driven WHITE ZOMBIE - La Sexorcisto NINE INCH NAILS - The Downward Spiral PIXIES - Doolittle We all had our shitty little grunge bands and played at the friday open mike night at one of the local bars.... those were the days :p makes me feel a bit old tho when all the bands you grew up on are putting out greatest hits and doing cheesey reunion shows. |

those are the ones i have ... but none of the people in my age group do .. re. dead kennedies - as well as the 2 you mentioned i also have bedtime for democracy and plastic surgery disasters as well - all on sweet vinyl all my pixies are on CD ... love that band still .. |
I prefer vinyl to cd, analog to digital. One record that I have never bought, but that I always see in record store digs is anything by Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass, particularly the "whipped cream and other delights" album.
