modern horror, what needs work

im a big fan of horror.

modern, classic, slasher, zombie, hell i like every thing.

i have noticed some problems with the modern horror. spicificly, not enough gore, plot , or even originality. also way to much cgi. not enough good old fashined prostetics.

some new movie have been good, wrong turn, saw, cabin fever, ect.

thats my thoughts, whats yours.
reply.

Angra 03-15-2005 02:34 PM

I would like to see a japanese and an american horror director sticking their heads together trying to make a good original horror movie.

I think that a blend of both nations would do great for the horror genre.:)

Yeeah.... Suuure.... But maybe even more original.

I mean, lots of asian horror movies use a lot more philosophy than i have ever seen in an american horror movie. They simply got more depth.
But like the americans it seems that the asians also has got stucked in their own recipe and just use it over and over again. Like you said, a little girl with long hair covering her face, and a slow moving story that sloooooowly builds up to the grand climax.
And i don´t even wanna start with the americans. Guess there´s a reason why they´re doing so many remakes now. No new ideas.

No, i would like to see an american paced horror movie with asian philosophical depth and....(Well i´m too tired to come up with more right now)..

THAT would be cool.

kung-fu-jesus 03-15-2005 02:55 PM

the retards at full moon need some help fixing all the puppet master movies.:(

kung-fu-jesus 03-17-2005 02:52 PM

yeah, the originals were good but need some work. the should either be remade( you wont lose much cause the acting sucked) or redone. i mean redone by taking the originals and reshooting the scenes with the puppets. only this time use more detail and a better puppet teer.

Tat2 03-17-2005 04:26 PM

Here's something original...I can't believe nobody has thought of this before!!!!

First get a bunch of horney teens, most of them should be female! Yeah that's it...Female! An...an...and, the females...the females...they should have big bouncing hooters!!!! Yeah, I've got about 34 of those.... some of em actually have plots.

kung-fu-jesus 03-18-2005 07:50 AM

thats it, i got about 69. 2 of which have plots. also the females with the big bouncing hooter should have all have a perfictly shaped ass.

FangoFan 03-25-2005 10:03 PM

What kind of needs to happen is that the movie studios invest more interest in the horror genre.

The few that get sold are mainly the same old trends.

And every once in a good while a different and creative horror movie will be a suprise.

wufong 03-27-2005 03:14 AM

i think the slasher/monster/demon...or what ever needs to just win out right for once...like in jeepers creepers.. say what ya like about those movies, but at least they kept you wondering as to who was gonna live or even ifthey were gonna live. now that made for a good movie

kung-fu-jesus 03-27-2005 03:45 PM

dude what do you think freddy and jason are

wufong 03-27-2005 03:50 PM

yeah i know.. but they always fail. someone always ends up killing them even though they come back. for a few seconds at least. like a eye ball will pop open. and thats hardly a victory in anyones book.

I agree with Wu on this. Jeepers Creepers, though at parts it was formulatic and crappy, was for the majorty pretty good. I liked the fact, kinda like Wu said, that no mateer what they do, there is no chance this thing will die. No matter what, it'll be back in 23 [I think] years.

Also sortof agreeing with Wu, I think there should be a horror movie that sound pretty basic, normal, run of the mill...like most everything made recently. Then kill the typical "hero" characters, and let the bad guy win.

Hey, speaking of lack of originality...

ClassicHorror 03-31-2005 04:52 AM

Cabin Fever was a rip-off of Evil Dead, it tried to be a classic too hard, and failed.

crazy raplh 03-31-2005 07:05 AM

I liked cabin fever. I don't think it was trying to be like any movie. the pancake kid was hilarious. I was the only person laughing in the theatre.

bwind22 03-31-2005 07:55 AM

Wu and Return/Vamp go rent Slumber Party Massacre. Without giving anything away, I think it's what you guys are looking for. :)

As for Cabin Fever... I didn't like it much the first time I saw it, in the theatre, but the second time when I rented it and watched it with my fiance, I think I liked it better. In my eyes it went from a D grade movie to a C or maybe even a C+ when I rewatched it.

I really liked Wrong Turn. A fairly formulatic plot, but the movie was just tense as hell and highly entertaining. That scene where the inbreds are butchering their friend in the cabin and they are all hiding in there watching it was sweet!

I thought Jeepers Creepers was awesome too! I loved the ending. The sequel, however, was typical Hollywood. A bunch of good looking teens get lost in the middle of nowhere, take off clothes, get killed one by one, blah, blah, blah The End. It had the head regeneration which was cool, but overall I wasn't thrilled with the JC2.

I thought Saw started out pretty good but once the blond guy started trying to act desperate, it got really stupid. Whoever that guy is should start looking for a new profession because he sucked ass! The ending was unneccesarily twisty and didn't seem to fill all of the holes. All in all, I was disappointed because I went in with such high hopes for this one.

urgeok 03-31-2005 08:54 AM

i took cabin fever for what it was .. an entertaining horror comedy.
i thought it was pretty funny ..

noctuary 10-09-2005 08:19 PM

Boogeyman really did suck. There's a blurb on the cover that says, "The scariest horror movie I've ever seen!" - some idiot critic. Kind of makes you wonder exactly how many horror movies this person has seen...

Anyway, I agree with the thread starter that the use of CGI in movies (horror or otherwise) has gotten way too pervasive. If I wanted to see CGI, I'd play a video game. I hate it.

I agree but the thing about american psycho was even that was diluted down from how it was set out in the book.
The main problem with the horror genre is that the makers of these films know that horror fans are the most loyal. There seems to be an attitude that all they need is knife wielding maniac/spleen sucking monster, blood splashes and a tit shot and fans will go see these films in the desperate hope of seeing something original or different. Every now and again a film stands out eg Dog Soldiers or Saw, unfortunately we do have to wade thru some shit to find the good ones
