Project Greenlight
Yeah I know it belongs elsewhere but figured it would get most coverage here. Tonite on BRAVO channel is the Premier of Project Greenlight. For those that arent familiar with it, the show was created to give a "contest winner" amateur movie maker the chance to make a movie with expert advice, and MGM money. Tonites season premier at 9pm est. is the beginning of the "lets make a horror movie" series. From start to finish a would be movie maker gets advice from WES CRAVEN among others, to make a new horror movie.

Its about time they put a "realty show" on TV that was interesting and not about singing off key or eating horse intestines.
I'm surprised more people on this forum haven't commented on this show, seeing that it involves the whole process of scripting and making a horror movie. The opening show dealt with picking a script and a director. If you follow Inquity's link you can get the specifics. And even if your anti-Ben Affleck, [ I could never get the concept of generalizing hatred for a particular actor, sure they could make a crappy movie but to hold that against them from then on is stupid IMO ], anyway....the panal of judges consist of the aforemention BA as well as Matt Damon and Wes Craven and a gaggle of studio execs. Its interesting to see the thought process of these people and how the studio has pretty much the last word [ and you wonder why there is so many remakes and sequels..the allmighty $$$] Ben, Matt and even Wes Craven were against the script picked but the studio people spoke.I was kinda hoping for the "time travel" script to be chosen. It would be cool if we here could get our own panal of discussion going after each episode.....just a thought. |
I may have to take a look next time it is on....
And i hate Ben Affleck because he is the devil, bobby bouche! |

i havent watched TV in 20 years ...
never will again .. I'd rather read books on the subject than endure the commercials and slick production values in this case ... |

I'm a really bad reader and I love video games. I think that t.v is the one of our worst drug addiction. We would have a better earth if people didn't watch so much t.v people quote t.v all the time . I think its sad. We act like people on shows because we can't be ourselves anymore. (everyone will deny it) but its true. |

well, i may have traded the TV for the PC :) just a different screen with different channels .. at least its a bit more interractive |

On a side note.....
Anybody watchin' South Park? Fuckin hippies....:) |
I watched it and enjoyed the show, I hate reality shows but this one deals in horror so I had to watch.
1. I have a question? How does a sci fi script make into the final 3 in a show that is supposed to be about horror? The time travel script sounded kool but I didnt think it could be horror. 2. I think they picked the right director, the guy may have a communication problem but I dont necessarily think that means he has a lack of vision. The short films of his that I saw I really enjoyed and thought they were interesting and above a freshman filmmaker. 3. The script "Feast" sounds like a B movie, straight to video film. Of course Dimension likes it, they have ZERO vision and are only looking at what is easily marketable and is going to be bring about a quick buck. Maybe I am wrong but a campy horrorcom that takes place in a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere sounds a little to much to me like "Tremors" which I thought was a great film. I forsee alot of rewriting going on and the original script being gutted. 4. Wildcard sounded interesting, I was really disappointed that they didnt pick it and I didnt get to hear more about it. Wes seemed to like it, I believe I heard him say that he would like to direct it. I dont understand why they would bring him on board if the studio isnt going to listen to his input. I wonder how he feels about putting his name on something that he may or may not be comfortable with. |
I missed the first couple of minutes so I wasen't sure what "Wild Card" was all about.Wes Craven did indeed like the script, so much in fact he bought it, according to the blog on the PGL website.
I was also rooting for the director they picked, even though he does seem a little odd.I believe he is Clu Gulager's[Return of the Living Dead ] son.Its going to be interesting watching the studio people butt heads with Matt Damon, whom really seems to want to make a good movie. |

I didnt even make the connection with Gulager, he seems to be a little quirky but I think that he is going to a great job with the shitty script that they handed him. I am not a big fan of Damon/Affleck but they seem like they are really interested in making a good film. Did you catch the part where Damon tells studio execs, that 'you have the master of horror sitting 2 feet away and he is telling you that this script fucking sucks' he was speaking of "Feast" I think it is going to be an interesting season watching these guys argue over how the film is going to be made. |

I remember someone saying on the show that they had like 17 or 18 characters in the first 20 mins. Sounds like a miniseries not a hour and a half movie. Way too many characters to develop so that will probably be the first to go. Plus I think it would be difficult to make a monster horror film on a low budget without making it look cheesy and stoopid. I am unsure what CGI cost but am sure that you cant get quality CGI done on this kind of budget. |
I watched the screenwriter and director episodes last night...
"Feat" sounds like an even shittier "From dusk til dawn". the writer who did the talking was obnoxious. anyone who says "Rock on" and means it should be shot. The idea just blows, i am in 100% agreement with craven on this... Wes was the one who said that it intropduced 20 characters in the first 15 minutes.... The dimension execs piss me off. I was furious listening to them try to convince themseleves that the script was "pretty good" and that they werent just signing it because it was certain to make back what they put into it... fucking greedy assholes. Ben Affleck is a bit of a pussy. you can tell he wanted to agree with matt, but was to afraid to voice an opinion that was too extreme one way or another. Matt Damon has my unending repsect. he has balls, and i have agreed with everything he has said so far. What kills me is that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote a movie that won a fucking oscar. As much as i cant stand Ben, they both routinely make blockbusters, but the "geniuses" at Dimension who have been churning out quite a bit of shit for a while, refuse to listen to them. And wes craven... Granted, i dont particularly care for most of what he has done, he knows his shit, and i would definately take his advice if he offered it. Plus, he is just damn likeable. he and matt damon are the only people on the show that really seem dedicate dto making something good. Ben waffles too much and the rest of the peopel dont give a fuck unless they think the project will make them a ton of money (which matt points out is NOT the goal of the show......) |
Quote:
"Rock On" Does anybody even say that shit anymore???? I agree shoot the Fooker in the back of the head for saying shit like that. I think these 2 writers are 2 juvenile to write a decent script. |
agreed.
This looks like it is going to be a case of good director, shitty script. You can gold-plate a turd, but in the end, it is still shit.... |

I watched it again over the weekend and like I said before....the script writers are in for a realty check. There gonna run the first episode tuesday night at 8, then the new episode at 9. |
i will have to watch that. i hope things go well for the director, but i hope to hell the the writers crash and burn...
|
Figured I would give it a bump, dont forget to watch tonite.

I'm watching the second episode now and so far it looks like the director they picked [ whom I liked from the beginning ] is headed for a meltdown. The dude had better start articulating his ideas.
