what should be the next horror remake? in my opinoin it should be a remake of last house on the left. now there was nothing wrong with the old one, but it should be redone. for our generation. agree or disagree reply |

hey fuck heads alot of fucking movies need remade. wether just that the original sucked and had potential or that it just needs brought to a new generation cause not all people have a love for the classics
i do so dont start bitching. |
Remakes deserve to never ignorantly destroy the integridy of the horror genre.
Remakes and prequels and sequels are what's killing the great film genre. I see the original or look for something new. |
A remake should only be carried out if it is certain that the original can be improved upon either with better actors, directing or special effects.
With The Last House On The Left this would not be the case. The power and shock value of that movie was the gritty realism, nastiness and the fact at that time in the seventies this kind of film was unique. A modern remake would come nowhere near to giving the viewer such an uncomfortable experience as the original did. Old movies that required special effects for their entertainment value are a better bet for a successful remake. |
yeahn but half the time the special effects sucked ass. they need redone.

Great makeup effects always more viscaral and I think scarier. |
that i agree with, but the make-up should be good.

A lot of those original movies were made during a time when cursing and violence was a huge no-no. So therefore the stories weren't as realistic. So I can understand remaking a much older film and adding all those things so there can be realism. But by the time the late 60's rolled around, Hollywood really loosened up and you could curse, have violence, nudity, the whole bit in movies.
Unless you are adding onto the story or you are taking a bad movie and turning it into something good, there's really no reason to be remaking all these current remakes. And a lot of the remakes today are remakes of really good movies, and there's NOTHING wrong with the originals. A lot of remakes today are just carbon copies of the original only with new actors. Nothing new is being added. |
yeah thats kinda true, but some bring something new to the pic.
|
I think maybe the only remake I ever liked was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.
I will admit i liked the remake. But it wasn't necessary. The original was much scarier 'cuz there were things left to the imagination. |
Some remakes can be great. I again point to the Body Snatcher movies, which thus far have been somewhat of a generational thing. They're due for a new one pretty soon.
And as for the classics, it's not like they didn't do all kinds of sequels back in the day. Killing the genre my ass. Shitty movies are what's killing the genre. Not sequels or studios or big evil money-hungry Hollywood. People are making shitty movies. People are especially making shitty horror movies. Thus, shitty horror movies are killing the genre, sequel or not. |
Without any original movies. There wouldn't be any fucking stupid remakes. Even "bad" original movies get remade for bad remakes.
Remakes are stupid. Why was TCM remade! why god why! |
you guys are so very special.
|
ok its offical, alot of peopel dont like remakes( i do)
some suck and some are good. also barbra is a fucking retarded ass bitch |
It doesn't help that the original horror movies coming out are sucky too.
*cough* Boogeyman The ONLY remake I ever loved was The Ring. That's it. The rest of em are pointless in my opinion. |

Remakes..huh.. okay hear me out... I know it's not of the Horror genre but the remake of Dukes of Hazzard with Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke really scares me....That could be horror..right?! Another remake that scares me is Miami Vice...the 80's ooohh kinda horrific too... well any ways as long as they dont remake Army of Darkness (perfect in my twisted mind) I really cant complain...

Remakes are all well and good, but there are just too many of them lately, even the so called new films are remakes of foreign films.
|
yeah, thats why i had almost no respect for the ring and dont even get me started on the grudge
|
Remakes are just about money. Film companies would rather turn out a remake because it is less of a gamble than making an original. They use the original as a platform to sell the remake, building on its popularity and notority, gaining years of free publicity. An original idea you have to sell to the public, it has to be exciting and new and you have to make people want to see it, and that is a big gamble for some studios. I am sure that there must be hundreds of new ideas landing on producers desks every year, but we usually end up with a tired re-hash of a worn out format. The music industry is going the same way with cover version after cover version after cover version.
That said however I don't want people to think I am against remakes. I've seen some very good remakes (TCM) and some really poor originals (The Village), but I console myself with the fact that in a few years someone will probably turn out a kickarse remake of The Village, which will be everything the orginal wasn't i.e good. Unless however the The Village was a remake of an earlier film I just never saw. SHIT!!! I just had a thought. Does that mean the term "Original" is subjective, will the kids of today watch TCM 2003 and because they never saw TCM 1974 regard it as original. This can only mean one thing, that my rhetoric here is just a re-hash of something someone has already said before, and that I have never had a truly original thought in my entire life!!!! This could mean.........Oh bollocks I'm going to bed ;) |
hey
hey well i think remakes are better then the first ones! more special effects and a hell of alot better actors/ actresses! the only problem i have is when they remake the old movies and they totally screw up the ending or some of the facts if it were a true story. but all in all i say the remakes ROCK !
|
I am tired of the remakes myself. I don't mind the occasional remake. In fact, I like several; I love Cronenberg's remake of The Fly, I love the Dawn of the Dead remake (kind of unnecessary but I think it is a decent film).
But I have to admit that I have been just a little bitter about remakes after The Haunting remake, which sucked beyond description and completely missed the point of the original story. Better special effects do not make a better movie. I am probably in the minority here, I know a lot of people loved it, but I hated the TCM remake because it just didn't have the impact of the original. Not even close, in my opinion. There was one really good scene in the film, but otherwise it was completely pointless and dull, yes, I found it to be boring. Slicker than the original, but that is exactly why I love the original. It wasn't slick; it was dark, gritty and terrifying. And I am dreading The Evil Dead remake and The Fog remake.....just dreading them.... I want to see more original films and less remakes, but again, I am not totally opposed to remakes. Just don't want to see quite so many. |
hey whats to dread ? just dont see them unless you hear that they are good ..
i dont care about remakes one way or the other - some are good, some are bad .. just like non remake films. i mean its not like other films are that origional - even if they arent direct remakes. 1/2 of teen comedies are just rehashes of Romeo and Juliet or The Taming of the Shrew. most sci-fi or post apocolyptic film is just a version of Shane .. like people have already said ... the masses crave something they can identify with. people looking for more origionality have always suffered because the movie machine is a business - it doesnt claim to make art. |

And no there isn't much in the way of originality these days, but I at least want to believe that someone is trying. And I figure there are some decent, fairly original horror scripts out there that are completely ignored because the film industry would rather throw money at yet another remake. I just want to see it balance out a little more.:) |
what about remaking "Jaws" and "Piranha"...?...Maybe the audience are ready for a new monster in the water wave ?
...and the spesial effects in for example "Jaws" can be improved..but I like the old "Jaws" too... ..And what about starting a new mad scentist wave...like "Dr Jecyl and Mr Hyde"...... |
