Raimi:The Grudge. Thats more like it
After having a dig at Raimi for being involved with that snorefest that was Boogeyman I feel the need to balance it up after seeing the remake of the Japanese horror The Grudge that Sam organised to be remade by the original director for Western audiences.I had avoided seeing it at the cinema due to having seen the original and not wanting to see a watered down American version. How wrong was I? I've just watched it on DVD and it is absolutely superb. It actually blows the original away and actually scared me which very few movies do these days.Sam needs to get this Japanese director signed up to make some more films because the horror genre has been crying out for someone with film making talent that he obviously has.

come on admit it - thats why you dont like it :) |
I thought it was boring, meandering, inconsistent, unnecesarrily non-linear, and much of it was just ridiculous.
Where is Hellfire1, she is my backup on this. she hated it too :) |
zzzz.... hmm ? wha ? oh you're talking about the grudge ?
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz........ :p |
How can people find it boring??? It had a climax every 5 minute?
 |
i saw ju-on before The Grudge (american version) so I knew what to expect... Nevertheless I enjoyed it a little more because it explained a lil bit more and the effects were better. Both movies are very good though.
|
I'm American!!! I love my movies short! I want everything explained to me! I want CGI special effects and big name actors!!! Go USA!
|
Complain as much as you will about big name actors, explanations and cgi effects, but hollywood wouldnt keep churning that shit out if people didnt pay them to do it.
And i still think it was boring, meandering and pointless. I still find the exorcist creepy as hell, but the grudge bored and annoyed me. I thought they hit just around what could have actually been scary, but missed it.... |

Funny. I have the totally opposite opinion about it.:) |
So does everyone else, apparently:)

not to piss anybody off, but for all the hipe and the fact that it was soposed to be a fucking horror film
IT SUCKED ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! it was boring. stupid. and just fucking anoying. come on it was basicly just like the ring( which was ok, only for being a little original, untill every on found out it wa a remake and saw the original). the kid and family drown, they came back, the wont go away, i mean with the exception of a video tape the damn thing was basicly repeditive. not to mention all the fuckers at school who said it was scary as hell. as for the guy who said it was one of the best horror films to come out of the us in the last 5 years. all i have to say is SAW. true, the grudge over shadowed saw, but thats only because alot of people were to pussy to go see it. |

HEATHEN!!! I liked "Saw" though.;) |
I was sure saw was going to suck, it seemed cool, but people who make movie adds these days have a.d.d. or something, you can't tell what a movie is about anymore unless you look it up. But I liked saw, I whent to see the grudge instead but then again I went with my dad and he has a thing for sarah michelle geller. I was only tense one time during the movie and that was when the dead chicks reflection showed up in the bus window. you know the sound the spirits made through the movie? its like a joke between me and some friends.

Funny. That was the only scene that shocked me too. But mostly because that was the only scary moment i had NOT seen before in the japanese versions. Like iīve said before then The Grudge is a blend of the first 3 "Ju-on" movies when it comes to the different scares in it. |

i asked what american horror films were anywhere near as good as the Grudge in the last 5 years ... and you named one movie ? |
Jeepers Creepers
The Ring Dawn of the Dead Hell, even Wrong Turn was better in my opinion. |

no one ever seems to acknowledge me saying that it was predictable... Does that mean you did too? |

this is coming from someone (me) who considers almost every movie i see - predictable. i dont care much about that in this case .. i find that the movies are so well made that they are able to pull off a compelling movie each time. (i'm speaking within my exposure so far - Ju-on, Ringu, Dark Water, The Eye - and the american counterparts so far) I havent liked the Korean movies too much so far. They seem like a pale imitation of the Japanese films. but it still leaves me wondering what you prefer .. surely not slasher films ... they are insanely predicctable and totally devoid of atmosphere (i'm talking americans here - not the italians) 3 films in recent memory i've enjoyed .. 6th Sense, The Others, Session 9 .. and Stir of Echos gets an honerable mention. (it was a good movie but it doesnt stay in the forefront of my mind - and there must be a reason for that. as far as The Grudge ... i dont get the argument that it was hard to follow, or disjointed .... but thats because i didnt have any trouble following it ... |
I had no problem following it, its just that the time shifts seemed to come out of nowhere and didnt actually add anything to the film for me. Pulp fiction used the time jumps to tie all of the stories together. the grudge seemed to use it because there was a cool device at their disposal, so why not?
Plus, the deaths were just boring to me. gasp, die. eek. The ring did a much better job. the first time i saw the part where noah dies, i damn near shit myself. |
i still say it sucked.
if you want to see a really fucked up jap horror film rent AUDITION this movie is so fucked up it freeked out rob zombie. go see it. the girls cute. also its a little slow but make sure you watch the last 20 min of the movie. this movie is fucked up you way never watch it again. other than being a little so and seriously fucking derange its pretty good. so if you like jap horror this is the top movie. |
so .... 'fucked up' is your measure of quality in a horror film....
|
Quote:
I actually found "Audition" slooooow paced and boring a long way through the movie. But luckily it had some good actors. The last 20 minutes were nice though. The lead actor, was by the way, the detective in the american "The grudge". Funny huh?;) |
no fucked up isnt my measure of horror quality. i ment fucked up as fucked freeky. the crazy bitch has the guy in a burlap sack. she cuts of his tounge, legs, ect. she uses acupunctuer( only thick needles) in his nose, tounge( before she sliced it off with some sharp ass wire. she also preformes acupuncture on the dudes eyes. when she takes his foot off the crazy bitch giggles with joy.you got to watch it to get it all.
so i ment fucked up as in grusome and the fucking bitch is crazyer than jack was in the shining. |
so i guess that could have used a spoiler alert.
I have the DVD - havent watched it yet. i guess i dont need to now .. thats fucked up. |
