Let's Hear It For "PHANTASM" Again!
Since people here have not been talking enough about PHANTASM, I thought I would mention it. What a wonderful wonderful film this is! So sparkly fresh and creepy cool, it's enough to make a monster drool. All Hail PHANTASM!
|
I've never seen it. What's it about?
|
ive been waiting for over 2 months from netflix for that movie... its ridiculous.... classic!! Phantasm rules!!! I love the flying metal ball.
|
Oh my....I'm so lazy....it's about two orphaned brothers who discover strange goings-on at a local mortuary, which is haunted by some kind of demon--a frightening tall man who they come to know as "The Tall Man" (of course) and who crushes and reanimates dead bodies to use as dwarf slaves. This sinister figure also controls a wicked flying metal ball with spikes sticking out of it whose job it is to impale intruders and drill into their heads so it can suck out their brains. The graphic scene in which the "Silver Sphere" demonstrates what it does freaked lots of people out when this film came out in 1979!
What's it all MEAN? This very dreamlike, surreal film is not designed to make sense, but is very frightening and very funny, too--a good combination for summer popcorn audiences. PHANTASM also features the groovy Reggie Bannister as the ice-cream-van-driving, guitar-playing friend who gets sucked into the mystery. He has a crazy "What We Gotta Do" speech, about two thirds of the way in. Later in the sequels, he becomes a dwarf-killing, bad-ass mo-fo. PHANTASM also features obsessions with beer drinking, fast cars, and chicks. An extremely quirky, atypical horror film that redefined the genre in many subtle and insidious ways. |
my avatar shows the damage that the silver metal ball can do.

phantasm rules. yay for fantasy horror

BH, I met that actor in your av, Mark Anthony Major, when I was working on "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" in 1990. He was doing stunt double work for Robert Englund, and was a very charming fellow.
I thought he played a great evil undertaker in PHANTASM II--did you notice that the two undertakers never had a single line of dialogue? |
my favorite horror film of all time ..
i have the limited edition laserdisc box set thats hand signed by the director and angus scrimm .. i think i have # 24/2000 |
Yeah Phantasm kicks ass, one of my more favorite horror series ever..
|
Ohhhhhhh I wanted one of those so bad!!! I used to drool over it at the laserdisc stores. Ended up getting the cheaper version.
I do have the "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" laserdisc signed by Alan Ormsby and Bob Clark...you've probably got one of those in your fortress of movies too! |

i have the laser but it isnt signed. the other signed one i have is the hellraiser boxset - it has a Clive Barker handsigned script inside. i think its limited to 2000 as well. another reason laserdiscs were so damn cool... you wont get that shit with DVD kpro ... would find this interesting .. there is another boxset .. Ghettysburg or something like that - that came with an authentic spent shell. which leaves me to wonder if its ghesttysburg because they used round shot in that war ..i think. anyway - it was pretty cool whatever it was.,.. |

Yes, as a matter of fact, he did do "Porky's," and "Dead Things" was his first feature film.
As far as laserdiscs, Urge...that's right, I remember that conversation! It was such a good time when lasers were out. Nowadays I might say, "Well, better the smaller disc, the big disc was quite a lot of plastic to consume," but I enjoyed them when they were around. Get it, "around?" I have a gorgeous laser of "Palm Springs Weekend" that is so clear and bright I think it'll crack my TV screen... |
hee hee Porky's
Phone call for Mike Hunt. hee hee hee |
also A Christmas Story
and Black Christmas .. or whatever its called |

I'm not sure who it is, I know most of the classic stars just not all of them. I know who she is now I had even seen movies with her in 'em but just didn't realize it was her. |
I fall into a swoon over Ingrid Bergman.

and back on subject, hurry up don with my phantasm boxset  |
Quote:
Well I guess I was lucky too...........my mom used to tell me all the stories about all of the greats. She used to get bugged when I said " Who's that?" lol :D :p And I chose Ingrid because I am also an Ingrid, and named after her. |

my dad was the same way, he always used to watch old movies like Gone with the Wind and Rear Window ect ect. and I'd watch 'em with him asking a bunch of questions because I was really young and only knew people like Arnold(God knows how to spell his last name), Eddie Murphy ect ect. my dad actually wanted to name me Clint Joe(Clint Eastwood and the character he played in The Good,The Bad and The Ugly) but my mom wouldn't let him, I personally think it would've been cool. |
Quote:
It is cool though to be named after someone! :D Even though I really don't like my name. |

Quote:
Your name is just fine............just don't like Clint for personal reasons lol :p Never mind though................ ;) |

When I was in high school, I recall, there was this foreign exchange student who looked just like Ingrid Bergman, and all the guyfolk just totally loved her...I don't know if any of 'em knew who Ingrid Bergman was (probably not), but she was, well, appreciated.
