Anyone into this movie or the comic? I watched it again for the first time in years and thought it was awesome it had some really clever, trashy stories with great animation that still holds up today. I haven't seen the second movie yet but I think I'll have to check it out after enjoying this one so much.

one of the first and only films i ever saw twice - once after another - at the theatre when it was released.

used to have a ton of the magazines (and the marvel version - Epic) but i stupidly gave them away years ago. kicking myself ever since.


the movie had some great moments ... the creepy airplane graveyard sequence ...

and a number of the SCTV personell doing some of the voicework was fun - especially John Candy.

You would be kicking yourself about that! There quite hard to come by nowdays. I got the hardcover version of Heavy Metal: F.L.A.K.K 2 the other day. It's the comic adaption of the second film and has some awesome artwork and stills from the first movie. John Candy is great in that movie! He's one of the iconic 80s comedians that I really miss not being around anymore.

i probably had 50 or more of them ... old issues too - about 20 years ago - when you could still understand what the hell was going on in them ..

i picked one up the other day to look at one and couldnt follow anything ... like they've run out of ideas so obscurity was the only thing left.


i've had the sequal for some time but i'm actually afraid to watch it...

Yeh they and comics in general have gone pretty crazy. It does have a great soundtrack and its a good loud in your face movie. I really wanna see the second one now it can't be all that bad??! :confused: It has Michael Ironside in it doesn't it?

yeah, i only saw a couple minutes of the sequel...it was horendous...but had a decent soundtrack....

I'm definatley gonna have to check this out then. Looks like a case of getting twice as blunted as I normally would to enjoy this one.

i miss him but more from his SCTV days ..
none of the SCTV alumni were ever as good in their respective movies as they were in that brilliant series.

with SCTV they each had a hundred different characters they played ..

better than SNL in my opinion ... WAY better.

probably neck and neck with Monty Python - where Python was more cerebral, SCTV had the edge on different characters.
Some amazing immitations and funny stereotypical manifestations of their own..

About the movie.......great flik.....great soundtrack.
I didn't like the second as much...but it wasn't bad.

We never got that program over here. Do they have it on video or anything?

it origionated in canada and after a couple of years it moved to the USA and was a 90min TV show.
Although the earlier episodes are not available they've started to release the 90 minute shows to DVD.
So far 2 seasons have been released (5 DVDs each)

its the kind of show that most people would find annoying at first but once you got to know the characters it becomes a lot of fun.

also - younger people might not get a lot of the jokes because they are based on people who arent around now (its a pretty old show)

John Candy, Rick Moranis (ghostbusters), Martin Short, Harold Ramis (also ghostbusters) all got their start here.

Ivan Reitman (ghostbusters, stripes, heavy metal) used these guys a lot.

The shows always remained Canadian - even when in the USA - and referred to local landmarks constantly as canadian in-jokes.

you might just think it was stupid (and anyone outside of Canada and under 30 - i wouldnt blame them) but its cool to see where these actors started out.

Other people you might know to see but maybe not by name : Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara.

I sounds pretty cool I grew up watching a lot of those guys so I think I'd get into it. I've gotta get around to getting a DVD player so I can check a lot of this stuff out.

I loved HM both the magazine and the movie. My favorite part of the movie were the aliens snorting space coke.

Haahaha yeh! I liked that bit too. "Do you think that's enough?"
