Horror Writers

Although most of the talk is about films I find that horror literature is generally more entertaining as censorship does not come into it so much and it does not get affected by poor special effects and studio pressure on the creators. Literature is far more original and imaginative and the good authors can basically take you anywhere they like with their ideas.
I'd like to know what other horror fans think and vote in my poll for your favourite author and possibly suggest someone Ihaven't mentioned.

MisterSadistro 01-31-2005 11:06 AM

There's a section for literature down a few forums.

To Mr Sadistro or whatever your stupid name is ,probably prat, this is a general forum so I'll post whatever I like. If you're not interested in the subject then why bother replying with such moronic messages. Unfortunately there isn't a dickhead section on this site so we're probably stuck with your mindless babble.

I disagree, I think film is better because the book is brought to life and if it's well done then it'll be a great film reguardless of the reasons you listed above.

perfect example- The Shining

Word of advice, noob: There are correct forums and there are correct manners. Learn to use them both.
As for "we're probably stuck with" statement, who exactly is "we"? 11 posts doesn't exactly make you a regular around here, does it ? I simply said there is a Books section and you'd be more likely to find people to chat with there about authors. In case you hadn't noticed, the General forum is for topics that don't fit anywhere else (ie Appropriate Time to Ban Noobs). No, unfortunately there is no "dickhead section", just like there's no "noobs who don't how to post in correct forums and get a hair up their ass when informed section". Sad, huh ?

I refuse to vote on the grounds that there is no "Vodstok" option on the poll. :p

As for the topic of the thread, I refuse to vote on the grounds that you left Edgar Allen Poe off your list.

Angra 02-01-2005 11:52 AM

Or what about Dan Simmons and H.P. Lovecraft? Why are they not included on the list? Huh, huh, huh??? What have they ever done to you!!!?

Vodstok 02-01-2005 12:56 PM

Yes, forgetting Poe and Lovecraft is like making a pole about "popular Deities" and forgetting God and Jesus.

The STE 02-01-2005 01:04 PM

Fuck You

orangestar 02-01-2005 01:09 PM

Just like to chime in with the rest of you about forgetting Poe and Lovecraft.

Gah!

But this is exactly the problem between The Shining the film and The Shining the book - picturing Jack Nicholson crazed from the outset in Kubrick's movie, the bonkersly winsome Shelley Duvall, not to mention the crude shocks... are all at odds with the feel of King's book.

Kubrick changed the supernatural elements, and while he made an undeniably effective film, it is very, very different from the original story - and if anything, detracts from it.

Also remember, bwind22, that I'm also in my 5th incarnation around after being banned, blocked, etc. for a squabble a ways back with a mod (I was originally DVP). The 170 is only under my current screen name (which is still 159 more than book boy).

I agree with you.

Vodstok 02-02-2005 03:43 AM

Funny thing is i wont read the shining the book for basically the same reason... I love the movie and i dont want to ruin the experience by reading the book.

Plus, i am reading "Dunwich Horror" right now, which is a mere 44 pages and it is taking me for-fucking-ever.

Did you know they made a movie of that with Dean Stockwell and Sandra Dee?

Vodstok 02-02-2005 04:03 AM

Really? I may have to check it out. have you seen it? i have been disappointed by every lovecraft adaption i have seen....

I saw it when I was in high school (very, very long time ago). I remember then that I liked it. But then, I remember when I was a kid I saw Mark of the Devil in the theater and loved it. Last year I bought it from Movies Unlimited and thought "What the hell was I thinking? This movie sucks!" So I can't really give you a new perspective on it. Sorry! I know Netflix has it, if you belong to Netflix rent it.

Vodstok 02-02-2005 04:17 AM

I do and i will :)

i am really cautious though. The guy who did Dagon is a hardcore fan, but he proves that enthusiasm does not make up for talent and story telling.

This was directed by Daniel Haller (never heard of him). It also has Ed Begley, Talia Shire, Lloyd Bochner, and Sam Jaffe. Like I said, I remember liking it as a kid, but that doesn't mean anything today.

Vodstok 02-02-2005 04:47 AM

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Here is a review comment from IMDB:
"Will not particularly please H.P. Lovecraft fans. "

We'll see....
