Hey look...a remotely horror related thread....weird!
Ok, so I just got the original Dawn of the Dead on dvd, I'm glad to say I now own the entire original "dead" trilogy.
All pretty good films IMO, although I wasn't that much into "day"... Anyway, I've seen a few zombie films in my time, among my favourites are NOTLD, Shaun of the dead, and Versus...all for different reasons. Now, myself and my chick usually buy pretty much 75%+ bootleg dvds, not crappy cinema cam ones, actual retail rips (good supplier)...but we tend to buy the official copies of the films we really like. Then I got NOTLD and Day, and eventually Dawn, all officials...so, we both like zombie films, so we decided to get a huge collection of official zombie movie dvds going...at this point we've only just started, apart from 3-4 bootleg movies, we have the dead trilogy, I got a UK version Shaun of the Dead through ebay, we have the dawn of the dead remake, and yes, I own resident evil...I just like seeing zombies get blasted...is that wrong? I hear the colour remake of NOTLD is pretty damn good, so that's next on my list...If it's even ON dvd.., and another one I REALLY want to see is Cemetary Man (?Dellamorte dellamore/Dead Love?), and zombie holocaust looks interesting too, I've also heard Near Dark might be worth a look? Ok, so I want some advice from any of you guys that actually talk about horror here...as I said, I wanna get a collection goin' on... I'm not just talking about US/UK films either, if it's a good zombie film, in ANY respect, I wanna hear about it, no matter WHERE it's from. Please hit me with some reccomendations with brief descriptions. Thanks. - B. |
my 1st suggestion would be to watch Day again.
That movie really grew on me ... Cemetary Man is top notch near dark is a vampire flick ..are u just talking zombies ? |
Horror related? Yes. I will give you that.
Interesting? People would care about this as much as they would give a fuck about the weather on the moon. |
Urgeok, you're right, near dark - I must have got the title mixed up...the film I'm referring to is about some dude who comes home from a war, but he's a zombie but pple just think he's shell shocked? I'm sure it had Dark in the title?!?
Yes, just zombie films...^my mistake^. I will watch Day again, perhaps it'll grow on me too...if not, hey - I'm sure it's not for everyone. Please go on, and some info on these films would be good too. Thanks. As for you haphazard, If you're not interested...don't post. Never said it was INTERESTING anyway, did I? You can go on posting about whatever it is you post about now... |
O man zombie movies are my favorite movies. Why didnt you like "Day", I think its the greatest zombie movie ever concieved.
And which "Dawn" DVD did you get. The big expensive one or the Anchor Bay/Divimax one?(which i watched at 7 a.m.) And yes there is a new color version of NOTLD now on DVD, I also suggest getting the Tom Savini NOTLD DVD also, its really great. Anyways yeah, other good zombie flicks which i have in my collection, which i suggest picking up are Zombie Flesh Eaters(Zombie), The House by the Cemetary(i concider it a zombie movie, its like a zombie killer guy.), Return of the Living Dead and City of the Living Dead. There all kick ass. |
|
IDYB, I don't really know why I didn't much like Day...I mean, I found it entertaining and all, and I liked the conflict going on between the humans...I honestly can't put my finger on it - just something I didn't enjoy as much? I'll rewatch in a few months and see if urgeok is right about it.
NOTLD...so there's 2 remakes? I know there was the original redone with colour on top of it, and then an actual remake, but there was another?? Info please. The one you mentioned called Zombie, is that the one by the italian dude?? I'm not sure, but I think it had a sequel? I've often wanted to look at that one... City of the living dead? Tell me about it? Cool, I'll check it out shanks...and probably come in to ask questions n shit about those that I've not yet seen. |

Ok, as long as you don't consider it a waste of your time to do so, I'm ok with that...but please don't speak for others. Clearly, there IS some people here that ARE interested - Again, it's ok if you're not. Urgeok, if you could come up with the title...that'd be good. I've heard it's something I really gotta see. |

Another good zombie movie that I downloaded was filmed in your back yard Cheeba. "Undead". Kind of a NOLD with alien overtones. |
Yes, I saw undead...the guys that made it were still in film school (or whatever), did it as one of their projects, and got a massive govt. grant to make it...apparently it has the biggest special effects budget ever in an australian film.
They're saying the two brothers that made it could really go places in movies...I wonder if they will? Not a bad film...not one of my favourites though - I DID like the zombies, and the gore was great. Yes, "dead of night" is the title it was released under here in Aus, what's it like?? |
Sorry....I can't help you there. I did see it when it first came out many moons ago, but for the life of me I can't remember too much. I'll have to look for it myself and give it another spin.

I love the movie 28 Days Later but no one else seems to consider it a "zombie" movie.
|
I don't consider it a zombie movie for the simple fact that the "infected" don't die - to me, a zombie by definition is a walking corpse. Dead. Not only that, but I don't think they really ate the living, they just fucked them up some...yeah, by biting, and turned them...I don't think at any point they stopped to have a meal...although I could be wrong.
I loved 28 days later - if you ask me, it was only not-very-knowledgeable zombie enthusists that ripped it to shreds, whining about "fast zombies" as they did with the Dawn remake. But yeah, they weren't zombies, so they didn't really have the same grounds to go on as those that bitched about the "neo-zombies" in the abovementioned remake. Please keep the suggestions coming people....what are yout top 5 zombie films, and why? |

I understand your point there but I do consider it a different take on zombies. Some people consider Lifeforce a vampire movie of sorts and it gives a whole new spin on an old theme.I kinda feel 28 Days Later was putting a fresh idea into the zombie genre as it hasn't evolved much over the years. |
My top 5:
1-Return of the Living Dead 2-Dawn of the Dead(original) 3-Shaun of the Dead 4-Cemetary Man 5-Night of the Living Dead |

I'm not sure...I'll have a look.
Nope, just the normal edition...but hey, I only really got it for the movie, and there's a 75 minute documentary on it too, so that aint bad... More suggestions please ppl... |
HEY??? WHAT THE?!?
I was looking on ebay to find more zombie films cheap...and, I find Lucio Fulci's "Zombie"...to be honest, I know little about this guy other than his films are meant to be pretty gory? ok, so I read the description: "After a New York harbor patrolman is murdered at the hands of a flesh-hungry ghoul aboard what was believed to be an abandoned yacht, Anne (Tisa Farrow)--the daughter of the ship's missing owner--teams up with a newspaper reporter named Peter West (Ian McCulloch) for a private investigation. With the help of a pair of sightseers, they travel to the secluded Caribbean island of Matul, where Anne's father was last seen conducting medical research. There, they meet his colleague, Dr. Menard (Richard Johnson), who frantically attempts to find a scientific explanation for a phenomenon that has plagued the island; it seems as if the dead refuse to stay dead. The locals believe a voodoo curse is at work as scores of animated corpses rise from their graves to hungrily seek out live flesh. Anne learns her father has died, but before she and the others can return to civilization, they are forced into battle with a plethora of bloodthirsty zombies. Italian maestro Lucio Fulci's most lucrative outing features an abundance of shockingly gruesome sequences filmed in the director's regular close-up style, wasting none of frequent collaborator Giannetto De Rossi's amazing makeup effects. The ominous synthesizer soundtrack by Fabio Frizzi splendidly shrouds the action with simplistic, yet catchy hooks that are sure to continue buzzing in viewer's mind long after the film's spine-chilling ending. Released abroad as a sequel to George A. Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD, produced by Dario Argento in Italy as ZOMBI." That last bit....released abroad as a sequel to Romeros Dawn of the Dead??? How the hell does this work?!? Anyone? Also, there's a lot of old horror movies available on laserdisk, are those the BIG laserdisks or the small ones that can be played on some dvd players? Also, ppl...I still need more suggestions, I KNOW there's a lot more zombie films to talk about, between all of you - we should be able to cover a lot, please...MORE SUGGESTIONS!!! Or, yknow if everyone could just name their personal top 5? Doesn't matter what the country of origin, or how old or new, if it as zombies in it, I wanna know about it... - B Also....look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...360806427&rd=1 ...anyone think it's worth more?:D |

Anyway, definately get the 1990 version of NOTLD and Cemetary Man. They are both awesome movies, I like the 1990's version of NOTLD better than the original. |
laserdiscs are 12" ... there were dvd/laserdisc combos back in the day - hard to find and expensive now. (they both use the same laser technology.
now you know why i dig them so much ... there is still a lot that was released on laser that has yet to be seen on DVD |
Quote:
no .. but dont worry - it wont stay 1cent .. it'll shoot up to 5 - 10$ by the last day. if you see it you'll just get pissed off. |
Actually, I never saw it...even before I heard the bad reviews, that being pretty much all of them, I had seen the trailer myself and I dunno, just decided I could do without ever seeing this film...
Yes Urgeok, there's HEAPS of stuff on laserdisk that is yet to be released on dvd...I know the big ones that you're talking about...they still sell new LD players in some places...but I've also seen laserdisk DISKS that were only the size of cds also, maybe they were just a pirate thing, I dunno.... Thankyou for the suggestions so far, PLEASE keep 'em coming ppl... |
Still going through ebay....
There's a double dvd movie pack called "the zombie double feature". It has the original night of the living dead, which I already own, and also has one called "revenge of the zombies" Nazi zombies?!? Has anyone seen this one? |

Ah, who cares...I don't think they were the commercially available ones anyway.
So, tell me...how exactly was "zombie" related to Romeros Dawn? |
