Favorite Classic Horror Film Monster

What/who is your favorite classic horror film monster. I'm talking about the real classics; Frankensteins monster, the Wolfman, Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, the Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon etc...?

Mine is "The Wolfman." As a kid, I was always spellbound by him. Being normal except when the full moon was in phase, then unleashing horror on the unsuspecting.

The_Return 01-16-2005 01:26 PM

Probably Dracula

Heyyyy, wow! Those are all the monsters done by Universal. You obviously have a lot of respect for them, and that's great taste, IMO.

I always liked 'em all, but Blacky LaGoon was a transcendent level of visual coolness. That was one fine-looking monster. The Creature kicks ass.

ShaunoftheDead 01-16-2005 04:40 PM

This guy is pretty sweet.

massacre man 01-16-2005 05:13 PM

the Wolfman

Gojira 01-16-2005 10:54 PM

Well of the very old movie monsters I will go with Dracula after all he has been around since 1920 when he was in his 1st movie made in Russia. I dont mean Germanys 1922 almost Dracula movie titled Nosferatu with Max Shreck.

phantomstranger 01-17-2005 12:45 PM

1. Dracula
2. Godzilla
3. Frankenstein's Monster
4. Creature from The Black Lagoon
5. King Kong
6. Ghosts

ShankS 01-17-2005 01:49 PM

Wolfman.

Gojira 01-17-2005 07:44 PM

Between Vampire movies and Werewolf movies I will go with Werewolf movies I just like them better.

tom-tom 01-21-2005 12:21 AM

Long live Dracula, the prince of Darkness...

Gojira 01-21-2005 05:04 AM

LOL LOL thats funny tom-tom what you said ( Long live Dracula Prince of darkness) LOL its funny because Dracula is dead. But I know what you mean.

tachii 01-21-2005 09:12 AM

dracula
creature from the black lagoon
the mummy

urgeok 01-21-2005 09:38 AM

the creature from the black lagoon is definately the coolest looking.

i read somewhere that someone once found the costume in the studio garbage and rescued it ..

how could would it have been to have found that ?

ClassicHorror 01-21-2005 11:24 AM

I have to say Cezar (even though he's not a monster) from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, or Nosferatu.

Gojira 01-21-2005 12:37 PM

I think the guy who designed the suit for thecreature from the BlackLagoon was Bud Westmore andJack Kevan the actors/smimmers who played the Creature were Ben Chapman Ricou Browning and Don Megowan. The Creature from the Black Lagoon 1954 Revenge of the Creature 1956 The Creature walks amoung us 1957. Lets not forget that The Creature from the BlackLagoon was Universals 1st horror movie that was filmed in 3D.

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 05:31 AM

Its also cool that it apeared in the right era...the 50's scifi/atomic horror bomb.

Gojira 01-22-2005 06:28 AM

Lets not forget the 1st of the Atomic monster movies The Beast from 20.000 Fathoms in 1953. A movie that is said to be inspired by either Ray Bradbarrys book titled the Foghorn or Willis o Brians 1925 movie The Lost World a movie where a Dinosaur gets lose in london and causes some trouble. Ray Harryhausen who worked on The Beast from 20.000 Fathoms is a movie about a giant Dinosaur who makes its way to NY and attacks ConyIsland. The name of the Dinosaur or the name of the species was the Rhedosaur or Rhedosaurus. Godzilla was made a year later in 1954 along with THEM giant ANT movie.

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 07:48 AM

The Lost Wolrd with brontasorous was pretty good. the 50's was also home of the Phantom movies....The Phantom Planet, Phantom From 10,000 Leagues, Phantom From Space..ect
What I think killed this era was William Castle's House On Haunted Hill (1958), it gave supernatural horror a new fan base.

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 08:16 AM

Besides Myers. Frankenstein has always been my favorite character and always will be. I love Frankenstein!!!!

Nosferatu was scary as hell for me though so He is at a close second.

Gojira 01-22-2005 12:07 PM

I tend to agree with you Nemesis I think Myers or Jason has become todays Frankenstien now lets see how long Jason or Myers will be around. Frankenstien has been around in movies since 1910 yikes!

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 04:04 PM

Jason is nothing he's never apeared in an actual "mention" worth film. Friday The 13th was Ms. Voorhees as the killer, Jason only apeared when he came out of the lake.

Gojira 01-22-2005 04:10 PM

That 1st Jason movie Friday the 13th was a pretty good movie and the best part imo was when Jason pops out of the water. I am pretty sure by the time the 3rd Jason movie was made most guys were going because of the goodlooking girls in the movie the heck with Jason lol.

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 04:17 PM

I
l'll admit the second one isn't too bad but from there on: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Gojira 01-22-2005 04:30 PM

Lets be honest here Classic it wasnt Jason that was bringing in the bucks it was the eye candy in his movies.

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 04:38 PM

Evening Gentlemen.

While Halloweed is my favorite I love all types of horror.

You gentelmen seem to have high standards.

Aslo it seems you both look at the technical aspect of things.

While many horror movies are bad. That is what makes them fun. They are to have a good time, something to do. Not about how bad it was or made only for dollars.

I like Jason, but he was such a Carbon Copy of Myers.

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 04:44 PM

Excuse me in tired lol.

halloweeN*

Gojira 01-22-2005 04:51 PM

You know back when Jason movies were being made some fans told the makers of the movies that they had coppied Michael Myers. The producers of the Jason movies said Yeah we did because we thought Myers was a cool idea so we made our own type of myers. You cant get any more honest than that now can you. The question is today is who has the bigger fanbase Myers or Jason?

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 05:02 PM

Wow now that IS being honest, I like that in the makers :).

Well, It seems for some reason, F 13th was more of an 80's enity and people clung to that. Everytime I hear someone talk about klling they bring up Jason, So I am guessing it would be Jason but I wouldn't know for a fact.

Gojira 01-22-2005 05:08 PM

Well I think the horror genre needs a modern Frankenstien and Jason seems to fit the bill.

because friday was put out by a bigger company and wasn't an independant film and they just kept making them halloween pretty much limits itself to 2 or 3 a decade instead of 9 in 13 years

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 05:16 PM

Jason doesn't deserve the bill :D

Halloweed, lmao.

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 05:30 PM

haha yeah i was tired.

Good point M.Man.

Well I must disagree.

I don;t think Jason fits the bill at all, I mean Jason is alright but They are two totally different people.

He is way more violent, while Franenstein tried to learn life.

Jason is a mindless Killing machine(which he has reason, if i was messed with picked on then fuckin killed id be pissed too) but he just doesn;t nor ever live up to Franky.

The_Return 01-22-2005 05:33 PM

On the quetion of who has a bigger fanbase, Id say Jason at the moment due to FvsJ.

ClassicHorror 01-22-2005 05:33 PM

the Frankenstein monster (not Frankenstein thats the doctor) is not here with us, we don't need a new frank when there has already been one, what we do need is new characters.

Nemesis412 01-22-2005 06:09 PM

I agree with you Classic.

I also(sadly) agree with you Return.
