Night Of The Living Dead - Tom Savini Remake

I've been trying to track this down again over here after seeing the remake of Dawn Of The Dead. When I first watched this I thought it was fucking great so I'd be keen to see it again. Has anyone else seen it recently and liked it?

Sedated_replica 12-19-2004 04:39 PM

I loved the movie, its one of my favorites. Everything in the movie is perfect

urgeok 12-19-2004 04:47 PM

i really liked it too ..

I actually chatted to Tom Savini about it while he was signing the presskit i had from the movie at a horror convention about 10 years ago and he said he wasnt happy with it .. he didnt like the way Barbara turneout to be like a 'sigourney weaver - type tough chick'

I still thought it was great though ..

He directed a Tales from the Darkside episode, a direct to video anthology series called Chill Factor and he has another movie coming out called "The Forest Prime Evil" starring Ken Foree, Kane Hodder and Gunner Hansen among others.

was'nt a lot of glop in the movie considering savini directed. even the dvd was a disapointment because they said it was uncut but all they did was show all the shit they had to cut out in the extras.
i hoped they would put it back into the movie nevernind. No ones mentioned Children of the dead - now theres a kickass movie that rules!

One of the better remakes. It was very entertaining. Good cast and a good retelling of the original plot. I liked it very much.

I always liked it. When i was younger, the box cover used to scare the shit out of me. That fucking dead old lady with the baby doll and cataracts gave me nightmares. I breathe a sigh of relief everytime i have seen barabara put a bullet through her head.

i loved the gross guy in the suit that got broken in half backwards on the lawn ...

Vodstok 12-22-2004 05:37 AM

that one always disturbed me just a little because i thought he looke dlike he might have Down's Syndrome. Of course, he wa sin a business suit. And not like there wouldnt be zombies of EVERYONE. it was just a disturbing visual.

he wasnt retarted .. he had polio as a kid ..

Yeah, surprisingly restrained in the gore dept. considering Savini...

But perhaps all the better for it; the characters are all likeable (or likeably vile - Tom Towles: "Ya buncha yo-yos!") and more explicit ripping and gouging effects may have sent the movie more down the road of Return of the Living Dead by providing some heavy latex relief from the horror and claustrophobia of the beseiged house and hopeless situation they find themselves in.

Good bits at the end too, with some zombies used as worthless target practice - not often even the most reviled of "types" are presented with such utter disdain on film.

Oh god... Cooper is even more irritating in color than he was in black and white. i fucking hate that character, but he makes his end so much more satisfying.

he was effective .. and very real.

Vodstok 12-23-2004 09:44 AM

I swear to god,in the same situation, i would have killed him long before he was ever a problem.

Boot his ass out the front door. "anyone have a problem with that can join him out there."

Being big has it's advantages :D

EXTR3MIST 12-23-2004 09:47 AM

How big?

Vodstok 12-23-2004 10:01 AM

not terribly huge, but big enough that i am often left alone because of it. 6' 2" and about 235lbs. big arms. I look like a freindly guy, but sometimes when i smile i creep people out :D

EXTR3MIST 12-23-2004 10:04 AM

Waist?

Vodstok 12-23-2004 10:08 AM

 Waist? As in pants? 38. up a mere 6 inches from when i was 150lbs. Ten years ago.

newb 12-23-2004 10:31 AM

Inseam?

oops......sorry......

Well said. I thought the scenes where zombies were being strung up and shot at by anything that fires said more about human nature than any movie ever has.
Tom Towles IMO really made that movie. Hating a person so much that you are torn between shooting zombies and Towles really shows how great of an actor he is
