Dimebag Darrell is Dead

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

Fuck him. He always talked about "respect" in his tunes. Maybe he did not give some to the right people. We all go some time. Let this be a lesson to everyone - you might not gain respect unless you can give it to your peers. Don't be so fuckin' hardcore about it. You'll live longer.

the guy was probably - obviously - a freaking nutcase.

they will shoot anyone for their own addled brain reasons.
I highly doubt it had anything to do with respect.

same old story .. too many guns.

Yes...But...By the same token...If a SANE person had walked up on the stage with a gun (which a sane person wouldn't, in the first place), everyone would still be alive...

that has to be the worse arguement i've ever seen hahaha !

meetthecreeper 12-09-2004 05:50 AM

I am not going to get into a whole gun control debate issue, because the issue itself is a dismal failure and does nothing to supress the criminal element.

If the motherfuckers who were running the security at the damn club would have done their job, this may have not had happened.

I have seen Pantera several times, and their shows like most, security is pretty lax.

I was at the first Ozzfest, some asshole thru some M80s into our fucking mosh pit. Someone could have gotten killed.

I lived in California and did security part time for a venue in Long Beach, nobody takes anything seriously its all a big fucking joke. I lost the job for busting somebodies head for punching some kid half his fucking age.

i agree with that ..
not only did the shooter get a gun through but so did the person that shot him.

man i'm afraid to bring a camera to a show in Toronto because you'd lose it immediately to security.

Figures?

You are aware that if you have a gun in your house, it's more then likely going to be used on someone who lives in the home then a intruder?

I don't like guns, but that has nothing to do with me being Canadian.

The odd Canadian does hunt.

Vodstok 12-09-2004 06:07 AM

Let the Hell's Angels take care of security. The only people dying will be the people who mouth off to them.

Just ask the Stones :D

i completely lost you on that one ..

'Figures Canadian' because we dont have the same problems up here ?

meetthecreeper 12-09-2004 06:47 AM

Right, lets not turn this into a 2nd Amendment debate, I dont feel like getting banned today.

Oh wait thats right Canada doesnt have that right.

Enough about that.

The man is dead, it hurts me, and I am pissed off about it. Somebody needs to be held responsible, aside from the trigger man.

42ndStreetFreak 12-09-2004 07:48 AM

If all you can post is rolleyes smilies crass 'da dude shud ave shown respect man' idiocy and bullshit, attention seeking, sarcasm it's best not to post at all.

Anyway, my Wife told me about this today. Shocking news.

Gun toting madness.

So strange to think that delightfully weird beard won't be seen anymore in new interviews and videos.

When we used to dance to Pantera songs and watch their videos we never thought something like this would happen, but of course crap like this does. Everyday. You just don't notice until it involves someone you recognise and know about.

A tragic day indeed. Pantera were an amazingly powerful band and for any one of them to end their days like this, so early, is terrible.

RIP Dimebag.

bwind22 12-09-2004 07:54 AM

Man, my day has sucked from the second I woke up.

I was awakened by a phone call from my dad telling me my aunt had died over night. Then I couldn't fall back to sleep, so I turn on the television and what do I see? One of my favorite guitarists got smoked on stage by some fucktard in Ohio.

Just to shed a bit of light, the person that actually killed the shooter was a cop, so that explains why he had a gun in the club. Security fucked up big time though letting some whacko through with a piece.

Sad, sad, sad... Pantera was fuckin' awesome live! (Never saw Damageplan, but I'm sure they rocked too.)

Well, my day sucks... And it's not even 11:00 in the morning here yet. Guess I'll just have to wonder what's next...

I'm not too familiar with Dime's work but I know I would feel pretty bad if one of my favorite musicians died. Its happened before. Its almost like losing a family member because you may identify with the music so much.

R.I.P.

i remember feeling robbed when brandon lee died ...
knowing he was at the beginning of a certain breakthrough... and then gone ..

Vodstok 12-09-2004 08:39 AM

The A&E biography on him was absolutely heartbreaking. The NEXT FUCKING DAY, brandon was going to get married. I cant imagine how that had to have felt for his fiance.

Not to mention his mother who lost her husband and son way to early.

urgeok 12-09-2004 08:46 AM

its weird how you can feel such a sense of loss when you like one of these public figures that you've never met.

it's more than just the knowledge that their creative output is at an end .. its more personal than that ...

I suprised myself at how it effected me.

Angelakillsluts 12-09-2004 09:10 AM

...

I always loved Pantera, never heard of Damage Plan though. I heard the news last night, very sad. :(

Apparantly it was a crazed Pantera fan. Which is kind of spooky because it was on the same day Lennon was shot and killed by a crazed fan...

I don't give anyone reason to. Too many people want respect, but don't give any themselves. It's a sad reality, but I always show as much respect to some homeless guy as I would the Pope. It's called common courtesy. Apparently the 'golden rule' has been forgotten by a lot of the younger generation. Anyhooo...just read about it on the news. Bad situation. It makes you wonder about security at the venues you go to for shows. Worst part of this tragedy will be the lawyers who profit off of it when the lawsuits roll around.
I just read:
Quote:

The shootings came exactly 24 years after John Lennon was shot to death outside his New York apartment building by a deranged fan.
Yeah. What an 'X-Files' concept there
CK

ShankS 12-09-2004 09:27 AM

never realy knew much about the guy untill now... not into metal....but R.I.P all the same.

but it's clear as day, that the security in some of these venues is shite. Dont they search or have detectors to stop loonies taking guns into places like this??? The nutter obviously had an intention to maim or kill the guy and take down others aswell. I would have thought, when letting the guy in he'd have looked a bit suspicious, trying to conceal a gun.....unless this loonie was good at acting 'normal' infront of the public, just waiting to carry out his business.

Death By Jell-O 12-09-2004 09:40 AM

It must have been a fairly small venue....Security at small clubs is lax....But I have been to numerous concerts where I've had to turn my pockets inside out, get a pat-down and run over with the wand but they were usually big shows......A couple times a buddy of mine had to walk clear back across the parking lot because he forgot he had a small (2") swiss army knife on his keyring.......I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of this treatment at future concerts....
