Eraserhead
I am not really sure if this would qualify for a "horror" movie or not, but my friend let me borrow his dvd copy of it and I am encoding it on my computer so i can burn a copy. Has anybody seen it, he tells me it is pretty fucked up.
|
Its David Lynch, what did you expect.
I kind of liked it though. |
I wish they'd release a mass market edition. The only copy I can find is on Lynch's web site, which is $40.00. The ones on ebay are burned copies.
|
they've got it at Nicheflix
|
I really want to see this movie BAD, but its impossible to find it. I've only heard good things about it. I was thinking about buying it off ebay... has anyone seen it and what do they think?
|
It's a great movie, and the DVD available from David Lynch's site is incredible. It is an amazing experience. It's not horror, really, it's .....Lynch.
|
I tried watching this film last night..... it's um ...well, I dont know.

Best horror movie. It was in the newspaper today, along with This is Spinal Tap and The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
|
Eraserhead is probably in my top ten or twenty favorite movies, whether its horror or not, who knows, but david lynch is one of the greatest directors ever. I cant say enough good stuff about him or Eraserhead.
|
I still have the poster hanging up around here after about 15 years. It's not horror. It's more of a creepy, gritty dream/nightmare. I know there is a special edition DVD out now that I hear is rather pricey. Be warned though - it's nothing like any of the David Lynch films you may have seen (ie 'Wild At Heart', 'Twin Peaks', 'Lost Highway' or 'Blue Velvet'). It's a rather dry movie, few characters, and very little plot. If you like strange films, I'd definitely say go for it then.

I disagree it's not Lynch ....It's Lynch at his most raw..every great Lynch movie owes itself to Eraserhead....
|
well it is officialy my favorite movie, and anybody looking for a copy of this pm me and i can help you out if you are interested in dvdr backup`
|
I love Eraserhead its a truely fucked up movie that makes me feel weird. I like Eraserhead and Blue Velvet the most out of all his movies the rest are basically pretentious weird for weird sake bullshit but yeh as I've said before at least he's no Ron Howard. FUCK RITCHIE CUNNINGHAM AND HIS TOM HANKS MAN LOVE!

I loved eraserhead, it was a film that even though I had no fucking idea what the hell was going on half the time...I quite liked. The semi-disturbing/just plain strange imagery and scenes sure keeps you watching...I wouldn't call it horror either, but, no doubt seeing some of these images might be a little disturbing to some.
As for The Lost Highway, it hmmm....kinda let me down. It was just plain weird, but perhaps the attempted incorporation of some kind of cohesive storyline into all the "weird" was what fucked it for me...who knows?? I have to admit, I DID enjoy and laugh at one scene: "Call your house, I'm there now" "That's fucking crazy, man..." I still wanna check out Mulholland Drive, I've heard like NOTHING but good things about it...yet, don't really have a clue what it's about as yet. I didn't know the Eraserhead dvd was out there ANYWHERE...am I to believe that the only one out there IS worth $40? (Which is like $70 AUD to me), Even so...I would probably grudgingly pay the price... Sam, how much is it on the site you mentioned, the same? Just a personal suggestion for those that have yet to see the film I'm about to mention....if you wanted a KIND OF similar film, that leans more towards horror, with "fucked up" by the bucketload, grab the Japanese (I think) film called Tetsuo: Iron Man Craaaaazy shit. |
I downloaded this a couple days ago...hopefully, Ill have a chance to watch it tonight. Im pumped...:D
|
Didnīt get it. From beginning to end. :(

Not really sure if I liked it or not....it was different.... |
I loved it!
Crazy, crazy, crazy...beyond crazy. |

it was done so perfectly, it captured pure insanity, with all the noise and all.
|
So has anyone bought the new DVD release of this? I'm thinking of picking this up- how is it?
P.S. I haven't even seen it yet... |

..overrated...

Sucks about the DeepDiscount...the American site has unbeatable prices- and always free shipping. |
you wont see free shipping offered in canada ..
the postal rates are a crime up here. when i was selling on ebay - it was actually cheaper for me to send a CD to california than right across the street from my house - no shit. |
ps ..
i've always loved eraserhead ... discovered this one years and years ago ... i even have the soundtrack on vinyl :D |
I used to have the soundtrack on vinyl, but it became part of someone else's collection...I remember someone coming over and hearing it playing in the other room and saying, "What is that noise?????" and I explained I was listening to a record. They looked totally confused, trying to imagine that anyone would put sounds like that on a record...
When I want some David Lynch, I usually go straight to the Eraserhead...his other films are okay, I liked Blue Velvet and a couple of others, but for the most part they are dilutions of Eraserhead's main ingredient. |

yeah i LOVE wild at heart ...
eraserhead, wild at heart, blue velvet.. i still liked lost highway but it didnt have the punch these other films have ... at some point he just went from weird - to forced weird. |

Wild at Heart is perhaps his most influential work because it was the blue print of the 90s reinvention of the road movie. You can see its mark left in The Doom Generation (definatley pushed to extremes in subject matter but you can see the influence) and comparing it to Natural Born Killers is just a given especially if you read the original script. I think somehow along the way he forgot the subtlety of his weird spin on charaterisation and cinematography that made these three films so good. Shit he's still more interesting than 99.9% of the asshole hacks working in mainstream Hollywood cinema. Mr Lynch will more than likely kick our asses with an amazing flick sooner or later cause I'm sure he's got a bunch of tricks up his sleeve. Hopefully he hasn't joined the graveyard of director's that used to be amazing but became infected with the auteur complex and bludgeon their work with self indulgence. |
One suspects Lynch might have been having us on at that stage in his career, in an Octopus's Garden type of way.
|
i forgot ...
unlike the rest of the world ... i actually enjoyed Dune as well :) |

Heck, I liked Dune too! I had to see it eight times to start liking it, but after that it was smooth sailing.
