Neat shit to notice
Ever notice something in a game, movie or TV show that was fiendishly clever, but you feel like you are the only one who noticed it?
I have tons. In the new Dawn of the Dead, When we meet Glen, we are told he "isnt a preist, he just plays the organ." Later, we find out Glen is gay. Tell me that wasnt an on-purpose in-joke.:) In 28 Days Later, the environmentalists break into the lab to free the Chimps from their "torture". One of them kills the first escaped chimp with bolt cutters while trying to save the woman being attacked by it. Irony at it's best :D In an episode of the Simpsons called "Brother from another planet" (my personal favorite episode EVER), Bart tries to psychicly tell Homer "Pick up Bart", homer having forgotten to pick himup after a soccer game. Milhouse begins saying "Trab pu kcip. Trab pu Kcip!" and wites it on the wall in lipstick. We see in the mirror it is "Pick Up Bart" backwards, and obvious reference to "redrum" in the Shining. In a level called "Going Postal" in the Duke Nukem PLutonium pack, there is a locker room. on the wall, directly across froma mirror, is the phrase "Trab pu kcip." I think there is nothing more brilliant than a hidden reference to a hidden reference :D There is also a later level set in a fast food restauraunt. If you go to the drive through radio and hit the use button, you hear Butthead say "Ummm.. We're like, closed, or something" Anyone else know any good ones? i will have PLENTY more to come. |
I do that shit so many times, I can't pinpoint them. I'm an uber-genius.
Bring on the boobies! |

For Geeks Onwy
At the end of "The Matrix," the humans use the EMP to knock out the squiddies that are attacking the ship. There is a wide shot showing the EMP waves emanating from the ship and towards the virtual "camera" (this is a CG shot, so the camera is virtual). As the EMP waves hit the squiddies, they get knocked out--and when the waves finally reach the "camera," the screen goes black. I interpret this to mean that the virtual camera "filming" this scene is a video camera (and not a film camera, which could conceivably be wholly mechanical, i.e., non-electrical). This seems to be a hip "techno-joke" making a nod at the future of cinema being digital video.
It's very funny--and very GEEKY! |
this isnt exactly what the thread implies but ...
i've seen the boom mike in about 1000 movies and i'll go .. hey did you see that ???!!! and the person i'm with never sees it... i can never figure how they missed it.. |
Urge...
That's NOT the boom mike you've been seeing. It's the NOSE of the Dark Muppet as he leans down to survey his potential victims. I tell you it's true!!!!!! Yaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Run, scream, freak out! |

Nobody else seemed to know why I thought Kel's character in Mystery Men suggesting the name Super Dudes was so funny, so I guess that counts

I was too busy hating that movie to look though. :p |
Well, "The Matrix" isn't a "GOOD" movie; it's a "COOL" movie.
There's a difference. |
in the remake of the dawn of the dead. just after the woman was attacked by her bf. the scene where she is driving down the highway??? well it goes in to a over head shot of her driving down as long stretch of highway. well you see the helicopter that is flying above her????? well that the helicopter from the original dawn of the dead. uh huh.

In the movie Anaconda, we see Sarone get crushed in the grasp of the giant anaconda, and on the close up on his face we see a bone dislocated in his jaw or cheek. Then he gets swallowed up. Later he gets spit back up and he winks at that girl. OK, so maybe that was pretty noticeable, but I just wanted to bring it up. I haven’t seen Anaconda 2, but I hope he somehow comes back. He was a good actor. Good character.
The movie Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn was suppose to be a remake of The Evil Dead, but Bruce called it the, quote, unquote, “the mother of all sequels.” And not a remake. At the end Ash is sent back in time where he kills a flying demon with his shotgun. Then the soldiers bow down before him, believing he is the one destined to fall from the sky and save them from the evil. But in Army of Darkness we see Ash locked up and walking in capture through a desert. |
some of the old westerns have power lines in them. my friends say that they are telegraph lines, and some of them are susposed to be, but sometimes you can see the transformers.
|
apparently in Lord of the Rings, a car in the far distance reflecting the light of the sun could be seen in a shot .. but it was removed for the DVD.
I have a pretty good 4 disc screener - i'll look for it one day. this one is a fact though .. not an urban myth .. jackson commented on it publicly. |
The new dawn of the dead has both Peter and Roger from the original in cameos, as well as Tom Savini.
Also, notice both movies have a large black cop and a small blonde woman as lead characters, and a douchebag with the name "Steve" (or stephen). Dog soldiers is full of references, i have named them before, but i will name them again if someone asks. Some movies have interesting themes. The original Star wars movies were based loosely on WW2. The Evil Empire is based on the Nazis. Both armies called their soldiers "Stormtroopers" Aliens was actually based on a Vietnam War theme. Jim Cameron said it himself: A small group of soldiers sent far away from home to fight against a technologically inferior foe, and get their asses handed to them. |

I read that the concept of 'the force' was from another movie i have .. a japanese anime film called 'the Lensman' or something like that where there are a race of people who share a collective conciousness throught these lenses on their hands. |
carrie: ending scens with sue snell walking up to the burnt house, you can see a car going backwards in the background
the ring: first time woman enters house we briefly see a photo of the cabin on the wall which tells us the movie will end there, and then the more obvious hints |

aha - forshadowing .. we could have a whole thread on that alone ... sometimes its too in your face - something is mentioned one two many times or is featured a little too prominantly but when its done well its fun to revisit the film and see where everything fits in.. |
Other backwards scenes:
Return of the Jedi. In one scene i jabba's hut (haha), if you watch closely, there is a pan down from Jabba to Salacious crumb. The smoke from his hookah is flowing back into it. In Goldeneye, when the false lake drains towrds the end of the movie, they played footage of it filling up, backwards. |
And one of my favorites is in "Jurassic Park" -- that scene where the raptor pushes the kitchen door open and walks in -- a puppeteer's arm is clearly seen holding the end of the tail up for several frames. Quick so see it, before Spielberg CGs the thing out! It's so cool! They left it in! It makes me happy!

13 Gosts, Tony Shalub clocks matt lillard. When they show the two of them laying on the floor, you can see the face of a guy with a headset on in a reflection right beside them.
|
Um.....um.....in the "Night of the Living Dead" remake, you can see something reflected in the glass in one scene...I think it's the camera and some lights...been a while since I saw it...
|
It was pretty quick, so I dunno if it was a kool hidden thing, something I didnt clue in to, or a reflection of the crew...
In "The Eye". Just before she sees the other girl when she looks in the mirror, they are on a subway. Theres a quick image in the window behind her. A deformed face of some sort, I think. Itz really quick, I had to rewind to make sure I actually saw it. |
A funny thing in Star Wars: A New Hope, is when C3PO and R2 are hiding out in that "control room" while Luke and Han are looking for the Princess. A group of stormtroopers "storm" (heh) into the room and one of the last ones hits his head on the doorjam. It's pretty funny and if you turn the volume up you can hear it crack into his mic.
On a dorky note, another reason this is funny is because he's obviously taller than the rest of his group, but the stormtroopers are all supposed to be clones, and thus the same height. |

Im right proud of myself that I caught this one....
Watched Halloween 2 today [Awesome, btw]. When the nurse goes down to get the guy to check the phone wires, Demetia is playing on TV. The scene switches to the hospital cafeteria, with the amblence guys talking to a nurse. You can hear music coming from the TV, and itz obviously the theme for Night of the Living dead, which was playing earlier that night, when Mike took the old lady's knife. Im happy now:D |
Troma Logo
Anyone notice what happens when the Troma logo blows up at the beginning of every dvd? One fragment is shaped like an upside down cross. No one ever seems to notice it...
