Movies that deserve sequels

Can't think of any now but Beetlejuice.

Hate_Breeder 11-25-2004 10:34 PM

I think they shouldve made a Waynes World 3 before Dana Carvey and Mike Myers got too old. Hmmm they might be able to still pull it off..CHA!

absolutely any movie can deserve a sequel .. except for the films that ended with no where left to go. (the complete story was told - wrapped up)
The problem with most sequels up to now is that more often than not (esp. with horror) the origional director is not at the helm.
Many of them were made without the anticipation of a sequal .. but someone later - usually a hack - saw a way to make money off video rentals so they whore off some piece of trash knowing it will get rented because of the name. And the hack is usually someone who's just getting their start in the business.
Or someone who has proven that they can get a film made without going over the tiny budget. (a very valuable skill in hollywood)

Sequals have also suffered when its the same director because the director loses the vision - or hunger - or interest by the time they had to do the sequal. Or worse yet they tried to lazily recreate the exact working formula of the 1st movie.

There have been great sequals ...if they were all great we'd be eagerly anticipating sequals for every film. Unfortunately they are not the norm and the hourde of bad ones have given sequels their bad name.

Almost any movie deserves a sequel ... but every sequel deserves a great cast and crew.

And lets face it .. most movies - if made well - leave us wondering what happened to the characters we grew interested in ..
In a lot of cases its fun to find out.

But doing a sequal for the sake of making the bling bling ... and writing a pathetic treatment just to drag those characters out on screen with nothing or very little to say or do ... (as is more often than not the case) .. well thats pointless.

You just perfectly described the sequels to Leprecaun and Amityville......Among others...

most of them .. unfortunately ..

with the exception of the Evil Deads, the Romero Deads, and a selected few others ....

Some are done out of 'tradition' - to keep the fans happy .. but even those usually suck.

lets face it, after the first Fri 13 and most of the other slasher sequels ..they are technically bad films .. we just like them because we want more...

ShankS 11-26-2004 06:15 AM

films that have deserving sequals that I've seen are Alien, Romeros stuff and Evil Dead... a few non horro aswell but i wont go into them.

films that I'd like to se a decent sequal to would be The Thing done by Carpenter and Dog Soldiers which is on its way, ther would be more but these are the ones I'd like to see the most.

The STE 11-26-2004 06:57 AM

I wouldn't say no to a Versus sequel
Cube could always use another sequel

massacre man 11-26-2004 07:01 AM

Madman

MichaelMyers 11-26-2004 08:50 AM

Shrieker.

Rotting Eye 11-26-2004 08:57 AM

how about movies that deserved better sequels than they got?

many more movies some to mind that way :P heh

Death By Jell-O 11-26-2004 10:51 AM

They should make a sequel to Gleaming The Cube.......

ShankS 11-26-2004 01:03 PM

i'd like to see a showgirls sequal.

The_Return 11-26-2004 01:11 PM

I hear Screech is looking for work ...

ShankS 11-26-2004 01:43 PM

as long as Elizabeth Berkley is girating her snatch.

Jackie Brown 11-26-2004 01:52 PM

Ok so this isn't a sequel, but how about a remake of The Birds? Or even Psycho, this time with some style though, not like that horrible Gus VanSant disaster.

george 11-26-2004 01:52 PM

the full monty

urgeok 11-26-2004 02:12 PM

How about a sequel to The Titanic ?

Death By Jell-O 11-26-2004 02:21 PM

Oh hell yes! Only this time, cast Celine Dion in place of Kate Winslet, and Rick Astley in place of Leo and I think you'd have a winner!

urgeok 11-26-2004 02:30 PM

i guess in the sequel it would have to somehow float back up .. then sink again .. giving leo a few more minutes to draw some more t & a... maybe get a little full frontal this time.

FreddyC.Krueger 11-26-2004 02:48 PM

Just for a mental note I ment movies that DON'T have sequels but deserve some. Not movies with sequels that need more.

I have to disagree with every movie deserving sequels. Some movies can really suck and end up with sequels.

Oh, and another movie is The First Power. Decent movie, IMO.

Speaking of the Titanic, when I went to the movies to see it there was like a group of girls up in front crying when the started to sink. "No don't sink!" I was like "what the fuck do you expect? Oh wow, captain, the ship is magical repairing itself and we're saved!"
What does this have to do with anything? Don't know, just thought it was funny.

Demonic Faces 11-26-2004 02:53 PM

they shud make a sequal for deep blue sea

Agreed. Best shark movie since JAWS.

Final Destination and Final Destination 2 were both good, IMO...

urgeok 11-26-2004 03:33 PM

a lot of people like the first final destination ..
i thought it started nicely then failed to deliver the goods.. played it safe ..was aimed at the kiddies ...

where Final Destination 2 took off with a life of its own .. mucho gusto ! a timely throwback to oldschool horror.

To each his own but i personally cant see #1 holding a candle to #2

bloodygurl02 11-26-2004 06:51 PM

Tis is true. Personally, I'm surprised they don't already have like 4 of them out by now. I would like a sequel, just to see some of my favorite old-school arcard heros back at it in the movie-bizz.

The_Return 11-27-2004 08:43 AM

I think there should be a Jeeper Creepers 3, except more of a prequel than a sequel.....

There could be 2 different ways that they could do it. Either go along ways back to the origins of the creeper, Salva said in a interview that he thinks the Creeper was a man at one point in time.

Or, they could set it 5 feeding before the 1st JC, in 1886. I love movies set in that basic time period, and I think the Creeper would do a damn good job in it. Or they could shorten the mythology a bit, and combine the 2 ideas.....

I agree completely. I believe Jeepers Creepers was a great movie. A terrific new madman. Original and cool. A prequel would be awesome. Show us all how the Creeper came the be and such. Like the Nightmare prequel.

Kemal 11-27-2004 01:11 PM

A prequel to Jeepers Creepers - that would be pretty cool. That time period and location would set it in the wild west, and I love westerns. By the way was Jeepers Creeprs 2 any good? I never saw it.

Me, I've always wanted to see a sequel to Lifeforce set in the future where we find the vampire home planet ... and then nuke it to hell, of course.

Demonic Faces 11-27-2004 08:41 PM

oh, and they shud make one for valentine, now that wud b awesome
