The Thing

The Thing has got to be one of my all time favorite sci-fi movies with the alien series in a close second. What makes this movie so great is it's feel of inclosed paranoia and wonderful make up effects by Rob boton(spelling:confused: ) and of course John Carpenter and Kurt Russel. Some say the movie is long and boring but I find the paceing to be dead on. The alien orginisim it's self is very complex in which I like because each cell is a living part and you don't know who is an alien which makes for great suspense. I for one am glad they are not going to make a sequel because they would just use cgi, so I'm happy they made a game instead which by the way is very fun yet hard and is 10X better then Resident evil. I give The Thing a 4 out of 4. I would like to hear some of your opinions about the movie:)

It's Bottin. He's an F/X god.

The Thing is a classic. Too bad Sci-fi is supposed to remake it as a 6 hour mini.

THE THING

Very cool to see other THING fans on here. This one is quite possibly my favorite film of all time. I *never* get sick of watching it. Terrifying stuff . . . .

I thought 'The Thing' was great! The effects were way ahead of its time. Kurt Russell did an amazing job, as usual. It's also cool that Keith David (from movies like 'They Live' & Pitch Black') was in this one too.

the thing...an amazing movie, i just hate the norwegians in it...couldnt they have put finns in it so us vikings didnt understand the whole plot the first 4 mins?
the special fx are still great if you ask me by any standard.
its just a movie i can watch over and over again cause of the feeling, total paranoia and yet another movie that apeals to your mind.

Killer Clown#1 11-13-2003 04:56 PM

Good thing you bought the dvd after, it kicks ass a 4 star dvd in my book:)

FangoFan 11-17-2003 08:26 PM

Bottin is a wizard in this movie, the make-up effects are top-notch. Hell the F/X rival anything that I've seen before.

The Thing....a fucking classic:D

Suspiria 666 08-26-2006 04:53 AM

One of the best

alkytrio666 08-26-2006 08:13 AM

I've actually never met a person who's seen this and didn't like it. It's just so damn original, and the atmosphere is top-notch, creating a feeling of isolation very close to space.

makemebad 08-26-2006 09:20 AM

if you say you love horror movies and claim this one sucks

you don't know horror

The Thing (1982) is the best remake ever.A science fiction-horror fans dream come true.

The_Return 08-26-2006 01:45 PM

This thread is ancient!

...but that doesnt mean The Thing isnt one of the greatest horror films ever.

Definitely the best remake ever made! This movie still holds up and just as creepy. One of the best horror movies ever made, hands down, with out a doubt.

Burning in Hell 08-29-2006 09:14 AM

One of my best also. This movie exemplifies to perfection how Carpenter was a master at creating atmosphere and playing with isolation...

urgeok 08-29-2006 09:46 AM

the strenght in The Thing is the excellent casting, well used crazy special creature effects, and a fantastic film score..

Vodstok 08-29-2006 10:04 AM

WTF ?

you have been cheating yourself out of one of the best movies in 2 genres ..

it should be your next purchase (dont bother to rent it - just buy it)

Vodstok 08-29-2006 10:10 AM

Ive wanted to see it. i love the "proteus" monster concept. its gotta be better than phantoms...

plus, ANYTHING has to bebetter than the man-plant with thorns on his knuckles.. it was even bad for the time....

alkytrio666 08-29-2006 01:48 PM

Vod. What the fuck are you still doing here? Go watch The Thing! I am shocked!

Bipolar Express 08-29-2006 02:48 PM

Yeah, it's a favorite of mine.
Carpenter is a master of suspense.

Soloman Kane 08-30-2006 09:42 AM

Sheer Classic

I love this film & the ending is too cool for words. Way Way ahead of its time.

Zero 08-30-2006 10:28 AM

sad that it was just mis-timed. it came out only a few months after ET and the general mood of the country was not receptive to a nihilistic splatter fest. carpenter says this film basically ended his major studio career. . . sad
