The Stand

Ok i am reading Sk's the stand:complete and uncut and i was wondering if it is any good and if it is better than the original the stand or if the added stuff just messed it up or what? so far i am only on chapter nine but it seems pretty good and i am just wondering what do you all think????

jedicow 11-24-2004 04:48 PM

i dont know. the only version i have read is the uncut version.

that being said...it is an AWESOME book.

tom-tom 11-25-2004 02:10 AM

The Stand is an awesome book! The uncut version is just S.K's completed manuscript before it was edited!
Has anyone seen The Stand the movie?

Horrorfiend 11-25-2004 02:29 AM

The Stand (uncut) has more character depth than the original, so therefore is a better told story.

The movie sucks balls. Horrible translation.

PurplePoison89 11-25-2004 08:49 PM

Thanx for your input every body!!!!!

MichaelMyers 11-26-2004 09:29 AM

Uncut version gives a much clearer picture IMO.

i am now on chapter like 28 but that doesnt say much considering theres like 80 chapters but it is getting better and better the only thing i dont like is how i got extremely sick ith the flu just recently it was really weird also i dont like how it has like 5 billion characters i can figure out who the main character is?????

jedicow 12-01-2004 06:12 PM

stu redman is the main character, IMO.

The Stand is my favorite SK book of all, the movie wasn't all that bad, I mean I liked it personally but it did leave a lot of shit out that was in the book.

PurplePoison89 12-26-2004 12:24 PM

ok well i got to like halfway and got sidetracked by Pet Semetary but i am about to start reading it again!

allmykids 12-26-2004 09:05 PM

I did watch the whole movie--I think I liked reading Dicken's "A Tale Of Two Cities" more--UGH.

Lady Discordia 01-22-2005 06:35 AM

Yes, the movie translation really is that bad. Horrible, in fact. This story never should have been adapted for the screen, and particularly not for network TV. They left out SOOOO much (anyone else remember Rita Blakemoor? How about Frannie's mom?), and changed things that easily could have been left alone. It was also the most horribly cast movie I've seen in a long time (Molly Ringwald as Frannie? Please give me a freaking break! Where is the "puking my guts out" smily??). I'm not sure which was worse, this or the idiotic TV adaptation of "It" --- neither one was worth a damn, as far as I'm concerned.

Read the book, and you'll discover just how bad the movie sucked.

P.S. to Urgeok -- Swan Song was written by Robert McCammon. You were close! :)

Spallalala 01-22-2005 07:56 PM

I dunno if I could go through a whole book. Its just not me. And if I did read it it would take months literally. But since I like the movie so much it means that I would definately love the book.

And that suck bigtime. Too many movies that do come out miss too much that was in the book.

its unfortunate but it cant be helped ...
A clever director (who is hopefully a fan of the book - but not always) will know how to balance the job of extracting the essentials without dissapointing the hard core fans of the book.

Every book would be a 20 hour long movie if they were to be filmed verbatim.

The fillmakers task it to pull the book apart and see what characters/sequences can be left out without hurting the integrity of the story.

a lot of things that flow well on paper do not look good on screen either.

I think Dune was a prime example where it failed because it couldnt please anyway. When you take on a huge cult fan favorite - you are setting yourself up for a no win situation.

Fans of the book will be pissed because so much has been left out... non fans wont understand it.

Personally I enjoyed Dune because i could understand why certain things had to be left out - and i'm a fan of the book.

Look at Lord of the Rings ... never has there been such devotion to capturing as much as possible of the book .. and the hard core fans still werent happy.

its a dicey position for a filmmaker to put him/herself into.

blackknight 06-27-2005 02:14 PM

The uncut version was ok. If you read the original version you really didnt miss out on much of the main storyline.

People bitch about the movie but what did they expect it was ABC that made the movie.
