Rob Zombie Movies
Hey guys,
I really like Rod Zombie style movies. I can't wait for his new movie, the devil's rejects. I love the mix of a satirical perspective of rednecks and murder blood and all that. They're almost like TCM to the extreme of gore and hilarity. Anyway I was putting up this thread to see if any of you guys new any other directors who have this kind of style and/or movies that are like Rob's. Email me or post a thread with any info, please, it would be much appreciated. |
quite a few, given that his style is just borrowed bits of other directors' styles

well, you said the primary one yourself, TCM
|
Take every cult film from the 70's and mix into one and you basically have House of 1000 Corpses.

just like Tarantino...although considering that Rob just started making full films, it will be interesting if he can create a style that is his own. |
Personally, '1000 Corpses' was boring to me. All the jump cuts and digital effects are so overused at this point I find it nauseating. If I wanted that garbage in my horror I'd get McG to direct. It was mildly humorous in spots, and not at all disturbing. The story is a mish mash of 70's horror movies, which is fine, as long as you tell the story in your own way. Which he doesn't. And somebody brings up Tarantino....boy, is that funny. There's one major difference...Tarantinos movies are BETTER than any movie he emulates. He makes great characters and writes some of the best dialogue in all of Hollywood. What does Zombie's movie improve upon? Nothing...it's frankly inferior to a lot of the films he 'borrows' from.
|
well, we'll just have to see if Rob can improve his next film, btw not everyone has a flawless track record...I found a good portion of Reservoir Dogs to be boring, but if I judged all of Tarantino's movies on that one film, I probably wouldn't have seen any of the others, which I liked.

I think Pulp Fiction is the weakest .. Kill Bill is the real Pulp Fiction. |
Revolver what part of Reservoir Dogs did you find boring? pls
|
Tarrentino’s movies are most certainly NOT better than the majority of movies he “borrows” from! Although I do like his movies and think his use of other movies can be fun! I to find “Reservoir dogs" pretty boring and overrated, plus at that time he had not really admitted to his “Borrowing ways” and so that movie is almost completely stolen!
On to Rob Zombie! I think “HOTC” was a good debut, not the best, but I fun homage to 70’s and early 80’s style horror, his new film “Devils Rejects”, looks to be shaping up into a very good sequel! Basically if you want to see his influences just start renting 70’s and 80’s horror, a good place to start is with TCSM (original), The Hill have eye’s and a good dose of Italian stuff! Lady Snowblood Shogun Assasin Shinjuku Triad Society |
Like Feral said .. a good first outing.
I thought it was a bit flawed .. but no more than a lot of other works by more seasoned directors. It managed to capture the insanity of TCM that the remake couldnt. It was definately a labour of love ... that much was obvious. |

HOTC was not at all disturbing. The family in TCM was far more sinister. This family just comes of as a more annoying version. I am not writing Zombie off as a writer/Director because of it. But I'd be interested to see what he would do with somebody elses story, as a director. I just don't think his strength is writing/storytelling. |

But what other film has Tarantino stolen from for Reservoir Dogs as well as City on Fire?
And is this film better than Reservoir Dogs? |
There are certainly more influences than just "City on fire", but that was the main one! It also pulls from Django as well as a host of heist movies!
I was not talking about just reservoir I was talking about him in general! I even said I like his movies! I just certainly wouldn’t say his movies are better than all the influences! I.e. Lady Snowblood, Lone wolf and cub, Rainy Dog, the killer, One armed Swordsman, Shinjuku Triad Society … etc, etc, etc …. And yes I personally do like City on fire more … In fact I even like Score more, which itself took from Reservoir dogs!!! |
I think the ear-scene link to Django is rather overexaggerated - i.e. in both films there are ears cut off...
City on Fire is undesputedly the main influence on Dogs, though the former lacks the sleekness and cracking dialogue that made this heist story such a roaring critical success in the hands of Tarantino. I think as a whole, one could say QT's end products outshine the likes of Shogun Assassin, They Call Her One Eye, Lady Snowblood and City on Fire - due in no small part to his plundering of the underground and bringing it topside with his own blend of more digestible wit and cool. |
I guess it’s a matter of taste, like I said I do enjoy Tarrantino's movies, I just personally don’t believe his movies are better than ALL the influences! I couldn’t even name ALL the influences at the end of the day Tarrantino's film knowledge outshines most peoples!

Zombie should have been shot for that movie. :D Just my personal opinion. I hated it. I didn't like the bad guys. Didn't really like the so called good guys. By the end I was wishing they all would die. Won't be seeing the new one. And I see 85% of every horror movie made. But he still makes great music. Well someone had to say something bad.:p
|
Oh yeah, House of 1000 Corpses...
Very underwhelming - after promises of "the return of hardcore horror" etc., we get just another TCM/Hills-derived movie about a crazy family set in the deep South. Still, much better than most other horror films in the last 5 years. |

He's movie was rip-off of every good horror movie!
He's wife is the WORST actress of all time. I hate Rob zombie's music and movies. He's a stupid poser. |
I thought House of 1000 Corpses was an awesome movie. I was kinda dissapointed the first time I watched it but found it a lot better with repeated veiwings. Of course he's borrowed bits from other horror movies but really what director doesn't? I also think Reservoir Dogs is Tarantino's best film. I used to be a big fan but now I get annoyed because of the overblown dialogue it's like sitting thru a fucking lecture on film. Reservoir Dogs had a awesome energy to it and it flowed alot more interestingly that a lot of his other films, maybe he should stick to 90mins or less instead of rambling on and on..... but that said at least he ain't no Ron Howard/Robert Zemekis and his films don't have Tom Hanks in them.

I was disappointed when I saw this movie. It just seemed to be a cross between Natural Born Killers and ever backwoods killer movie ever made
