Who will take thier place?????
Hi new member here. I have been thinking which is usually not a good thing. Back in the last Century, there were huge stars such as Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Both Lon Chaney Sr. & Jr., Bela Lugosi, and to some extent Peter Lorre, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee. When you heard thier names you immediately thought of Horror movies. And the voices, I mean Vincent Price and Boris Karloff could recite Nursery Rhymes and make them seem creepy.
But in trying to think of who the "new Stars" are who might fill the old Horror Master’s shoes I got nothing. There are no movie stars that come close to these giants in Horror. The closest I could come was maybe Anthony Hopkins in his Hannibal Lector role and Robert Englund for his Freddy Kruger role but these are only two characters. The Greats played many characters in many movies and even TV. Anyone have any thoughts on who the new horror stars might be? |
Didn't you post this in another part of the forum?
|
yes
|
Yes mainly because it kind of fits in with both categories... and I wasn't sure if everyone read both areas...
|
yeah, best not to double up ... it usually generates a beating in these here parts ...
|
Ok, lesson learned... thanks...

christopher walken-all evil roles in general

I have to say I agree with you. There is no actor these days that is as good as the "old guys". By far, Christopher Lee was my favorite - I LOVE all those old Hammer movies. Udo Kier was in another favorite movie - Mark of the Devil. Roman Polanski in Fearless Vampire Killers. Just my opinion.

Jamie Lee Curtis

I also like SAM NEIL............Event Horizon,The omen and in the mouth of madness.

Sam Neil is great - he was also in possession ...
But his body of work is so broad that he isnt thought of as a 'horror actor' Jamie Lee Curtis was in a few when she started (halloweens, terror train) but that fizzled out and she became mainstream as well. We're grasping at straws here ... There just isnt the same climate in film to ever have adult movie stars being known mainly for horror. Robert Eglund is Freddy .. he's also been in a number of other horrors as a character actor ... but he really cant hold a candle to Peter Cushing, Christpher Lee, Vincent Price or the others mentioned in skill or stature .. Those names will be synonymous with horror long after all of these other people are forgotten ... (maybe not by true horror fans - but certainly as regular household names) |

still haven't gotten around to seeing that one yet, any other suggestions |
'The Fog' is up for a re-make as we speak. Hollywood can't even bother to look back in their catalog past the 1970's now for horror films to re-make. Double lazy on their part.

hollywood is SHIT

nahhh not all of it .. if you hunt around there are rewards. and again i have to stress ... People are shit. Hollywood couldnt afford to make these films if there was no profit in it. Whenever someone takes a chance and makes a different kind of film... the studio takes it big time ... John Q Public/the lowest common denominator/whatever you want to call them : they are the reason bad movies are made, bad music is played/bad books are written ... because simple people with simple needs support these things. You think Brittney Spears would be a household name if only her friends and family bought her CDs, went to her shows ? your anger is justified, but it's aimed in the wrong direction ... |

your words have reason, but even when a person who knows what they are doing takes a chance and presents something of substance; most often they get shit all over by the general masses or as i prefer to call them:the brain damaged retards |
I think there are a few things at work here:
First: So many of the horror characters from the recent years have been zombies or masked killers, so they haven't really become "the faces of horror. Second: A lot of the great horror films have been indie films, not Hollywood movies or theatre released foriegn films. Thirdly: Women have taken the dominant role in being the recognized names in horror: Debbie Rochon Linnea Quigley Brinke Stevens etc If you look to indie films and include women in the mix there are some definite names that just scream horror (forgive the pun) |
