is there a sequel(s) that are better/good as the original

is there such a thing as a better sequel e.g

I prefer Friday the 13th 6 to the original, whether its better or not is a different question.

I think Mad Max 2 was better than the first one though.

Jeepers creeper 2 possibly

and whoever said Halloween H20 was as good as the original was watching a different film than I was.

Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 - was there a difference?

urgeok 11-08-2004 06:14 AM

Final Destination 2 was about 500 X better than the 1st one.

Re Evil Dead ... 2 had a bigger budget and was a great film but it wasnt better than one ...

Hate_Breeder 11-08-2004 06:32 AM

I thought Terminator 2 was better than the original. Everybody else usually agrees with that one...

Kemal 11-08-2004 06:40 AM

Hell no, Terminator 2 was not better than the original. Only the special effects were better. The 1984 Terminator was darker and more violent. Arnold was a thousand times better playing the silent, empty killer of the first movie than the touchy-feelie father figure he became in part 2.

newb 11-08-2004 06:44 AM

The Godfather part two was a tad better than part one.

The Exorcist 3 was hella better than part two but not as good as part one.

I agree with Kemal on The Terminator.

newb 11-08-2004 07:12 AM

Also...Aliens was better IMO than Alien.

Demon Seed 11-08-2004 07:26 AM

Evil Dead II is better than the first one, and Army Of Darkness is better than the first 2:cool:

Creepshow II is better than Creepshow

"Thanks for the ride, lady" :D

urgeok 11-08-2004 07:33 AM

funny - i never liked Godfather 2 as much as 1 ...
But I also agree - in a way - with the Terminator 1 being better.

It was darker and more intense ..
But 2 had the most incredible nuclear explosion footage and the morphing effects were top notch .. as far as to set the bar for a new breed of FX.

So it depends what turns your crank more.

Personally - it depends on my mood ..

I thought that Nightmare On Elmstreet 3 (Dream Warriors) was every bit as good as Nightmare On Elm Street

I also thought that Halloween 3 (Season Of the Witch) was as good as (if not a little better than) Halloween...But, sorta as a different movie altogether, rather than a sequel :)

Don't think so...

The only cases I can think of at the moment are :

Horror:
- Friday the 13th 3, 6 and 7
- Aliens
- Puppet Master 2
- Blair Witch Project 2
- Children of the Corn : Revelation (yup)
- Creepshow 2
- Critters 2
- Prom Night 2&3
- Return of the Living Dead III (IMO, it equals or barely beats the original)
- Dawn of the Dead

Non Horror:
- Back to the Future II (not by far tough)
- Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

It's hard to say with some of those...

I think Dawn of the Dead is far more kickass than NIght of the Living Dead, but then you have to take in to account the era it was made and what they had to work with. For it's time, Night was AWESOME! It spawned a genre and set the standard for zombie movies. That being said, I still personally like Dawn better.

The Terminator one is tricky too, because of the special FX gap between the original and T2. T2 was visually awesome, but I got to go with the original based on the originality of the storyline.

I thought Return of the Living Dead 2 was better/funnier than Return of the Living Dead.

Evil Dead 2 was better than Evil Dead, but it was just the same movie with a bigger budget. (P.S. AOD is good, but not better than Evil Dead.)

Aliens is definately better than Alien.

That's all for now. I'm going to go see Saw.

tic 11-08-2004 09:21 AM

bride of frankenstein was better than frankenstein
frankenstein meets the wolfman better than wolfman

urgeok 11-08-2004 09:25 AM

toy story 2 was better than toy story :)

I don't take into account stuff when I watch a horror movie. If it gets old, then it gets old. You can't live in the past. Tell me, do you guys still light your whole house/appartment with candles?

It's an average movie with a very particular theme song.

You really should see it...Just consider it a different movie, independent of the Halloween Series (As I think the producers must have:rolleyes: )...That should help...lol

Oh...And I really thought that Final destination 2 was every bit as good as the first one

ok i will. i just could never figure out why theyed make a totally unrelated movie.

urgeok 11-08-2004 10:22 AM

i thought the 1st one was a kiddie film .. didnt hold my interest at all ..

but number two - it was old school .. the crash was amazing and the kills were inventive .. reminded me of the omen and films of that ilk

She's right it is a good flick but i don't think you can compare it as better or worse then the original because other then the title their completely unrelated...........................and yes when you watch it the theme willl stick in your head

+ it has more of a halloween vibe than the other Halloween movies. I don't want to spoil anything but kids in this movie aren't just some of those annoying "untouchable" pricks.

Ginger<3 11-08-2004 10:46 AM

that's it ........... i'm going to blockbuster!

Extremely true

@Ginger...We'll be here when you get back...lol

The_Return 11-08-2004 11:14 AM

Hmmm... I dunno if I can think of any that are better....

But X- Men 2 and Jeepers Creepers 2 were definatly equal, If not better....

Hannibal was about equal to Silence of the Lambs, IMO. Some parts were better

Steve_Hutchison 11-08-2004 11:16 AM

Jeepers Creepers 2 ??

tic 11-08-2004 11:17 AM

would agree that halloween 3 is ok, perhaps should have been brought out as a separate film, rather than posing as a sequel to an already successful horror flick. They did after all bring Michael back.

I could say the same for Jason X - ie im sure if a different character was in it, it would have been ok. a quick edit of names etc would be all it took; perhaps "slashed in space" for the title, who knows.

I read somewhere that the reason Jason X came out was that producers where planning on Freddy v Jason at the time and needed a filler.

I seem to remember The hills have eyes 2, being pretty good.

MichaelMyers 11-08-2004 11:21 AM

I thought Ghostbusters II was as good as the original.

urgeok 11-08-2004 11:22 AM

spiderman 2 was better than 1

jay o2 waster 11-08-2004 11:24 AM

toxic avenger 4

I don't.

bwind22 11-08-2004 01:09 PM

Jeepers Creepers 2 was not better than Jeepers Creepers. At least the first half and the very ending of the first one were original. JC2 is pure Hollywood. (And that's not a good thing.)

I did however, like X-Men 2 better than X-Men. They did Wolverine's character much better in it.

Halloween 3 is cool, but it should have just been called Season of the Witch and had nothing to do with the franchise. Originally they were going to have Michael Myers be/stay dead after the second one, so they took the series in a different direction. Fans got angry that there was no Michael Myers, so they brought him back for #4. I don't think 3 is better than 1 though. For the budget they were one, Halloween and Halloween 2 are works of art!

urgeok 11-08-2004 01:17 PM

i thought Jeepers Creepers 2 was more even .

I really liked the 1st one until the point where the psychic got involved and the whole police station sequence ..and then it fell on its face

#2 was unique in that it was the one movie where the monsters ass got repeatedly kicked .. I guess i personally thought it was funny ..
